  • Humming is a simple tool, to help your nervous system shift from sympathetic (crisis mode) activation to parasympathetic (rest & digest mode). Try it for yourself along with some nose-breathing or pair it with the Mudra hand technique from our previous video. See how you feel and share this with someone you know who could use it! sterlingstruct...

    I have always used humming automatically and unawares since I was a child. It calms me.

    It’s more of a groaning or moaning like in the Bible and you don’t know what to pray for but the spirit knows.

    This funny in that I’ve always hummed when nervous or stressed. In fact I have gotten into a habit of it I guess. My husband is always telling me to stop.

    I had the thought to hum today to help me feel
    Better. I googled and this came up. Hmmmm interesting. I guess I intuitively knew to hum. Pretty cool.

    Thank you so much for sharing this tip. It worked instantly to calm the overactive fight-flight mode my body has been in for months (activated my parasympathetic system I guess). Wow

    I have found that a technique that helps elocution is humming and was instructed as "ho-hummmmm" .. to this day I find the "ho" part of it gets the hum going when there is a fair bit of tension or anxiety :) U have a great sense of humour!

    Thank you very much for telling us about this useful tool! Is humming on one note the same as humming your favourite tune in a low pitch? The advantage of the latter is that you can breathe!

    I have no pain or discomfort, but my humming sounds gritty. Is it because of my age? Too vain to say 😂🤣😅 Anyway, if I consistently hum, I'll bet it will smooth out? 🙄🤔 yes?

    Thanks for the vid! For how long and/or how often during the day should you practice this in order to gain the benefits? I.e. one min, five minutes, longer? Once/day, twice...? Thanks again!

    • @SterlingStructuralTherapy

      If your having a hard time nose breathing, which is sometimes also a sign of sympathetic activation, you may have a hard time with humming try to keep the nose breathing on the breath and out breath … keep the breath relax, don’t aim for deep breathing, that should help

    I know you want to help people, but would be great if you were to try and not mix spiritual stuff with physical therapy (this humming stuff ties into self-hypnosis, mantra, and oriental mystical stuff)...

      I could barely hear the music - my, sensitive ears, so sorry.

    • @SterlingStructuralTherapy
      @SterlingStructuralTherapy  2 роки тому +6

      Respectfully, This humming stuff ties to the Vagus nerve and the nervous system there is no reference to spirituality here except referring to the way a Buddhist monk would humm, but not in order to onboard you or anyone else to Buddhism, simply as a reference so that people understand a low pitch is what works best for the nervous system. Again, respectfully, We find it strange that anyone would think there was any spiritual bend to this video.

    • @quickpstuts412
      @quickpstuts412 2 роки тому

      It's not spiritual, it's scientific. It literally stimulates a nerve. All you're doing is massaging a nerve. How is that mystical????

    • @John-ek5bq
      @John-ek5bq 2 роки тому +1

      @@quickpstuts412 I was referring to the humming stuff, and not the massage part...
      If you do some research you can find out how people who are in the New Age religion, Hindu, Yoga, shamanism, and all these related stuff are doing this sort of "humming" in order to invoke spirits...
      Obviously the lady in this video is trying to help people, and does not mention anything spiritual, but this is how usually these things are working.
      Same with yoga: it's marketed as a stretch and exercise "therapy", but if you really dig into it it's actually a religion with certain poses and praying gestures that are honouring the fallen angels...it's a big deception!
      I hope this helps, and my intention was not to offend anyone, sorry if it was interpreted that way! All the best! Thank you!
