I'm sure it's very nice and all, but at forty quid+ for the PDF from Wargame Vault, I think I'll pass. It's a shame because I was interested in this and the historical version, but Caliver are taking the Michael with their pricing.
@@DrVesuvius70 Just for clarity the rules are provided as a book for £23.50
@WargamingWorld And some of us prefer an electronic version, indeed some of us require it for accessibility reasons due to failing eyesight. @@SeipherNL Yes you can use modern warfare too
As you know I have watched many of your actions, but this one epitomises to me my personal issues with one hour wargames. This game shows that there is no tactical action; it is just a line up and see what the dice and cards bring. Purely for myself I would prefer to se a situation in which a player could have input into the action, other than creating random results. It may well be for the majority of the battles in this era that the results are frequently random, it is just not something I particularly choose to enjoy. To me the vast majority of my pleasure in fighting wargames which consists of not painting the figures, not having pre-deterministic results (and there are some very strong causal arguments that would sugest that once you had shuffled the cards and set the units on the table that these results were causal, although I do not propose to get into that discusion), but in using my forces to operate tactically on the table, or to manouvre stratically within the terms of a campaign to win. I agree that not all wargamers feel like that, and I may be a member of a small variety of players but things like this to me still leave open the question, "So what can I do?". Having had that whinge it was fun to watch.
@@simonnorburn3518 Thanks Simon I always appreciate your thoughts and it’s great to have different views. Indeed it was this question that prompted my ruleset of Wargaming World Solo. Nevertheless there is also value in simplicity and speed of play too and as a result I play both rules, and many more to gain the value of variety. Thanks as always for your thoughts👍👍
Simple rulesets can be of great benefit to the solo gamer who has a number of considerations to juggle in addition to the book keeping, turn sequences and moving stuff. I like PZ8 rules. There's plenty of variation among troop types, combat is simple and no matter how many units are on the table, they're always satisfying games.
Going to show my ignorance here, but how do you come up with either a 15 (original) or 14 (handwritten) scale with 13 cards (1 (Ace) through King)? Edit: Never mind, I see you use Joker as value 14. New year and I am none-the-wiser, El Oh El.

One can only assume it was captured in an earlier battle and is being used as a trophy...
@@ruthgeorgeholt5680 A very good spot! And yes really enjoy the back to basic feel of the rules. Thanks for the great feedback
I really enjoy your One Hour Wargame, One Hour Skirmish etc battle reports because the rules you use really demonstrate the beauty and the ease of these simple but highly rewardable rules. Sadly I find I just can`t watch them in the way I`d like to because (and please don`t take this wrong) you never ever, ever, ever finish a game to its natural conclusion and always `call it` far too early. The game might be a foregone conclusion.. or is it? We simply never get to find out :-( I would beg you appealingly to start playing games to the end, which would make them feel soooo much more complete, without it feeling like watching a movie but always missing the end :-)
@@stephengilbert8166 Thanks Stephen and appreciate the feedback. It’s very tricky to try and edit a video within an hour or so. When I look at things I’m trying to have a balance of talk and dice roll and wonder how many people go through to the conclusion. However I appreciate that you often give great feedback and as a result I’ll look to complete games to a definitive end. There always might be a “twist” at the end.

@@stephengilbert8166 Out in the new year!
Thanks for the response on my last question. I would have re-replied there but seldom see content creator go down past an initial reply on UA-cam. So my additional questions would be, what was the inspiration for the VY side losing their action on a change to MS, and would it break anything to say; on a failed check it goes either Measured or Bold but still gets its action, only a following fail keeps that disposition, either way acting accordingly, then on subsequent fails it goes back to the baseline but if it then doesn't fail it goes back to it previously established Measured or Bold? Just feel it would be more decisive in that if they went Bold, for example, moved out boldly and then a 'Oh snap, maybe we should have,' and then go Cautious. I get that you'd lose some of the friction, but having been binge watching these, seems there might be too much? Friction could just be the available actions from corresponding dispositions; Measured - shoot OR move, Cautious - shoot AND move, Bold - double move or double shoot. Just thoughts, sorry for long comment.
@@risusrules Love the long comments and it’s exactly the type of conversation I hope for. The inspiration throughout is my aim for unpredictable outcomes each turn. In addition I also want to limit the VY activity in a similar way to the solo player. For example an attacking force has a 33% chance of only being able to operate 3 or 4 units in a turn and I want to do the same with the VY without being able to predict which ones. That said the game has to “seem right” and your suggestions here may well have worked better with the German forces dug in. I’m assuming you have the rules and so you’ll see that throughout I talk about “your game” because it encourages the solo player to change, adapt, try different things whilst retaining the 5 golden rules. Feel free to share your thoughts, either on UA-cam or the Facebook group and thanks very much for doing so, Greg
Hiya - This is nothing but a presentation comment;. at around 14:50 you describe the germans as using an MG42. If you (as I know you are) are trying to promote your rules then using acontemporaneous weapons tend to indicate to viewers that you are not necessarily "au fait" with the scenario. Perhaps next time an MG38 or an MG08/15 or similar weaon would have been more appropriate. (and yes I know it is picky so just ignore it should you so choose).
@@simonnorburn3518 Ah ok thanks it’s just an error as I didn’t realise it was only in service from 1942 and therefore a good point, thanks 👍
Vikings would be lovely. Curious, what was the inspiration of having units fall back vs going down or being pinned? Seems there would be a lot less fiddly movement, as the Germans in this case really seemed to be an accordion.
@@risusrules That is a really terrific question. When I wrote the rules I wanted to get away from a win / lose melee outcome. Hence both units would often engage, fall back, then re-engage. The “pinned” idea makes perfect sense, particularly in modern warfare. As a result I will look at it as an option. The ruleset it’s a solo game and therefore it’s completely flexible as to what works best. The rules are to get you thinking, whilst trying to ensure that I still don’t know what the Virtual You is about to do. Thanks for asking and for watching the video to prompt the question. Much appreciated, cheers Greg

The comentator admited in the briefing there might be mistakes (there is a big learning curve with these rules - but worth it) so this comment is for the benefit of future viewers, not as mean-spirited in any way. Reinforcements only come when the combined initiative is exactly seven, not when 7 or greater. "If the die scores are not doubles then read each die individually. If you scored a total of “7” you might have generated Reinforcements (page 69)"

Hi Graham. Another great video so thanks again. One question: I wa pleased to see the corrections at the beginning of this video, especially the one about REINFORCEMENTS. This has been confusing me no end , however your clear explanation left me reassured that I understood the topic - that in solo games, the enemy does not benefit from a roll of 7, but only from qualifying doubles. I was confused again however, when you brought on French Armour reinforcements on an activation roll of 4-3. Surely this is wrong. They can only have reinforcement from DOUBLES. My question from that would be: what actually happens on that 4-3 roll in favour of the enemy? Does the player (Germans) take reinforcement instead, or is it just ignored for reinforcement purposes. Thanks again for the brilliant videos and beautiful tables. Steve.
Apologies, Greg (who the heck is Graham, lol!)
@@stevegriffiths962 Yes doubles it’s just an error. Thanks for the great feedback 👍
Great video but I have a comment about the arc of fire or swath. According to the rules an SMG has a Target value of 3, which means it has an arc of fire of 3 inches and allows the firer to roll 3 dice to target enemies (page 25). In your vid you allowed the firer to shoot at 7 targets which is wrong. He can only target a max of 3 enemies within that swath. Otherwise Keep up the great work!
Sorry - another issue - you can only check for reinforcements if the total of activation dice is EXACTLY 7 - not 7 or over as you did round 11' 57'.
Noted thanks Steve

Great gameplay. Does this game have rules for other missions besides village clearing (eg. firebase, tunnel clearing, hearts & minds, SOG or SEAL raid, riverine patrol, interrogation, base area destruction, LRRP snatch or sniper mission)? Are there rules for tripwire mines, punji pits, claymores, mudball mines, tiger traps, snake pits, bamboo whips, cartridge traps, grenade in a can, and maces?
