That boat should be in a museum some day - leaks and all. Thanks for another great video

That's a lot of water being pumped out. Yikes !!
@@Tracker7266 Relax; John is a professional lol
I know the logistics are challenging (weather. Travel etc...) but...I was wondering if you have considered taking a lucky subscriber fishing for the day. I'd personally love to watch a series of you taking a kid. Veteran. Health care worker or any deserving person out for a day on the water to share your knowledge and some of their life story. Just my thoughts.
Excellent idea.
Yeah count me in ill be just behind you watching north or south shore let me know when u going.
This video is reminiscent of your flounder videos that I started watching back in 2014 where it seemed you caught one after another, hand over fist. Great video John!
The old haunts.... Love it. You always make it look easy Mr. Skinner.
Looks like they actually swam into the sound this year! Awesome trip - Thanks for the dr juice test
Went out to a Jersey inlet Saturday in the kayak. Had 2 limits by 8am. Slayin' em this year!
Great Product for the lawn!!!! Awesome sponsor.
Leak - when you can keep up with the incoming with the drain pump
Flooding - when you can’t!
That seemed like quite a bit a bit of bilge water! Maybe it was rainwater?

John: I always look forward to and watching any new video you post. What a nice trip you had on your old fishing spots. I currently own two of your Dark Matter Rods and look forward to purchasing one of your lightweight jigging rods when they become available.
Thanks for your support!
I love the matter-of-fact "Yeah, the boat leaks." Classic.
Well a nice video, shows the importance of not leaving fish to find fish and sticking with what works.
The boat for its leaks, etc. is still keeping you in fish.
Glad the north shore is producing well. Moriches bay still little cold with lots of shorts. Past Saturday was perfect conditions to take the kayak out, our group managed 1 keeper fluke and 1 bluefish. Hopefully bay warms up quickly but looking promising.
Thanks for that report.
Just impressive - so many keepers! No shortage this season. For a moment I though the bilge pump might be detrimental, but it seems it had no effect.
Seems you have an interesting new toy for panoramic views :-)
Panoramic views are nice but using it to find fish is ideal. Used to see what's happening out of vision, like birds working a blitz or finding a school of bunker...definitely some cool boat/fishing shots too
@@mikec9241 Yep, good point. The waters in my area are not very transparent, and I didn't think of that. Maybe a polarized filter helps too.
Looks like the buck tail worked great interesting experimenting with the salt strong jigs
Great video John and thank u for all the good tips I have learn from u , 🦈🐠🐟
Got one keeper today using the drift sock (don't have a trolling motor). It would be interesting to see if you switched the gulp to the high hook and the salt strong/scent to the lower. For me, the lower jig normally does better.
another very entertaining fishing vid John, thanks for sharing. I got my free dr. juice yesterday THANKS! and again please tell some of those released keepers to head to kettlebottom.
Can’t wait to see if the drone helps with recon!!
Thanks for the video
i dont have a boat or nice gear but i have the exact same blue bucket . lol
Nice piece of property you got there John
Also wish you put the plastic/scent on the bucktail. That would have been the true test. The bucktail is the GOAT!
In NC season is closed, can only keep flounder in September this year
Thanks for the bucktail tip when using gulp. Fishaholic massages the juice on the plastic bait, if your squeamish wear gloves.
Good show. I guess the Gulp trumped the Salt Strong on this trip.
Awesome fishing 🎣 👌 congrats.
The scented bait could be drawing the fish in like a chum slick..
MUCH FUN
Man, with that much water coming out of the bilge I really hope that the pump doesnt fail! It seems to be a pretty serious leak haha
Just a hint , that not a leak . Starcraft sucks for dain plug placement because of the center transom support , the bottom is rotted out , guaranteed. I alumaloyed the bottom of mine and drilled a 2nd drain , alumaloyed a pipe ( piece of extendable boat hook ) on center and very bottom , 2 drains now .oh and notched the bottom of the pipe inside for max drainage . Great vid as usual , i hope my fishing turns outas good as yours , going out of ri/ct
The leak is up front somewhere. I need to get the floor up.
John, about the advisement can they tell th moisture in your soil or the drainage time after a heavy rain, these two things are very important. Everybody's yard drains different. Thank you.
Best flunking spots in LI? Off the surf
Yeah , I hate to say it cause its expensive but Gulp is king when it comes to soft plastics , I use it every time I go out and it works in all conditions. I do not know what Berkley did but those things are damn potent.
It's cost effective in this situation with the 4-inch grubs.
Man skinner give the boat a complete over haul
The problem is I have no downtime anymore. As soon as the season ends I fish Florida until the Northern season starts again. Not that I miss winter.
Beautiful fish John, that spot lock feature is pretty dang handy ain't it?
The trolling motor is a total game changer. I seem to use it for most of every trip.
Awesome!
John, thants alot of water for that size boat. Especially since its only been in the water a few hours. Can't you leave it with a welder for the winter and let them bead the seams?
I need to get the floor up.
Regarding leaks, they get bigger not smaller. What about the adage, "Safety first"! Your loyal subscribers don't want to lose you!
John, why are you trimming the hair off the bucktails. If the hair impedes the gulp movement why wouldn't you have the made with shorter hair lengths?
Because trimming is only beneficial for short trailers. If I was using a strip, like in some of my bass videos, I would never trim.
Hi John. The fluking has been horrible until 2 weeks ago in Western LI Sound near Port Chester. This time last year I caught twice as many fluke and twice as many keepers. The stripers here have been the best in years and the bait I saw last year is not around. Thanks for the dark gulp tip because it made a difference but they didn't hit it, they are hitting my sand eel spro teaser with a red mullet, as usual. I got a few mantis shrimp in them but I haven't seen any squid yet. You? Anything in the bellies of yours? Great day.
Our fish are on sandeels.
Hey John another great video. Any chance do you could explain your Technique with the Bucktail and teaser. Are you bouncing it on the bottom are you letting it hit the bottom and slowly retrieving Etc
leaks!? you got a screen door in the bottom of that boat!!
Do you find that you're having better luck using a grub or swimming mullet on that free floating hook? I've been using a gulp shrimp down here in FL, based on your older videos and have had some good luck, but may switch it up if you've noticed a significant difference! Thanks for all the videos! I've learned so much!
I prefer the grub to the mullet.
Do you think it was more the bucktail than the bait? Maybe try the reverse next time… salt strong on the bucktail and gulp above?
No. The video shows only about a third of the fish I caught this trip, and the teaser had a slight edge overall.
Hey John, I went out on a friends boat last week. I lost a few keeper flounder at the side of the boat. Why? they were holding onto the tail of the grub and let go when they got to the surface. I couldn't hook them. Any suggestions on how to avoid this?
Dont reel up so fast. They have been biting slow by me as well. I find if they don't rip the gulp off you have 3 shots at them.
Without coordinate’s maybe an idea where in the Peconics !
I never said peconics.
Johnny boy - trust me - way too far a run….
Awesome video! What kind of boat is that? I'm looking into getting my first "bay boat" but don't know the first thing about them.

Fishing and lawn care sponsor. What am I missing? Gulp should be the sponsor.
Agreed. Yet I recently spent $350 on Gulp.
I use cheap plastics with pro cure and sometimes no scent at all and out fish gulp almost every time out. This morning I hit the surf and the fluke wouldn't even touch the gulp
What kind of plastics ?
@@averytupper5038 lots of zoom stuff. Any knock off walmart cheap stuff. All about presentation. Scent matters but it if don't look good they ain't eating it
@@usausa8839 please elaborate more..regarding presentation..which scent do you use...and how do you hook your Zooms?
@@arisdelis1 I always use a bucktail. Lead head whatever jig you got. And scent wise I use pro cure flounder pounder all season. Shrimp scent towards the end of the season and menhaden (bunker) in the summer. It's all worth it. The scent gets pricey but with the price of plastics is all still cheaper then gulp. Lasts longer then gulp as well
@@usausa8839 ok and do you use the Teaser as well?? I bought loads of gulp and only sometimes it works...which types of zooms do you use??
John how is that slim wave casting rod
That's a good rod for fishing an ounce or less.
I was wondering if anyone has noticed a difference between the traditional grub style gulp and the swimming mullet. I usually use the grub and have had limited luck wondering if anyone else noticed a difference
I don't even buy swimming mullets since the 4-inch grubs came out. The grubs have been more durable for me.
Thanks thats exactly what I was looking for
theres an ole' saying. you can always tell how good a fisherman a person is by how bad his lawn looks
John, what pound test braid do you use on the bait caster reel you were using on the white rod?

@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks John.
Was wondering why no power handle on this trip??
Not needed in this shallow and light setting.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Gotcha. So used to seeing you with other handle but understood.
I surf cast for fluke from back bays, inlets and ocean beaches in the daylight (mornings). Are overcast days better for Fluking from the beach? Does a bright sunny morning turn off the Fluke bite? I have caught a few Fluke at night but is Fluking at night considered less productive than daylight fishing from the beach? I don't have enough experience yet to see any difference?
Fluke is one of the few fish that I prefer a sunny day for. Night fishing for fluke is not a great idea, although a few will be caught, especially around stationary lights.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thank you
Maybe I missed it but what is the reason for fishing that location? Any structure?
A sand shoal that attracts sandeels.
Bay or sound?
What excactly fish finder do you have?
Humminbird Helix 10 inch with side scan.
Very smart with that spot lock to not lose ground. You continue to impress me with how much of a thinker you are. The still leaking boat showering your fluke on the way up had me laughing, very entertaining John. Great video as always
Hey good job using the 6-ounce jig instead of the 3-way in the race with Halk.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks!
I'm to busy fishing, need a spray to pimp the lawn to keep the wife off my Ass! Good stuff!!!
John quick question. If I send you a picture of my PB can you give me an guess of it's size? I feel like you of all people could guess......it's a pic of me holding it I'm 6 foot 1 230 xxl waders I'm soooo pissed I had no tape or scale
That's just too hard to do. Too many variables.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing yea I hear you man I'm thinking it was atleast 30 pounds. It was well over 40 inches but it was very fat and heavy to pickup so maybe closer to 40. What do you think average length of a 40 pound fish is?
From my experience 46 inches is the minimum length of a 40# striper. Your results may vary.
Is that still the sound?
yes
Somebody paint Mr. Johns boat for him, please. 😉
How deep were you fishing and what was the water temp?
21, 65
John is that actually vegetarian growing in your deck of the boat?
Advertising the Sunday lawn Product. Grows grass everywhere !
John, thanks for the video. How often do you set your trolling motor's drift using the GPS/chart plotter? Or do you usually just control it with only the remote around your neck? I ask because I am in the market for one and am not sure how important it is to get the brand that communicates with my GPS/chart plotter. Thanks!
I always use the remot. My friend uses his plotter touch screen on his Humminbird very effectively.
What made you use that rod over your dark matter?
I have it and love it btw 👍👍
This is a lighter application where I typically use an ounce or less. A lighter version of the Dark Matter is on the way.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing
Thank you for the insight.
Isn’t a 1oz bucktail a little heavy for fluking? Or were you using it cause the current was strong??
No depends on drift speed and depth. You want to stay vertical and as light as possible some conditions you can drop 4-5oz jig down
@@sirfishalot6992 what if I were to retrieve from shore?
I use 3/4-1-ounce from shore.
John in your spare time you should throw 6 people Fluke trips and charge...Not too much, eh $200.00 per head I'd go. Great way to pull in extra besides your sponsors and these videos.
First!!!
Hi John! What kind of hook are you using for your teaser?
