I really want to give this game a shot, but the dense rulebook is a bit much for my ADHD, so tried watching this in the hopes that things become clear... but all I hear is "I roll for the British, and on a 2 they get to activate on a 3, which means that on a 4 the Germans have a chance to roll 2d6 on the next table, and I've rolled a 11 so that means that on a 3 nothing happens on a 6. And now for Turn 5. A Scotsman on a horse." I mean the video is good, but I'm not sure whether I'll be able to get into this game at all...

Great video! even if i already know how to play it, it is nice to have it on video as well (sometimes you can miss something :D). To all of you who think there are too much tables: just really give it a try after playing twice i didn't even have to look any tables most of the time and as Ed says - the rules are just a toolbox you can use as much or as little as you want/need.

The comentator admited in the briefing there might be mistakes (there is a big learning curve with these rules - but worth it) so this comment is for the benefit of future viewers, not as mean-spirited in any way. Reinforcements only come when the combined initiative is exactly seven, not when 7 or greater. "If the die scores are not doubles then read each
die individually. If you scored a total of “7” you might have generated Reinforcements (page 69)"

Thanks for the detailed game play. It will help me a lot. But ... at 27:18, I don't see why you're adding the firer's Rep to his weapon's Target Rating to arrive at the result for the Shooting Table. I don't see this in the rules nor in the example in the first column of page 26: "Sgt. Billy Pink (Rep 5) fires his Thompson SMG at three German soldiers ... Billy rolls 3d6 and scores a 6, 3, and 2. Each d6 is placed next to each target. I go down the left-hand column to the 10+ row (Rep 5 + 6 = 11) and score a Hit." The rules simply add the Rep to each D6.
BTW, the example(s) of Billy are the only way to determine a Thompson SMG's Target Rating. Not in basic rules or the Compendium.

Great video but I have a comment about the arc of fire or swath. According to the rules an SMG has a Target value of 3, which means it has an arc of fire of 3 inches and allows the firer to roll 3 dice to target enemies (page 25). In your vid you allowed the firer to shoot at 7 targets which is wrong. He can only target a max of 3 enemies within that swath. Otherwise Keep up the great work!

    • @stevegriffiths962

Can’t say I’m a fan of the rules. They seem a bit klunky, with a lot tables and modifiers - somewhat reminiscent of the Yaquinto 88/Panzer/Armor rules. I’ll probably pass on this one.
Having said that, I also want to add that your video is exceptional. The table and miniatures are stunning, the graphics and rules cites are very helpful, and you give a very thorough explanation of the rules and gameplay. I’m most impressed with the production quality. If I could offer one minor piece of constructive criticism, the dice tray could use something to soften the dice noise a little - maybe some felt or a piece of neoprene. When you throw several dice, they make a lot of noise compared to your voice level. Thanks for all your hard work!!!

I've watched this again right through and have come to the conclusion that these rules are not for me. There is just too much complication for my simple brain to take in. A game is supposed to be fun and this just seems to be too much like work to be enjoyable. It seems to have far too much layering of conditions and factors, before actually playing with the toys. Sorry to be negative, but it's just how I perceive these rules.

Because it's a solo system, I would agree that you're going to have that extra layer of steps that controls the AI. Solo designed games are always going to have additional rules that you have to follow and plenty of dice rolls for the AI to follow. It's kind of hard to avoid when playing solo systems. I've played Nuts! for many years and other games by THW, once you know the system, it's actually pretty easy and probably the best AI system out there.
