DETAILS:
National City Fire Department was responding to a report of a Vehicle into a structure. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they learned that a Cadillac ATS was traveling Northbound on Alta Dr. when it suddenly struck a GMC Yukon that was parked along the street before coming to a stop after striking a palm tree. The vehicle did not any structure.
The driver got out of the vehicle and passed out on the floor. Firefighters and medical personnel were loading the driver onto an ambulance when a male walked up to the crash scene and started rummaging through the vehicle.
A firefighter noticed the male and tried to stop him. The male stated he knew the driver of the vehicle and that he just kicked him out of a house party before the crash. A firefighter confronted the male after he noticed there was money in the center console that was missing.
The firefighters tried detaining the male, and that's when one of the firefighters was battered. Firefighters requested National City Police to respond as the California Highway Patrol and San Diego County Sheriff were unable to respond.
National City Police arrived and detained the male. The California Highway Patrol and San Diego County Sheriff eventually arrived, and the male was turned over to The San Diego County Sheriff.
The male was arrested for battery on a Firefighter and for theft. A blood tech was requested to evaluate the driver of the Cadillac for DUI at Scripps Mercy Hospital.

I’m sitting here screaming, “Where are the cops?!” I was so worried for the firefighters. Thank you for our firefighters for holding it down until the police arrived. Also for stopping a thief at the scene. What a waste to destroy such a beautiful car driving wasted. That boy was out cold. Smh

I was worried about the lone cop behind the tree vs 3 armed robbers with guns and about 10 people inside. I said, can't you call the Sheriff? And dispatch was like nope! Unbelievable! The bank was the SD National on Hst in CV.
@@GrumpyCat24 This happened around Christmas 2010 and the bank robbers got away. I was more worried about the officer hiding behind the tree with his gun drawn, thinking he was going to get shot than the dispatcher.

What took so long for the police to respond?
Weird area of the County. NCPD responded. It's not their jurisdiction. It's County. So CHP handled the accident. Handed the suspect to Sheriff's. Deputies aren't normally in the area. So they respond from a distance.
