In my area, Costco gas is significantly cheaper than gas through getupside. I did use it for 2 tanks because Uber gave me an extra 30 cents per gallon which made it cheaper than Costco for my first 2 tanks. Ever since then, any time I check the prices on getupside, it is more expensive than Costco gas.

I have driven for Uber and Lyft for over 3 years. Things have changed in both ride share venues. However; I have experienced that with Lyft more of the frugal riders use it and without offending anyone, usually very large people get Lyft and complain of the size of vehicle used for Lyft such as a Chevy Aveo. Eccentric and gay men and women use Lyft for the cost efficiencies and request to pull over at any given destination behind something so the crowd in club or restaurant does not see them. For the most part Lyft riders do not tip and make a mess with the mud or dirt in their shoes and are quick to complain Lyft of the conditions of the vehicle. Also, Lyft riders will wait 10 to 15 minutes to get a ride to be cheap before requesting an Uber ride that 5 minutes away for $2 more. Lyft did compensate for long distance pickup, but now Lyft will not pay for any long distance pick up. I sometimes drive XL and when a Lyft rider request a X Lyft and gets my XL the Lyft rider wants to reassure that they will not be charged for the XL and sometimes they ask for to wait a minute and they call in all their buddies and tell them there's extra room in the vehicle. I immediately deny more than 4 passengers on Lyft X and rider files a fabricated story to Lyft and I'm suspended for 1 hour. Other times a Lyft rider is somewhat handicap and becomes excited to my XL and call in his wife to bring in loads of laundry baskets to fill up the entire back and ask me to help "and the promise to tip extra" and on the way to the laundry mat they add a destination to McDonald's and then another destination to 7-11 Gas station for Soda & Snacks and then to their friends house to pick up a party favor and then finally to the laundry mat and all that comes to 54 minutes and I get $9.75 because Lyft goes by miles not minutes. And no tip, the promise was a lie. This has happened many times on Lyft riders and I try to stay at the airport queue. Now Lyft will send me or anyone to the back of the airport queue if I decline the ride or I cancel after waiting an hour for a request. Lyft costed me headaches, damaged seats from over weight riders, gas, time, mileage, many vacuums and trash pickups, insults from riders and lie from Lyft the company itself. This is the most abusive App on the planet against my property, dignity, work ethics and my pocket. Just imagine one of my drives was almost 2 hours way into the Boondocks where there's no civilization for a mere $46 that's about 120 minutes divided by 2 equals 60 and that ride should be at least $50 to $60. It took 1/2 a tank of gas to get there and another 1/2 to get back without a rider since it was unpopulated. Once I arrived back in my home are I had to fill up at $42 since gas prices are higher plus again no tip. I noticed other Lyft riders canceling the long trip request before me, now I understand why. It's a waste of time, gas and there's no money. It's best to stay local. Lyft has strategize a profitable business for them and deceivingly make it attractive for the drivers. What's more is an XL driver is forced by Lyft to accept X riders against the drivers wish and sometimes taking an XL away from families with children and leaving them to opt a Taxi or a shuttle bus. Now that Lyft has been out for years I have learned that are Cheating Educated Riders from foreign countries and the States also who manipulate the system by moving their Pin pick up location further away than where the rider is requesting to be picked up, this saves money for the rider since they managed to get picked up about a mile ahead of the Pin drop which is a free mile and also away from the PrimeTime pink area and then they request to be dropped off way sooner than the set destination. Once the trip is completed the Cheating Educated Riders reports Lyft the driver did not follow set destination and they want a refund or discount and Bam! The riders gets the discount and driver get short changed. Sometimes the same type of rider will tell the driver once they get to the destination the rider is new and made a mistake on their pickup destination and tells the driver to drive up further or at another street. By then the Cheating Educated Rider cancels on the driver and gets a Free Cancellation since the driver has moved away from set pickup destination.

UBER WAGE MANIPULATION?. Other day I did a 38 minute Express pool drive (at night, little traffic), picked up two passengers (different locations) going towards the same destination, you know the deal. After dropping off last rider I check to see how much I made and it was only $4 dollars! So I looked deeper into the details and it said riders paid a total of only $12 and Ubers cut was $8, and mine $4! Well get this; I immediately and furiously contacted uber through support message and asked what the hell is up with this ride that took almost 40 minutes and I only get $4? Well about 30 mintues later they adjusted the fare, I looked into the details of it and it now showed my cut was $17, and riders paid about $28. I didn't even get a reply message, they just adjusted the fare without saying anything. If I had not contacted Uber they would have very likely left it like it was originally. Has this happened to anyone else?

Most of the time I only drive 3 days a week my best week I've made over $400 and that's with tips my most frustrating part of driving is some of my riders no matter what I do for them you just can't please them I always drive in a suit I always have cold bottles of water, small cold bottles of soda chips and gum I get out and open the doors for my riders and yes I do go above and beyond for my riders most of my friends who also drive make fun of me for doing that but when I do a job I always go above and beyond. I have been driving for 1.5 coming up on 2 years I clean my car every day before I go out and in between rides I look forward to watching and hearing more advice you may have thank you.

I'm a retired long haul driver. Drove 48 states and Canada and am considering Lyft as a semi part time job. When I got into trucking, I heard a lot of the same stuff I heard here and on other sites. Some people said truck driving was great and they made a lot of money doing it while others said it was horrible and a rip off. I didn't get rich driving trucks, but I cleared between 60K and 78K per year when I went from company driver to independent contractor. Meanwhile, a couple guys I went to training school with quit within the first year. Truck driving definitely is what you make it and I tend to believe that applies to any type of driving/delivery job. My inclination is that if even a small portion of the drivers out there in Ride Share are making good money, its worth giving it a go.

    • @kirostar12
      @kirostar12 Рік тому

Working with people is stressful and very responsible. Sometimes quite dangerous. There is no better job in this sector than owning and operating a semi truck and trailer. Uber and Lyft only make sense for extra income in your spare time or after retirement. Otherwise, it can be a waste of energy and time. Not the right choice for a person can slow him down in the goals he has set in life. I have been in the tracking business as a owner operator for 14 years which helped me pay off my house in just 10 years and provide for my family with all comforts without any loans. Good luck to all drivers wherever they are!

50 years is too far out. I give it 5 to 10 and it will start making an impact and progress from there. Of course it could all come to a screeching halt if too many mishaps are recorded and are because there was no driver. For the most part I think it will be mainly for specific parts of cities on approved routes in good weather.
I don't think driverless cars are as big of win as they think they will be. It will shift labor from driving to maintaining. Kind of like Lime Juicers, someone will have to clean, oil, gas/charge, and do other maintenance/repairs.

I like this video and these are a few reasons why cabs seem to charge so much and used older cars. Charge a higher rate so the driver makes money and the weekly lease rate gets paid. Older car because they will eventually breakdown.

All very accurate. I've done Lyft for almost four years between jobs or as supplemental income, definitely making less money now than I was three years ago.
Something I would advise to drivers, learn to do as much work on your car as you can if you're not leasing, it'll save you a bundle if you can DIY as many repairs as possible.

Absolutely agree that lift an Uber do not care about you at all. I have about 20,000 trips as well and it took a while to realize we are independent. They don't care about us don't be afraid to cancel rides you do not like or a non-profitable. Your number seven should be number one in all drivers because if you expect them to care you will be frustrated most of the time driving

    Great Video.
I often read the following comments: Uber doesn’t care about its drivers”. “They only want to make money off drivers. I believe these statements are true. However, My question is Why should Uber be any different than other companies . Companies pay employees a salary and subsidize other benefits. Employees in return have the talent, skills, and expertise to help facilitate companies revenue growth. They help companies make money just like we help Uber make money.
I never thought in a million years, I would be an Uber girl. However, I need the extra income to help me become debt free and to supplement my retirement when I retire in 10 years. As a part time Uber driver, I needed a tax write off to help offset my tax liability. Uber is the vehicle I use to accomplish my goals. So it’s good for me that the earnings isn’t what it appears. Then I do enjoy the flexibility, setting weekly goals, and my passengers are awesome...l
I will need to take another look at the Jetsons and Flintstones cartoons. At this point, I believe AVs are going to be a big flop among average individuals. It will be a winner among Entrepreneurs and the Wealthy because they are risk takers.

    Good advice...well said...
Regarding autonomous taxis, they're not yet ready for "prime time", and won't be for at least five years. Maybe ten. Possibly never.
They're being tested here in Mesa, Arizona, and they're not doing all that great.
First, they have a problem with making a left in the face of oncoming traffic. And they can't maneuver around double-parked trucks. Not well, anyway.
Second, they don't work in heavy precipitation. Snow and rain and fog. It's not for nothing that Google tests its cars in the Phoenix area where the roads are clean...flat...wide...dry...level, and everything is laid out square - on a grid. What happens when you put autonomous cars in Boston in the winter? I've driven in Boston in the winter. In heavy snow, on ice. It's takes a fair amount of skill.
And third, autonomous cars can't do "defensive driving". They can't anticipate trouble and take steps to avoid it. They can't deal with idiot drivers.
And finally, in a traffic jam, where three lanes merge into two, or even one, no one is ever going to let an autonomous car in ahead of them. We let people in ahead of us to be courteous and to get the "appreciative wave". Makes us feel like we did a good deed. Who the hell wants to do a "good dead" for a fucking computer that's taking people's jobs? Right now, people in Mesa and Chandler are chucking rocks at Waymo cars. Giving them the middle finger.
And finally, people are pigs. Who is gonna clean the autonomous taxis between rides? Get rid of the fast food wrappers and the used condoms and the needles and clean up the puke and feces? More robots?

Great vid!! But thinking that cars will be autonomous soon is a little out there. The company has to pay for super expensive cars and equipment at a rate that covers the entire country, insure all of those cars which will obviously cost way more, leave expensive equipment to not get damaged or stolen to the open public, for essentially 24 hrs a day. It’s silly when you think about it. It will happen but not soon like 30 years maybe at best. If they do pull it off they will be a bigger dealership then Ford Nissan BMW Lexus ect combined. That’s not including the facilities they haveto to open for cleaning, maintenance and repairs throughout the entire country. For companies loosing money every quarter it doesn’t seem viable anywhere close to this point. Besides that great vid 👍🏾

Another note here: you don't work for yourself, you work for them. Reasons: 1) you don't pick your travel route, 2) you don't set your rate, 3) you have to wait until they pay you each day, 4) they can arbitrarily change the fare rates- changing your net pay. This is why you're not self-employed.

Exactly some markets do very well and you can make very good money but some markets are not so good it's very Market dependent there are some days I can do 20 $25 an hour doing Uber and then there's some days that are just the wrong time and I could be doing as little as $5 an hour or none. You just got to get out there and your market and see what are the best times to drive in your Market although Friday and Saturdays in my market seemed to be the best

Did uber eats for 4 yrs and although it's only 1 of my 3 jobs I do it 60 hrs a week and finally decided to stop playing myself. First year was fine made decent money but taxes killed me. Then 2nd yr vehicle maintenance started making things harder then 3rd yr vehicle maintenance got really expensive and spent all I had saved over the previous 2 yrs on fixing regular things that just go wrong w vehicles now this past year the gas increase has been VERY noticeable and I've had enough. I'm tired of shelling out tons of money on taxes gas and vehicle maintenance. Really wish I had known all this before I started this nightmare journey and wasted so many years of my life to busting my ass to make hardly any money. Thank God I've had other forms of income or I'd be homeless. This is not a full time gig people...and honestly unless it's a vehicle your getting rid of soon I wouldn't even do it part time caus it WILL get destroyed no way around it!

Thanks Jay! Very helpful and informative. I earn about $1200-2000 monthly driving Uber Eats and UberX. I spend about 5-6 hours a day or less because I need to carry family the rest of the day. Any suggestions how I can increase my earnings to $5k monthly? I feel that, even if I drive 12 hours a day (excluding Sundays) I will "never" make more than minimum wage or less. I love the freedom of driving for Uber. But my wife wants me in a more respectable occupation and me to earn more money. Note: I spent 26 years working in IT already.

Good morning, I just wanted to reach out to possibly learn more about how I can be a better Uber Partner myself. I'm making on average $1000 weekly but I'm spending a ton on gas and tolls everyday for I live in NY but uber in NJ due to NY needs for TLC license which is currently on a freeze. To be honest I would also like to start my own youtube channel and I've started a website that needs a ton of work. I'm also teaching myself how to edit videos and and design my website myself but am a beginner. I would appreciate any advice or critique you have for me. I’m glad I have a secondary job because you’re right the rates continually drop you don’t make a lot of money doing this for the hours that you put in, we are basically cheap labor until they replace us with driverless cars, which is coming, there was a day when making $200 in five hours was quite easy now you’re lucky to make $150 a day in the Los Angeles market which is really oversaturated. My other job pays twice as much per delivery than Lyft does.
