I wonder if people really understand how good this is: To play some of those parts towards the end? One whistle has to be played with MORE force/(breath), to INCREASE/Raise the octave, and the other with LESS. So, not only is he playing as he is with his fingers? His mouth, also, is doing double duty, along with his lungs. I've no doubt this gentleman will be able to, (or already has), curse his DI out of one side of his mouth, while saying "Yes Sir!", out of the other!
they are both the same octive at the same time like you said it is very very difficult to do two different octives on different whistles at the same time
This was one of the videos which got me into the tin whistle, and all I can say when revisiting after around four months of learning is that now I can fully understand how incredible it is what he's doing. Bravo!
Sergeant Bell, you are such a virtuoso, talented musician. Brilliant playing. I enjoy it so much! But what a magnificent singer you are as well. I am in the US - California - and "Music and Might: Spectacular" - a Tribute to Vietnam Vets - was recently re-broadcast on PBS San Diego (TV). You said on the program, "I am extremely honored to sing 'The Parting Glass' on this year's finale." A very well deserved honor! You have such an absolutely beautiful voice. That song is so haunting and lovely, and your beautiful, expressive singing made it absolutely unforgettable, and so genuine and true. I hope you have many opportunities to sing in the band and at concerts, and to play your music! Sergeant Bell, please, please put up some videos of your singing on UA-cam - and I hope more and more videos will be put up there in the future - and of you playing the flute, the piccolo, and the penny whistle as well. You have a wonderful future ahead of you. And I cannot help but be a devoted fan. :-)
Alan Bell is a very gifted musician, and his performance here on the penny whistle is so skilled and wonderful. Sergeant Bell is just as skilled on the flute and the piccolo with The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland - so now, hearing and seeing him also playing the flute with the Band is fantastic! Bravo Sergeant Bell! :-) And let's not forget that Alan Bell has such a beautiful, heartfelt voice. It would be wonderful to hear and see him sing more with the Band as well. :-)
No arguments there, looks talent and much more in large proportions!! I enjoyed this every time i saw it at my time in R Irish band. Great days and guy 😊@voidremoved
Met Alan yesterday in Dublin at the RBL Somme ceremony, originally met him at the same event last year, and told him that I had robbed his party trick of playing both whistles at the one time, we agreed yesterday to do a duet at the same event next year
To Mr. Anthony Richardson, Please read my post directly above, as you have published two videos of Sergeant Alan Bell playing the penny whistle on UA-cam! Sergeant Bell's musicianship and his singing are extraordinary! I wrote above that I cannot help but be a devoted fan. I am in California and unfortunately, cannot attend in person concerts of the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, as I would so love to do! For us fans all over the world, UA-cam is a wonderful way to bring your magnificent music to us! :-) Please, please, Mr. Richardson, put more videos of Sergeant Bell's singing - and his playing the flute, the piccolo, and the penny whistle - up on UA-cam - and please continue to do so! Thanks very much! :-)

It's not too hard to enter the second register with a high tin whistle. It's actually much harder to stay in the lower octaves sometimes lol

How does he do that? Out of this world!!
The whistle he uses to play the higher notes he has the top holes covered with tape. He then blows harder and plays the notes in the second octave.
Irish tin whistles have such pretty sounds.
