What do you make of the argument that ads pay for the free and open internet? I am hesitant to run Pi-Hole and hurt the ability of small websites to monetize…

I fully agree with that argument. Unfortunately, many of these small websites use Google Ads or Facebook ads, meaning they unwittingly contribute to the privacy-invading activities of these giants. There are more privacy-respecting alternatives these websites could use.
