"I think I'm getting to the point where I no longer understand what's happening." Nice for some. I'm just starting to get to the point where I do. That was completely mental, and so full of enthusiasm. Great work.
Beads is SO much more than granular synthesis! It is a core part of my Plaits, Marbles, Tides, Beads (4ms pod cased) "Music Easel". Never get's old even after many years of use.
YES! Love this. I just started exploring BEADS in this manner and am shouting "YES!" along with you in this video. I'm also inspired to mix my Data Bender into the fun. Thank you so much for sharing this. Great fun to listen to. Cheers!
This has been very inspirational and also very informative! I’ve been on the fence about getting Data Bender (it would free my Ableton from the burden of running various instances of Buffler Shuffler), and I kinda thought maybe my Beads could get into that territory… but I had no idea of how to get there. So thanks a lot, really: I’m gonna put off getting Data Bender for a while, until I’m really sure that Beads can’t get the job done :) Keep up the good work!!
You make the most glorious music, with some of my favorite modules. So glad I stumbled into you a few days ago. Subscribed and learning so much from you. Thank you for taking the time to share with us!!
What a great and inspirational video! Thanks for the time you’ve taken walking through it. I’ve always found Beads to be my most inspirational and enjoyable module and yet I didn’t think I had truly scratched the surface of what it can do…turns out I was right. Keep up the good work, I appreciate and enjoy your content!
I really enjoy your videos, man :-) Got a nifty case myself and some of the modules you own, so it's super interesting to see what you achieve with yours! especially the beads stuff, super inspiring
Thank you so much for this! I love this video so much and really needed it! So cool how you explain thoroughly while enjoying the process/flow so much and putting out bangers! On a few of your videos I asked how well Beads can glitch and if it could stand up to Data Bender and this settles it then, Beads will be my first module :) Especially loved the parts around 12:00, 15:00 and 21:00. For modulation the LFO + S&H from my Neutron together with the attenurandomizers from Beads should suffice for the beginning but also Pam's is pretty high on the list for future modules :D Keep up the great work and awesome jams man!
really well done! very cool to see it shine in a less linear fashion. i sold off my beads pretty quickly after finding the canvass a bit too broad and got a data bender. it was seriously good with melodic stuff, but i always felt like i was underusing it - delay, reverb, granular, wavetable synth, sampler and any odd combo in between. i'm sure i'll try it again some day, maybe if someone develops a more broken out interface.
Great stuff! As I understand it you run your master through the chain. But do you employ any strategies to avoid glitching some parts of your mix (e.g. your beats or your bass)?
I don’t actually! I do some EQ in post and that’s about it. I have been looking at the golden master by endorphins. It has some nice EQ and multi-band compression options.
This is awesome. How is beads pitch not glitching / pitching your melody line? Are drums and the bass sound going through different patches? Love your videos
Damn. This was the best Beads video I’ve seen.. totally inspiring so I know what I’ll be spending my Sunday morning doing. It all makes sense except that I don’t really understand what the Seed modulation is doing? Could you explain please? It looks like it’s latched but it’s being modulated very occasionally- so what is that actually doing? Thanks for your totally inspirational videos!
Cheers man! I think when you patch a gate into Seeds and take it off of latch mode (by pressing the seed button) then it will only play a seed when it receives a gate. If you have it in latched mode (long press on the seed button until the light fades in and out) then the seeds are controlled by the density knob. Hope that helps!
From my limited experience of beads and db I would say the are quite different and lead to different places. Db is not really a granular synth engine but it is remarkable for what it does. There is a you tube video “the aesthetics of failure” that gives both a historical and current view of what bd does and was intended for (not that you have to use it that way)😂 also, if you have an iPad it is difficult to find a granular module that does as much as borderlands granular. Running BorderLands and Spacecraft at the same time gives you a remarkable journey into granular for a fraction of the cost of Arbhar, Beads, Melotus, etc. etc. DB on the other hand is closer to morphogene with its slicing etc.
@@TheUnperson I bought my first iPad years ago specifically for Borderlands granular. Since then the whole environment has just gotten more and more sophisticated with great effects apps from Eventide, Nembrini, Fab Filter, etc etc. consider it an OP-1 on steroids. With Animoog Z , Model 15 by Moog, and other great synths at your finger tips. Almost all of the Mutable Instruments modules have been ported to iOS and sound identical. Why buy plaits for instance, when for $20 you can have all of these modules. I pick and choose what modules by asking what can’t I easily do on my iPad. A hybrid system makes sense in a lot of ways.
Beads cant do portamento (it's snapshot "beads" of sound), whereas databender does... Anyway i was wondering if you swapped databender out for beads because databender was getting samey/limited?
I've personally been avoiding getting a data bender because I feel like it always has the same sound every time I hear it. I had that same problem with clouds, it got too samey and I sold it. I find beads doesn't always sound as good, and needs more interesting sequencing or modulation but it kinda has more range
@@goblinpiper yeah same. I can do everything databender does by sequencing normal vcas and oscillators... However it would take A LOT of sequencing... Way more than the space DB would take up. And I do like what DB does. It's just that it is always totally random so it always sounds the same.. If it could be constrained more it would be more versatile. Like, I dont want to always have a chance of reversed audio to pop up when im changing playback speed... Beads to me tho.. Im not convinced. It does everything and nothing. I wish databender just did away with the distortion and audio dropouts/glitch and just concentrated on tape effects/slice/repeat which could be microcontrolled.
I feel that if you use DB tastefully then it's not too samey or limited - especially the pitch shift mode. I am looking forward to the firmware update tho!
That's always been my problem with certain modules is the intentional murkiness or with certain brands, the attempt to be cute in naming and design of things. I prefer the Data Bender.

Nice for some. I'm just starting to get to the point where I do.

haha thank you!!
Ha!... I thought it was just me, but as I see, it is a rather common situation. Well, that's a relief!

Thank you! Beads and data bender is the funnest combo!
yes, this is pure quality. keep up the good work!
the built in attenu-randomizers are SO great too! I'd love to see more modules do things like that in the future
Agreed! Mutable always had the coolest innovations :)
Ooof, this is so gorgeous. Right here is the kinda music I wanna make with my Eurorack.
Glad you enjoyed it!!

Cheers man! Somehow I had never heard of buffer shuffler before. I will check it out!!
Those videos are the best, looking back it's truly inspiring, thanks !!!
Thanks!! ☺️
Love the flow of this. You always keep it rolling with great sounding shit from that op1. One of the best Beads uses I’ve seen! Hats off man
cheers man!!
Superb! Grooves and glitch...nice.
Great video man! Definitely inspired to get Beads involved more in my patches after watching this. More fun to be had with modulation for sure!
Cheers man! Yea Beads is a kinda odd module that rewards modulation and exploration.

This has got to be one your best explorations! Such fun 🤟
I forgot about this one! Glad you liked it ☺️

I most definitely do agree that that sounds pretty dope. ;-) bravo, sir!!

@1:32 ... LOL !! ❤ Great Vid Thanks!
I concur. It sounds pretty dope.
Drums into beads?! Lol dope man, sounds rad

Ha, you go me air pinching the beats too lol!
Haha glad to hear it!!

I reckon you'll have a lot of fun with Beads + Neutron. That's the beauty of semi-modular synths - they interact so perfectly with modular :D
nice! glad i have both :)
Brilliant! Really inspiring! :)
Cheers man!!

very nice
That jam was rad af.
Thank you!! ☺️
Bruh, sickest video yet. So fire
cheers man!!
Thanks for the video!. What's the stereo delay?

It looks like there's a power module there but isn't the nifty case powered already? Not enough juice?
Probably. Or just noisy? I had a nifty case for a minute and had some issues with a few of my modules not liking the power.
I had a lot of issues with the internal power, and because I got it second-hand it wasn't covered by any warranty unfortunately!
Your divisions in Pam’s must be throwing those random notes around. Super run through. Loving this so called tune too.🍺
Oh yea Pam is totally random! Cheers!
bro I'm gonna call you "Beads man" you're an expert at this. +1
I've had worse nicknames, Cheers man!
This is awesome. How is beads pitch not glitching / pitching your melody line? Are drums and the bass sound going through different patches? Love your videos
Thank you! I think it’s pretty much all going through beads, but with the mix at halfway the glitches seem to pick up the transients more maybe?
damn this is a really interesting way to use beads. Great video homie
cheeers! :)
these sounds are just SO nice. inspiring and very helpful 👏
Thanks you! 😊
Great video! Is the mix of all signals going into beads or just a part of it? And why are you using an external power module with the case?
Just brilliant!
incredible - bravo!!!
I was just feeding Data Bender with Supercell (mega clouds clone) this afternoon.. Awesome stuff.
Haven't heard of Supercell before - will be checking it out!
Videos where someone is chuckling to themselves cos they've made wicked transformer noises are my favourite kind of videos 👍
haha! I imagine when the original transformer noise was made for the first time ever the creator had a good ol' chuckle.
This is great, at times I’m getting a very American Horror Story intro music vibe from this. Gonna have to give this approach a whirl now!
cheers man! 😊
‘Beady beady’ like buck rogers universe!
my thoughts exactly!
Absolute fire!

Sounds great. Gate to Freeze has great results +1.
cheers!!
haven't you got data bender in the fx chain here too? in which case, hard to tell what's db and what's beads?
It is in the FX chain but I'm not using it, except at the time later on in the video when I hit the freeze button :)
@@TheUnperson ah, got you. if you really had to keep only one, which would it be?
i like the wide stereo glitches of data bender. sounds like beads doesn't quite deliver on that.
yea, agreed. The stereo-ness is one of my fav things about DB.
Dude that beat was so good you could have just kept that going for another 20 minutes of exploration and I would have listened.
haha cheers!! :D
Best hands in the market
haha thanks!!
NIce content, I'm here to stay
thank you! :)
I love my data bender, im sure beads is awesome too
Beads is awesome, but DB is my secret fav.
@@TheUnperson I freaking love my DB I think about it all day pretty much, its so sick!

you do know there's a glitch/stutter mode in beads by setting the delay to full and having freeze on?
For some reason I wasn't getting great results that way. I might need to revisit it :)

? but you can just look up the manual online
I prefer the weird names
I quite like the mutable names and branding - tho sometimes the name seems cooler than the module actually is lol
sick 🖤
