My favorite part of cosplaying princesses is not actually how the cosplay turns out, my favorite part is when littler kids are 100% convinced your the real deal and they lose their minds. In return you act like said princess and go along with the bit. The parents ask for pictures and you have just the cutest conversation with them. The looks on their faces is so precious to me. ❤❤❤
dude at the ice castles I had to sign a waiver that said I couldn't take pictures with other guests and im pretty sure the kids thought I was the meanest Elsa in the whole wide world because I had to keep saying no to them 😭
The no cutting after 11 rule is SUCH a good idea - going to have to start using that because that could have saved me from sooooo many past impulsive decisions 😭
its a 2 hour drive to get to the ice castles from my house and it was a BLIZZARD on the way there! I was so worried that we wouldn't get any clear images from the shoot but it stopped snowing so much right when we got to the castles!
I'm sure someone else has said this as well, but I would replace each of the safety pins at the top with a pair of snaps. That would still give you the tearaway effect if anyone stepped on it but should hopefully prevent the fabric from actually tearing since the snaps would just separate. Whereas the safety pins are still going to tear something no matter how you put.
I do want to say that this is just a truly gorgeous project though. You really did get that wonderful drama in the cape, and even without that the dress is just so beautiful, and the color looks great on you!
The snaps are a really good idea, I had a few snaps in my sewing kit but they were the really big giant ones and I think smaller snaps would work better than the ones I have 😅 I think eventually i'll install a few but for now the safety pins work just fine. For the most part everyone at the photoshoot, including the random people around me, were super respectful and the cape didn't get stepped on even once!
I second the snaps! But whether or not you ever put the snaps on I would recommend at least taking the safety pins out when you're storing the costume. The metal on it can rust and the last thing you'll want is the safety pins on that gorgeous garment rusting and causing chaos.
@@laurelstevens2288 would metal snaps not rust? or I guess they have plastic snaps too. I have seriously been considering adding a strip of twill tape to the top of the cape to make the snaps more secure 🤔
Press studs, absolutely press studs to attach the cape on in the future. The cape would pop off easily in case of the cape being stepped on, and is easy to pop back on. Plus they're small enough they should be able to be hidden by the fur for a no-cape look. Plus you do have colour options in metal press studs - black and silver are the most easy to get, but you can get coloured ones. (There are plastic press studs in black and white, but they're for lightweight fastenings and if the cape is heavy, might not be the best option.)
I will definitely be adding snaps or something for a more permanent cape attachment solution! The reality is that I finished the cape 2 days before the photoshoot and I didn't have time to go get more supplies 😅
lmao i did the same thing with the heat packs during a color guard/marching band show when i was in high school and that was the ONLY part of my body i could feel😂
im actually planning on going to a con as elsa and this is literally saving my life right now, thank you (also your sewing and amount of talent is literally incredible) :))
The next time you need to create something similar to the cape or anything that you need to add sparkle to I highly recommend that you look into fabric paint which does have both glitter and metallic options. You can also use acrylic paint that you mix with fabric medium which will turn the paint into fabric paint, but with more possiblities and options for color and the type of paint ie pearl, glittery, metallic st . the paint will be permanent and washable. I have used this technique many times for a host of different projects including costumes and holiday gifts, clothing and decorations.
@@AlexandriaLayne I am so excited to see the ice castle photos. This dress is literal magic. The cape is literally my favorite part of this entire cosplay. 😍
This comment has me feeling really defensive. Reading it makes me feel like you think I have the capacity of a child and so you have to "teach me". I don't know if you meant for it to come off that way, and I hope you didn't, but making and posting videos on social media is how I express my creativity and being scrutinized for doing my best doesn't feel good. I definitely used safety pins to secure the cape, I guarantee that all the "pointy ends" are secured and won't stab me
@@AlexandriaLayne Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound condescending. I guess it would have more sense if I included the timestamp I was replying to. You mentioned something about pointy safety pins not going to be a problem if you put them in right, when securing the cape to the dress, and you showed something that looks like "normal" sewing pins, with a beady head. I was under the impression that safety pins are the "closable" ones, that do not have a pointy end when closed/secured (thus are not very "stabbable" at this point). Google search seems to confirm, but alas English is not my first language, so I do not know regional differences that well. (But if you feel a comment is offensive, from my perspective feel free to delete it - no need to ruin your day by discussing with potential trolls that just want to make your day worse. Though it was not my intention here.)
I think I found it: 14:09. Looking at it again, the yellow bead head I saw might also be from it being attached to the mannequin though. And listening to you again, "poke" sounds like a better world than the "stab" I used ;)
Watching your construction of the cape was so interesting and inspiring since I just recently made an Elsa cape myself... which kind of failed. Glitter glue is a really good idea. You look absolutely stunning in your cosplay and I love it!! 💕 (I hope you don't consider this spam but if you're interested I have a video about my Elsa cape on my channel 😉)
Years ago, My therapist gave me some life advice to address my chronic perfectionism she said “consistency gets you farther than perfect, if you can be consistent most of the time, that will eventually get you farther than being perfect once in a while” and I tried to apply it to my costumes and I started to enjoy costuming a lot more 💕
@@AlexandriaLayne yeah everybody tells me that, but I still end up ripping everything out if it's not how I wanted to remake It and I end up being late with my schedules/deadlines (and burnout) 🥲 I'm trying to stop and seeing good examples of finished project like this helps me putting things in the right perspective ❤️
Is there some sort of sparkly vinyl that one could cut out on a vinyl cutter and iron on? Glitter glue looks great, but the amount of time it took along with pain from squishing glitter glue out makes me want to see if there is another way. Other option is maybe cutting out stencils and pining them in place and spray painting it outside? Not sure if either of these options would work, but could be a good time saver. Might be a bit less precise than the glitter glue though. Awesome video!
I have a friend who did a digital pattern and then cut it out of holographic vinyl with a circuit machine and then ironed it onto her cape, but I don’t have the software to do that with or a circuit machine to cut the shapes 😅 so I opted to go with the glitter glue because it was really cheep and available to me, I only spent $22 on the entire cape, but I spent multiple days working on it so i guess that’s the trade off 😂
Thats so awesome u are such a talented person and u look amazing❤ . I was also wondering did u like use normal glitter glue from the crafts store or did u get anything special?
would sew on velcro work for securing the cape? it would might be something to keep the fabric from ripping cuz the velcro might pop if the cape is stepped on.
“I think I’ll get a big table to do the glitter glue next time!” Watching her spread the whole damn thing out on her floor! Table issue solved. Step 1, Spread that wax paper out onto your floor. Step 2, Spread out cape. Step 3, Glitter glue away. Step 4, Watch glitter glue dry.

The pictures make it look like the fur is the trim of the cape. What if you did that and attached the fur with snaps for the whole easier storage/dress and in case people step on it? I totally agree with the safety pins being useful thing (bodices used to be legitimately pinned on with straight pins which sounds miserable) but I feel like snaps could be a good in between solution. You're not sewing it, but you're not pinning it.
Pffft, fabric pockets for your hot hands?? Nah I just stick them in some old ankle socks and stuff em into my t*tties!! I work in a haunted house in the fall and the top of my costume is pretty thin (mostly cuz I don’t want it to look bulky so I always do this hot hands trick)
