What are you talking about? The 1812 election was vicious, and of course was about personal insults. So was the election of 1876. So was the election of 1920. So was the election of 1968. So was the election of 1988.
This is not a new thing in politics or society. People have always been vicious, and mean in politics. Grow up.

The question was almost like an unintentional trick question. The national debt is what the country collectively owes the federal reserve for issuing our money. To ask him how it's affected him PERSONALLY is a misnomer since the issue is a collective, not individual issue. That's why he seemed puzzled by the question and he said. "It affects everybody"

    • @Algore-rk8mh
      @Algore-rk8mh 6 місяців тому +5

The question doesn't make sense because the national debt doesn't affect anyone single person. How long have we been in debt and none of us have really felt it at the end, it's the government that owes the money, not necessarily the people that's why it doesn't necessarily affect us. More specifically, she doesn't know how to ask a question I think the question that she was supposed to ask was how was the recession affected him directly and how will he hope to understand the struggles of ordinary Americans? That's the question, she should be asking not how the national debt has affected us. That's a trick question and there's no way that he can answer it.

Well, they're asleep much the same way people are today, but in varying degrees. People today think they're cool, in touch and "woke" to what's actually going on around them, but they're just characters in the thick of an illusion too. 30 years from now, people will look back on the old recordings, news, reality shows and other events that were current at the time, and say "wtf is wrong with these people". Very very few people have ever actually been awake at any given time in the history of humanity. To those who are, it always looks like a phony lunatic asylum, because in reality, it is.

I’m a diehard Democrat, but this was an extremely biased question. The question was posed as a slam dunk to Clinton. Of course he could speak to the national debt better because he wasn’t the one dealing with it. Bush didn’t do himself any favors, don’t get me wrong. Looking at the watch and appearing apathetic certainly hurt him. However Clinton gave a classic non answer but his charm and charisma really was what was on display. Bush had no shot.

For one thing, when she asks _"How can you honestly..."_ (the key word being "honestly"), that's a CLEAR sign of bias on her part. It turns a question into a statement. And when Bush started to answer, she smirked (a sign of annoyance) and she interrupted him not once, but twice.
As I recall, when Clinton gave his answer (not in this clip), she nodded as he was talking. She didn't interrupt him or make any sort of faces.

I also believe it was a plant. At the time, this moment was the gotcha moment of the campaign, and the woman was viewed sympathetically bc she’s a black woman with a speech impediment asking an uninformed question. The fact that the Democrats had been out of power for 12 years also gave her cover, but when I watch, and she goes, “How?” to the POTUS, I’m forced to conclude she was a party plant. Finally, I was a 12 year old Bush supporter when this happened, but have since come around to supporting the Clintons.

What a strange question. National debt is an issue that affects everybody, but is not something you can just point to an economic issue with and say that it was solely caused by national debt like you can with a recession or with inflation.

That was a smart way of turning it around on her. When he said "Are you suggesting that if a person has means the national debt doesn't effect them". She tried to embarrassed bush with a gotcha question but I think he throw the ball back at her with “just because I haven’t have cancer doesn’t mean I’m not affected”
Nothing has changed in last 30 years as far as: what our government can do for us versus what we can do for ourselves we have gone from two recessions and now the pandemic and non of that had affected me in any shape or form in my life because I’m the one in control of my house car payment etcetera what she pointed out,
What has affected me is when I get fired from a job and gone 3 to 4 months without a job or i get injured at work and not able to work for 5 months yes had affected my house and car payment, is my government responsible for that?
So many Americans live under the ilusión that somehow the government is responsible for them to succeed in life that’s why immigrants come over and take those jobs and flourish right in front of our eyes and they deserve it.
Whereas people like the black lady asking the question sit around waiting for somehow magic to happen and transform theirs life’s and if it ain’t happen they’ll blame it on the government.
To me regardless who the president is or what my politics are, whether is a republican or democrat the tools for me to succeed are out there for grabs

That of which is something the average Joe will obviously never have, and would give anything to experience, even if it was just for a short while as was the case with him though.

I remember watching this debate on TV and I remember this question. Now, being 30 years older and a lot wiser, I'm convinced this question was planted. And I'm able to pick up on a few cues that I didn't notice at the time.
For one thing, when she asks _"How can you honestly..."_ (the key word being "honestly"), that's a clear sign of bias on her part. It makes it less of a question and more of a statement. And when Bush started to answer, she smirked (a sign of annoyance) and she interrupted him twice.
As I recall, when Clinton gave his answer (not in this clip), she nodded as he was talking. She didn't interrupt him or make any sort of faces.

Its gonna never be the same so that capacity to be "empathetic" is priceless. It would have been a simple answer, even from a Republican standpoint: something like "The national debt has not affected me on a personal basis, but when people lose their jobs due to the national debt, our economy suffers, which hurts everybody from the lower class to the wealthy." Not that hard buddy. No real bias there and probably would've gained you a few thousand votes. That's why he didn't win in '92: he couldn't speak to what people were feeling, which is something (even though I politically and socially despise this guy) Trump did to win in 2016.
