  • Walking into a room with hundreds of potential employers can be overwhelming - that’s why you need a game plan for a Tennessee Tech career fair. Computer science major Cal Stewart of Athens, Tenn., had an effective game plan when she secured an undergraduate research student internship with Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s High-Performance Computing Clusters Group. First, she looked on Handshake (Tech’s internship and co-op gateway for students in all majors) and filtered through all the companies that would be at the career fair to find those hiring computer science majors:
“For those that interested me, I went on their website and looked at the programs they offered for interns and their company statements.” Then she studied a career fair map to determine which booths to visit: “I just went around asking what kinds of interns they were looking for and if I would fit in that position (to see) if I could get a job out of it.”
Tennessee Tech computer science majors have opportunities each semester to attend career fairs and meet hundreds of employers who want to hire students for internships and co-operative learning programs.
