  • My Durastill distiller was leaking slowly for a few months. I tracked down the leak to the bottom of the heating tank where there were heating element leads coming out and connects to power.
I ordered this seals replacement kit:
DURASTILL HEATING ELEMENT SEAL KIT WITH BRACKETS PART #WD450-015 FOR DURASTILL 30 AND 46 WATER DISTILLERS
This video will show you how to replace heating element seals for Durastill 30 and 46 series.

Just discovered mine is leaking around the bottom of the distiller. Was hoping the tank had not rotted through, but found your video, and now have hope I will be able to repair it with the kit. Thank you for posting this.

Thank you for posting. Just discovered that my Durastil is leaking around the bottom of the distiller. I am going to order the kit, and hope it doesn't leak afterwords. Far cheaper to repair than replacing the evaporator.

My durastill was leaking for months. Most leaks at the bottom of the distiller is caused by hardening rubber seal around the heating element. After my fix, no leak at all

When trying to remove the nut from the nut driver, just thread it back on the screw two turns then pull the driver away. You will then be able to remove the nut with your fingers from the screw without wasting time trying to shake it out of the driver.

What gauge wire is used? I need to replace some after the float gasket failed. TYIA

I suggest that you also check the float gasket seal and replace it as well. I followed this video and repaired my Durastill distiller. However, mine still leaked somewhat. I discovered that the float gasket was also worn out and leaked water down the front side of the distiller. Once I replaced the float gasket, no more leaks. The video to replace the float gasket seal is here: ua-cam.com/video/K3gj4EIkk-o/v-deo.html

Absolutely. The float gasket seal is by far the most common source of leaks in the Durastill. The heating element seals shown here rarely ever go bad in my experience. (Over 30 years with a Durastill in my family). To extend the life of your float gasket make sure you drain the tank often and keep it clean. What happens is that if you have excess crud in the tank, when the water boils certain types of contaminants foam up and reach the float gasket making it fail far sooner than it should. Steam then exits the float hole and condenses outside the insulation and drips down to the bottom and the leak appears to come from the elements or the bottom of the tank, but it’s not really the case. With good tank cleaning/maintenance the float gasket should last 3-5 years.
I know the poster of this video says he replaced these seals and it fixed his problem, but by the looks of the crud on the insulation around the float hole and around the switches, I can almost assure you that his float gasket is shot also.

@@jester9118 Our current distiller was purchased no more than three years back. Since then, I've replaced the water inlet solenoid, both gaskets in the heating tank, the heating tank drain valve, the heating tank water level switch, and lastly, the storage tank water level switch. Our first distiller didn't have this history. The nice thing is, I now know more how to repair one of these than I did a year ago.
