Thank you for this. I’ve dabbled in painting and drawing, but my confidence level has been nonexistent. We just had to put our baby boy down at only a year and half. He developed cancer only took 3 weeks to go from healthy to gone. I really want to paint him so this is a great tutorial.

Step one: Know how to sketch the perfect outline for your dog. And make it perfect. Did I mention PERFECT??
Use graphite/tracing paper to start out with outlining if you’re a beginner 😊

Hi Lauren. You do awesome work. I just learned some things I have been doing wrong in my dog portraits. I have a question. If you are just painting the head and torso what do you do to finish off the bottom of the dog.?
Do you mean like adding flooring below the dog? Or the actually furry part of the dog? Not sure what part you're referring too.
love this video, I want to paint my boyfriend's dog for our anniversary, but I'm scared for the sketching part! do you have any tips for sketching a dog, particularly a boxer?
You know you actually don't need to paint in fur or all the details in the eyes or nose. Just the main shapes, position of the dog, and press lightly. The drawing doesn't have to be perfect! You should checkout my video called "how even beginners can create great pet portraits."
What recommendations do you have on the paint and brushes
Hello Lesly, yes I have great ones! Benicci brushes, it's very affordable and quality brush pack of I think 12 brushes. And then Masterstouch paint from hobby lobby OR chalkola acrylic paint. In my most recent video I posted two days ago, I have a chalkola discount on the full 64-count paint. However, my first choice is Masterstouch acrylics!

Masters touch and Benicci flat brushes and round brushes. 👍 yep! The flat brush is Benicci brand.

What canvas is best for printing paintings
Hia Jan! You know I have painted on so many different types of canvases and made all kinds of prints from them. I don’t think it really matters. If your painting looks good, so will your prints.

i wouldn’t recommend it. I would say use canvas with oils.

Sketching has always challenged me but I try to draw when I cannot paint. Which is a lot with having babies. Lots of tiny sketches. great practice!
What if you dont have a detail brush...?
Well one detail brush is all you need! It doesn’t have to be super small, but one round brush and one flat brush can get you started!
