    Hi, thanks for all the helpful advice on the channel. My beloved dog Astrid has suffered from partially and fully detached retina in both eyes. The veterinary ophthalmologist gave her prednisone and she had a full recovery of her eyesight, when she was almost blind before, even the scarring disappeared which was great. However there was a recurrence after two months retinal detachment reoccurred, but after another three weeks of prednisone her eyesight appears to be returning to normal.
    The rationale for the prednisone was twofold: a) to reduce inflammation and b) to treat what is suspected to be the underlying cause, an autoimmune disorder. The problem is the pretty bad side effects of the prednisone, which for Astrid is manic behaviour that's out of character (obsession with food to frantic degree), excessive and constant thirst and diarrhea.
    Astrid is now on a break from prednisone, as prescribed by the ophthalmologist to give her body a break from the drug and its side effects. My question is, are there any natural remedies that I can give her that will address inflammation and autoimmune disorder in a natural way without all these side effects? I'm thinking especially when she's on a break from the prednisone, although if I could avoid it altogether would be preferrable, it has some pretty scary and extensive side effects, despite the fact it has undeniably helped Astrid.

      @DGP888 3 роки тому +1

      Hi it has been 2 years from your comment about your Dog Astrid fully detached retina in both eyes … My dog has been diagnosed with the exact same autoimmune disorder and they gave him the exact treatment prednisone.. and tears drops .. It has been 1 month of treatment he hasn’t improved that much but definitely it’s much better than before his diagnosis.. HOW is your dog doing after 2 years ??? Did you find any holistic treatment that worked???

    • @involutionOcean
      @involutionOcean 3 роки тому +3

      @@DGP888 Yes I did. I took her permanently off the prednisone shortly after the above comment - it's effective but nasty stuff over time. I give her 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric in her food every day. She has that with no side effects - you could never do that with prednisone. Her eyesight is perfect and she's never had an issue since - we were told it was recurrent and so far it hasn't been.
      She's a mid size dog so bear in mind if your dog is smaller, reduce the dosage. Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory that's been used in the east for centuries. A modern addition to the remedy is the inclusion of piperine aka pepper fruit - this is important because it hugely accelerates absorption into the body. You can get Turmeric capsules with piperine.
      Some advice on dosage here:
      www.greatpetcare.com/wellness/turmeric-for-dogs-benefits-and-uses/
      The dosage is about halfway down the page. You don't have to buy their products; you can do this yourself, although it's more convenient to buy a ready-made solution.
      The best thing to do is build up the dosage, so you can evaluate if your pup's tummy can handle turmeric - some dogs can't - and also if he's ever had kidney stones, turmeric is not advised. But for my part, Astrid is happy and healthy and her eyesight and general health is fully restored. I should add that I got surgery in 2013 and had nerve damage which conventional NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs ) pain killers could not address but Turmeric with piperine did - with none of the side effects of NSAIDs.

      @@involutionOcean wow thank you very much for the update and valuable information. I’m going to do the exact thing because my dog has been taking Prednisone for a couple of weeks and yesterday I took him to a follow up check up and the doctor prescribed now 3 different eye drops. My dog now can see a little more during the day, but at night he can’t see anything. Once again thank you 🙏🏼 and God bless you and your dog. I’m very glad that she’s doing great and recover her eyesight

    Dr. Jones my shar-pit was bitten five times on the 9th by a western diamondback. Can you do a video on emergency care for snake bites? I live in the desert. This year the snakes have been particularly bad. I, of course, panicked! What should I be doing for her at this point? Post care and emergency snake care kits I can keep at home. I read several remedies like black cohosh and bloodwort. Onion and honey. If you could do an informational video that'd be fantastic!

    Dr, my three year old dog wakes up at night panting, in the high temperatures I thought this was normal, he ate and play and drank normally, now it is about 20degrees Celsius at night,and the air conditioning is on full blast and he doesn't calm very much, even with ice pack against is femoral artery. Vet said there is nothing wrong with his heart. We lived in ireland for the height of the summer and he was fine, and now we are back in Budapest and he does not stop panting its like he can't get enough oxygen. Is it possible the poor air quality here affects him? Or stress? Your videos are very helpful to us scared dog mothers ❤

    Good Morning Dr. Jones, you helped a great deal with my dogs "hot spots" with your tea and aspirin, and I use all the time when needed. Scruffy (my Maltese) now has an upper right outside eyelid red and a little swollen with a small amount of discharge. I wash it with warm water and soft cloth, and I put a tiny bit of Nystatin on the tip of a Q-tip and apply small thin film on top outer portion of eyelid, then I thought "oh, maybe not good, better ask Dr. Brown". So I am here asking. I went through all your videos to see if you have addressed an eye infection problem, and only saw one eye video, this one, but it's not about an infection or how to treat. Would much appreciate it if you see this and could offer some feedback. Thank You Dr. Brown, Debbie and Scruffy

    The Vet gave my French bulldog human eye drops due to some slight film, without an exam: Neomycin & Polymyxin B Sulfates & Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Suspension, USP, is this normal? Plus he gave her a deworming solution without testing her first. She didn't even have worms! She is ready to deliver next weekend Sept 29, 2018. I'm a little concerned to use this eye medication after reading the enclosed pamphlet. Also not sure if I should have allowed him to deworm her & so late into her pregnancy. This pregnancy is a first for her & me. I prefer feeding her organics, but I can't find a Veterinarian such as yourself close enough to me for other natural remedies! Love your channel!
