My goodness.. I was at this and had either no idea or forgot it was being filmed.. I seem to recall being stood (or sat) just behind the small stage area.. So might even be on this somewhere.. It was the last time I saw them and in truth I thought it was a fairly shambolic performance.. My two main memories are that after the concert there was literally dozens of copies of their first EP just littering the floor and I picked up a few that hadn't been trodden on.. Wish I still had them all now but I gave most of them away over the next year so.. Also remember seeing Marc on the way out at about 2am and he asked me what I thought of the show.. After previous gigs i'd always told him I thought they'd been brilliant and he usually shrugged and said they'd been dreadful.. This time I said they'd been awful and he just shrieked back "Well everyone else said it's the best gig we've ever done!" Think I only ever spoke to him once more about 4 months later upstairs at the Warehouse Club when he told me some schoolgirls had followed him home in Leeds and set fire to his dustbin.. Those were the days....
"dozens of copies of their first EP just littering the floor" I bought one of these 30 years later for nearly 100 pound sterling. 😂 Thank you for your cool story!
@@SevenOfNineteen Precisely why I wish i'd held on to them! I've still got the copy I bought when it first came out (September 1980) probably one of my favourite records of that year.. But i'd played it to death by then and can't understand why I didn't keep one of those pristine copies.. Though can't recall if they still had the postcard insert with those copies.. Perhaps not..

Thanks for this upload! I use to be a regular to the Amnesia Club, just opposite the train station, I was on 'day release' at the then Kitson College, as an apprentice printer, it was a day out in Leeds (being from Doncaster this was brilliant) hanging about with the 'Casuals' from the same course as me, it was a day off from work as we were concerned, great time and great bands playing at the college too. Not much money to speak of but such a great to time, music and clothes etc. Great memories. Marc Almond could be seen around Leeds with kids following him around. All seems a million miles away. Thanks again for the upload. Just remembered! X Clothes! I really Fancied the Punkette who worked there, saw her a year later or so at the Bat Cave, Feeling lost now.
God iv just remembered that club u mentioned opposite the train station and the queens arms pu as it was back then. It was a stairwell not long ago and now it’s completely shut down I also remember a club in the merrion centre called the phono or le phonographique god it seems like a lifetime ago
Great upload. Good to see the lads in action back in the day. I've often heard of the legendary chaos that surrounded the tours but didn't realise just how intimate they were. Bonkers and joyful! Thanks for sharing.
this video is from their 2018 DVD, a fragment was here, on UA-cam, for some time before your upload, but recently the channel got shut down due to copyrights, so beware.
New to me, thx, getting more milage out of our soft cell, (ma & db) more than ever, these days.. i even had their 'heat' compilation sent to me (it arrived in a non-descript plain envelope even). ❤ you all 4 ever.. (non-gutter-slut, however, hee) PS, Also, dear ma, you can trade your cigarette diet for sugar-free gum-- ;) s
Raving and moshing are more or less historical anachronisms in 1981. What dancing occurred at early synth gigs was fairly self-dramatising solo stuff, which required more room than is afforded here.

What a voice.
What a front man!
i hate that the algorithm took 3 years to send me here...amazing important archival history.
This is a special moment in time..
I don’t know if this audience knew what legends they were witnessing.
Of course they did not. It's the precious life in real time, long gone and forgotten.

I saw marc almond in 1983 in a club edinburgh and I got his autograph too
Met Marc twice and he is always so nice .
lucky u sister!
More importantly do you still have it?
Some of the backing tracks are clearly produced by Daniel Miller. Interesting. Thanks for the upload.
The crowd was actually too close for comfort. This is why the Stage was invented because this is too dangerous.

Amazing. Thank you so much for this. Just five months later and these two had the biggest single in the world.

Misery, complaint, self-pity, injustice! :)
GIRL IN THE PINK GETS IT !!

I have NEVER seen this before, I have seen odd snippets but never the whole performance....wonderful.
Thanks so much for posting! We have never seen the full footage before! FUN Times! VP X

Wow, are the audience literally up on the stage with them!? There's intimate and then there's literally sitting on their heads!
Clsssic art school live.
Soft Cell always did that
Was there even a stage at all?
omg marc’s laughter at 25:01 is so cute
Now this is what I've been waiting to see.

Finally, the post punk crowd felt comfortable dancing, towards the end.
Incredible length video thanks
He is so ordinary ! :D . Thx so much for the upload!
Marc is frustrated by typical art school response.
Looks like half the audience are holding a copy of the Mutant Moments Ep!?
Few grand between em I bet haha
Just realized as well, of this is may 81 this is about half a year before their first album was released!
The last remaining unsold copies were given away before the gig.. Many of them were littering the floor of the club at the end!

Hey I saw an Adam ant in the audience lol
More like some wannabe Leeds newromantic.
The Holy Grail !
Andy riley in bright blue
Le document est très "underground".
Je me demande, au vu des images, comment leur matériel était installé (ne pas oublier Dave Balls).
Wau super-echt und unverfälscht-echt 80 er

Marc has taken a bit speed I suppose.
Of course Leeds is where they studied and met.
They were good
Say what you will, but they're giving 200% here. Quite cool to see this

GREAT!!!!
Why are they not raving, moshing, pogoing, etc... ?
it was all new then i guess, wish i was there !

Like most punk shows of its various genres the people are jaded and bored and boring and the music is superb love it.
This is before British people whooped. They look neither jaded or bored.
Pre sleaford mods eh
reminds me of rik mayall in the young ones
i love marcs stuff but this is dreadfull please take it down
Why marc is a wonderful man is music is fabulous and so is he
This is marc
Girl with the patent leather face is a GENIUS song that must be heard!
