  • Young people are often described as disinterested in politics. But is it really that simple? In his talk, David describes why he wants to introduce mandatory political education and how he launched an initiative with his youth party to reach that goal. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I know that probably no one is going to care but I'll say it whatever... I actually am a 13 year old trying to learn as much as possible about politics and I also am very troubled by the Greek educational system! This speech is quite enlightening and I all in for putting political education in every young man's life!

That speech was awesome, I love the way you understand how young people need to intervein in political decisions
It might be boring to get involved in this kind of aspects but I also think that this could really change our future in a certain way, we need to be more interested as a society and participate in this type of political topics, we should receive political education in our childhood.

Also the youth should be taught political ideology, the history, benefits and negative effects so they can make an informed position on what they believe to be right. Like in the USA if you asked for a person to define National Socialism, Marxist-Leninism, Social Democratic or Monarchism, I doubt many could give you accurate statements because we only our system and are taught not to think to much about it. Unlike me where I have always been center to the right and definely more Authoritarian on the scale and shifted around between ideologies from Social Concervative to Nationalist trying to find the right one. Eventually today I describe myself as a Romantic Monarchist with center views on economics where the market should be free, but serves the best interest of the people, the government should try to make programs that works to encourage job growth and industry, along with protecting the rights of workers and owners equally

I completely understand the point of David, and I think we should get more political education, since as you mention most young people aren't interested in it, I think for people don't like to understand much for the simple fact that it is boring, or there are no changes that interest them to know about it, although the little I know about politics calls my attention plus I like to know what is happening in my country and to support it.

In my opinion, it is a reality that politics is not a common topic among young people, and I agree with David; Mexico and its adolescents need to be informed, since our future depends on this and this issue goes much further. For this reason, political education is essential, we should all know the relevance of matters with the laws, defend an opinion, be able to vote, know the purpose of elections and all that politics entails, and not wait to be a legal age to be aware of this. In conclusion, we must be more interested in the political side to know how it works and have our own opinion in a reasoned way.
