Tommy, I've always noticed that when I've switched to non-OEM suspension or steering components in the past, it changed the feel of my car. But man, your ride looks stellar lowered! You might've just made me reconsider. 🔥
Good lord Tommy - you make it look easy but that could take me a whole weekend and busted knuckles, lost tools, etc… Nice work! The M5 is sitting pretty 👍
You made this look easy. I got my fronts done on Sunday but didn't have time for the rears. Thanks for the video it was a big help, getting the assembly out and back in was pure hell. The strut nut kit i got from Amazon had 19mm then skipped to 21mm, but neither fit! i had to use a pipe wrench on a deep socket lmao.
Me watching this video (all of it) like I still have my F90… and me also watching like I even have (had) the courage to attempt something like this. 😂 Nice work TLG!
…I was concerned about putting the MSS (HAS) kit initially as the install for the rear can be involved/invasive (I.e. removal of rear deck, backseats, etc…). After seeing your installation, I think I am comfortable putting the MSS spring kit to my 540i!
@@Boo.b58…had my MSS HAS kit installed a couple days ago at my local BMW authorized service center. The installation went smoothly especially my vehicle came w/ adaptive drive/suspension system. Overall, I am pleased with the performance (I.e. body roll reduced significantly and no more vehicle squatting at full acceleration), and the ability to maintain the ride comfort and prolong OEM stock struts/dampers. It’s a win…all day, every day!
You need to do a whole video on how to remove the rear package shelf. The rear sunshade seems to be bolted down but I can't find where. Any tips?? Thanks
What an AWESOME video! Now I know why the labor costs on this mod are so high! How long did this actually take you to do from start to finish? I have toyed with doing this on my M550….but have held off as it looks like a ton of work..which you have confirmed! 😀. What does the handling change feel like on your F90? Do you have any worries that this mod will wear out the stock adaptive dampers more quickly??? I know on some cars when you reduce the ride height it puts more strain on the dampers and then they fail more quickly….. on these cars the stock dampers are not cheap and you could be replace them as well. MY m550 has 80k on the car and so I fear my dampers are already nearing the end of their life… rather than do this mod maybe I should just get an F90….. and upgrade EVERYTHING…. Keep up the awesome vids. Wish i lived closer to you - i woudl love to swing by and hang out! You seem like such a cool guy! BTW..you look like you workout..you’ve got some guns.
This is like a 6 hour job. Car feels somewhat the same, just lower. I don’t worry about dampers - if they fail I’ll just replace them. I need my cars to be lowered!
What's the ride like vs. the stock comp. suspension? I'm torn between the eibach springs and the h&r m5 springs and I really don't want any rebound issues or make it rattle my teeth.
Speaking of which, the paint is never perfect. I have small area that wasn’t clear coated in the edge of the tail light. Here and there have drips of clear.
Amazing how you consolidated that into 17 minutes, and a drop in filter too! Also, how do you like the comfort of the H&R springs? I know the M5s have adjustable suspension which might help soften things when needed but my M340 with H&R springs is too harsh, wish I had done coilovers.
Hey in the interior, the rear deck has the 2 roof liners that you have to remove to get the rear deck off. How do you put those back in. I'm having a hell of a time!
What are your thoughts on the m performance suspension upgrade for the m2. I’m on the fence about pulling the trigger on it and have the dealer install it at port.
I’m looking to get f90 but not sure how rough/stiff or soft competition Is compared to regular non comp? Does anyone have experience driving both? Are they that different?
Also @ 5:00 for previous M cars I installed spring on... I'm pretty sure I left the wish bone on and loosened the knuckle at the bottom of the strut and slipped it out.
I'm gonna have to drive it and test it for myself to really feel the difference :), for the camera 4k 24fps should keep it from over heating? I've never had that problem with my hero 10 in lower specs cinema mode, just when you jump to 60fps or have protune and stuff on.
So Glad you're back to bmw again Tommy
Me too!
Tommy, I've always noticed that when I've switched to non-OEM suspension or steering components in the past, it changed the feel of my car. But man, your ride looks stellar lowered! You might've just made me reconsider. 🔥
Zero regrets. You’ll love it!

Nice work! The M5 is sitting pretty 👍
Thank you! This was definitely challenging but well worth it.

I agree with the pita getting them in and out but with some patience it works well

Let me know how the MSS ride! Top of my list in terms of candidates!

It’s bolted in the trunk
lol sounds like car chiropractor during prep work.
Haha

Yeaaa!!!

Thanks for the video How’s the ride quality compare to stock. (Rate 1 true 10 ) 1for soft -10 for hard also handling rate please

Do you remember the size of the strut socket?
Love the bmw content
Thanks!!
In the description, you have links to various spring manufacturers; which one did you go with and are dampers adapting well?
I went with Eibach but they’re all similar. My shocks are adjustable
What's the ride like vs. the stock comp. suspension? I'm torn between the eibach springs and the h&r m5 springs and I really don't want any rebound issues or make it rattle my teeth.
It rides great on the new H&R 550 springs.
2:03 please tell me that isn't paint overspray?
That’s how they do it.
Speaking of which, the paint is never perfect. I have small area that wasn’t clear coated in the edge of the tail light. Here and there have drips of clear.
Nice drop love the look
Thanks!
Good vid but the front ones are taken out by splitting the lower fork from strut... Much, much faster... Leave upper wishbone alone.
It did not work for me. No matter what I tried - I was worried I would damage the axle
@@TommyLGarage Did you split the fork from the strut? It will separate much easier with the special tool but 1st one I did I used a chisel.
@@BMWcare I did but it didn’t want to come out.
I knew this video was coming 😂
You called it!
Amazing how you consolidated that into 17 minutes, and a drop in filter too!

So comfort is great. Similar to oem. Zero regrets
Isn’t it best to torque everything with the suspension under load?
Yes but in my case no load bearing bushings were touched
Good video Tommy
Thanks!
Hey in the interior, the rear deck has the 2 roof liners that you have to remove to get the rear deck off. How do you put those back in. I'm having a hell of a time!
Snap them in. Slide the corners in first
Fantastic video
Thanks!!
Do you have the manual you used here?
Did you have any problems with the rear seatbelts locking ? Mine have seem to lock and won't release after removing them from the package tray area
You can unscrew the seatbelt assembly and release it. It’s easy
@@TommyLGaragewhere do you unscrew having the same problem ):
What are your thoughts on the m performance suspension upgrade for the m2. I’m on the fence about pulling the trigger on it and have the dealer install it at port.
You’ll love them. Ability to adjust height is fantastic
What happened to your Quickjack why didn't you use it?
It was too short :(
Could you do a valve cover video?
I’ll be tackling a full engine rebuild first
Where did you get the instruction that you reference in the video?
Found it on a website. It was dealers manual.
Torque specs? Does h&R supply installation instructions and torque?
They do not
How long did this take you, minus doing the video recording part? Shop is quoting me 10 hrs but it seems more like a 5 hr job.
4-5 hours.
@@TommyLGarage Exactly what I thought. Thank you! I'll be doing this myself, unless someone brings me a much better quote.
@@colbyscott9822how much did the shop quote on just labor for those 10 hours?
Are these the same instructions for 2017 G30 Xdrive? Pls comment. Thank you
It should be very similar from what I was told
One more question. I am about to do the same job. Can you share the torque specs for all the bolts please? Thanks in advance.
How did it affect the ride quality? I have a set of the HR sport springs i havent installed yet. Ive heard it makes the ride harder.
No noticeable difference. Really liking it
@@TommyLGarage you have adaptive dampers?
I’m looking to get f90 but not sure how rough/stiff or soft competition Is compared to regular non comp? Does anyone have experience driving both? Are they that different?
Suspension is great on a competition.
I drive with 2 kids and am very happy. Zero comfort issues.
@@TommyLGarage thanks for your input, I also have a newborn and wanted to make sure it won’t be as harsh as my f85 is
Question: How many of those bolts that you take out are one-time use?
Non issue.
Great tutorial bro!
Thanks! Hope it helps a lot of people
Did the seat belts retract after? Or how did you get them to retract?
If you pull it put enough before removal you won’t have issues
@@TommyLGarage wish that was said in the video lol
@@vinniebarbone7219 you can disassemble the seat belt mechanism and retract it. It’s not that bad honestly. .
Why do you have to remove the rear liners?
Also @ 5:00 for previous M cars I installed spring on... I'm pretty sure I left the wish bone on and loosened the knuckle at the bottom of the strut and slipped it out.
To gain access to the strut. Otherwise you can’t remove it
Ah ok i ordered a set of M550i springs for my Comp. Hopefully the weather is nice this weekend.
Damn man thats a lot of removing. This is why i love old cars
But it’s worth it
WOW!! Mods already Tommy, great vid with the great detail as always.
Thanks! Had to get it done
