Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

i tested the locking system by attaching it to a heavy duty snap link and bench that is bolted to ground. I placed a bar through the hook bend and applied some of my natural body weight in a jerky motion. I think i am a little larger than record musky and they don't wear shoes. What happened is the hook straightened or broke. If anything the next weakest place after the hook is the hitch point but this is all far outside what my rod or line could handle. But pike are clever buggers. Cheers

    Dear Paul,
You are a master and a genius of handmade fishing things.
Thank you very much for teaching me.
    Greetings from Argentina.

You really make it look so easy , ...I would never have thought about using a table spoon as a die !
But I'm not a great fan of these simple snap locks securing the leadhead , though I think , yours would be pretty much reliable with that thick wire .
I've had issues with commercial jigspinner snap locks before , made of about 0,4mm wire , ...since I tend to make more elaborate , but extremely reliable coil spring locks to my own jig spinners .
    Great "how-to" vid , ...cheers , 61diemai

Thank you for the great tutorial and instructions. I was looking at a spinner I bought from Walmart and thought, “I can actually make this thing myself.” Googled something relating to DIY spinnerbait and landed here. Might give it a try soon.

great tutorial Mr adams personally i would have made the locking system little bit more secure with couple more bends, but as it is it should be adequate for perch and other smaller species.

.4mm does seem a bit thin, i used think that bought fishing lures where always made better, yesterday at the lake a guy showed me a abs plastic wobbler that had lost its back hook and wire to snag, a little later i pulled in a balsa lure i had lost over a month ago at it was undamaged by long soak. But all that said i tend to loose my lure to trees more than anything, i should by a chainsaw, Cheers

Hi Paul! I really love your tutorials. But there is another reason you should think about fixing the lure to the spinnerbait arm. Because if the arm is stable, its a better cover for the hook. You can throw your spinnerbait directly into the reed and its moving his way out of it hand over hand. Greets

Hey mate, I don't see the links to the blog or PDFs in the info section.
You make it look so easy, I might have to give this ago, just make them a bit bigger. I have a bunch of wire laying around from making the sand eels. Great how to Paul.

Happened to me in terms of a snag , that the previously mentioned snap lock on that commercial , thin-wired jig spinner opened , ..thought to myself , that it might happen with a better pike as well , ......0,4mm wire really does not offer that much resistance , I guess ?

Would that wire bend for attaching the jig stand up to salmon/steelhead?

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  6 років тому

like a knot this is self tightening, so a if a big fish takes it should tighten down and there is more than good chance that the main fishing line is going to snap long before that happens
