  • Bonsai Life Stories by Little Jade Bonsai. This is a mame size tree I had been training for 6 years until I was thrown an unexpected curve ball. This is the tree that inspired my logo. I made a critical mistake by waiting too long before repotting. A family of rove beetles began to eat the roots and it developed root rot. The reason I noticed it was because all my other trees were plump after heavy watering but this tree had wrinkled leaves. Wrinkled leaves are a sign water isn't reaching the foliage. That could mean it either needs more water or it's root rot. It was definitely the latter. I was able to save all the upper branches by turning them into cuttings. It was a tough loss but we persevere and life goes on. Enjoy!

    Yes in fact, it really is painful when such a beautiful bonsai is affected by root rot, appreciate your decision to convert it into 3 to save it👍👍

    I'm so glad you were able to save parts of your "logo tree" and turn a negative thing into something positive. Looking forward to seeing how the new trees develop over time!

    A great training progression with a sad ending but as the life of one small bonsai has ended, three new little trees just started their journey. Looking forward to new updates!

    Awesome video! Maybe you wouldn’t mind doing a video about how to root cuttings? I’ve tried and never seem to have success. I’ve got 4 little jades so I’ll keep trying but any tips you have would be great! Either way keep up the good work!

    Great Jade videos, love all the trees you have on the side of your house. Can I request a video showing how to prune the branches, from where to cut them and how to plant cuttings to grow trees from them.
    Thank you very much

    Did you learn all the Bonsai knowledge yourself? I've been trying to grow bonsai on myself and also read books on it, however I find it hard to decide what is suitable to do next / design decisions.

    great video as usual. I have a medium sized p. afras that I recently put into a bonsai pot. They were originally planted in a 5 gallon pot with regular garden soil along with several other plants. It is pushing some new growth but a lot of the older leaves don't really plump up after waterings. Is that pretty normal for recently repotted and root pruned p.afras? Keep up the content!

    • @LittleJadeBonsai
      @LittleJadeBonsai  3 роки тому +1

      Yes it's normal. It takes a while before the tree can recover from the stress of root pruning. I would stay consistent with watering and give it time and fertilizer.

  • @gjoinolywa5850
    @gjoinolywa5850 2 роки тому

    What’s the technique for developing small-leaved, dense growth around a cut or back on branch? Fertilizer, I get. But is there constant pruning, too?

  • @charbel6708
    @charbel6708 3 роки тому +2

    This is a Beautiful presentation with a sad yet hopeful ending. You teach so well through experience. I purchased a portulacaria afra 12/15/20 and am concerned about the leaves that continue to drop. There is a lot of new growth but the new leaves shrivel, dry up and drop off. I wonder if I should take a look at the root system because of this.

    • @LittleJadeBonsai
      @LittleJadeBonsai  3 роки тому +1

      Unless you are heavily watering, I wouldn't. They always drops leaves when brought indoors due to the change in environment. I'm currently working on a video on leaf drop that I plan to complete soon.

      @@LittleJadeBonsai Thank you for your helpful reply. I am eager to learn from your video. My little tree has been and will continue to be an indoor tree. I live in an apartment. It has not been overwatered because I am treating it more like a succulent, but I did give it a good watering today and trimmed back a number of branches because it was so leggy. PATIENCE, patience :-/ I know. Thank you again.
