  • Hello Friends! I have been feeling not myself a lot this summer and have entirely lost my sew-jo, which is horrible because i have a big event and lots of photo shoots happening in like 2 weeks. Sigh. So, i decided that instead of doing nothing at all, i should try and do something, so I am procrastinating on my gown and started making other things that I will need for my trip! Come hang out while I make some silk pockets and a silk petticoat and have some chats! Then leave me a comment about how you are!

Everything you’re describing - not having motivation to do anything, but also not feeling sad or necessarily having other signs of depression - yeah that’s me. Most of the time. You’re not alone! Also love the doing what my brain wants not what I want to want.

September got fired because it was an awful month. 102 degree fever flu, my 10 year old rescue dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge during a hurricane when my home was without power and I had only a lantern to see by. I have no sew jo either and have six major projects to do for Christmas gifts. I am re-reading series that I love because I don't have the umph to read anything new. I am also re-watching The Great British Sewing Bee from the beginning to try to get a bit of jo back too. Glad you're checking in because it helps to remind us that "celebs" have real lives too.

Try Escape to Rural France. The chateau was destroyed in a fire in the 30s leaving only most of the walls standing. warning - it is another Brit.
Setting small achievable goals is a great way to ease back into getting (whatever ) jo functioning again. Good luck.

I caught covid twice, once with long covid symptoms that lasted in some form for roughly 9 months. I completely understand and empathize with the lack of motivation and extreme fatigue. Both were super not cool and (for me at least) the worst part of the experience. There's a kind of lingering brain fog/malise that just makes everything unsatisfactory and finding motivation for anything is a serious act of willpower.
I hope these smaller projects help and I'm rooting for you.

Love the Pethericks, very British lets try hitting it with a hammer style of restoration - I know, they are really skilled at what they do - while being so enthusiastic about the history of the place. If you like interesting stuff podcasts I can recommend Histories of the Unexpected, two adorable academics going off on tangents from the chosen topic. Way more fun that it might sound! All facts, all friendly and lots of knowledge. I'm mostly knitting at the moment so need plenty of good audio to keep me going as I unravel every other row because I always manage to lose count

Ah the Pethericks. When you said crack on, it suddenly dawned on me 😂 yup, following Billy and his family too. If you want truly relaxing videos, try to find Martijn Doolaard. He is a Dutch guy who bought a property in Italy in the mountains of the Dolomites and is renovating the place (of course😂) Puts out videos once a week of his progress. Really beautiful photography of the area and such. and I hope you will be making progress on your health.

If you like Martijin's stuff, have you looked into ateliermavi? They are a French/Italian couple that are rebuilding a stone house in Italy, not far from the sea on the French/Italian border. Be sure and turn on the CC because the narrative is in either French or Italian, depending on who is doing it.

Would you believe I watched the convent video directly before this one? Really, hahaha! His brother Michael is a brilliant creative and I love his channel as well (though he is way less active recently). I was a happy little paper crafter and card maker. Then stumbled upon fabric designer Tula Pink whose colors burst joy in my heart and soul, and I leaped from paper to fabric. How far did I jump? I bought a new sewing machine and am getting into quilting again after 40 years!! Modern tools make it so much easier and more precise. I hope your energy returns a bit more each day. I wish I could hang out with you watching videos together. Sending you so much love…. 🤗 ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷 (Tula is all about rainbows ☺️)

Afternoon, I finally got a space in my home for sewing/ crafting so that has helped. My Furbabies are my rock when I'm having a bad brain day. I'm about to get married in Sept 2024 and love to make my own wedding dress but due to personal reason I'm not able to, so I'm going to make my petticoat etc instead. I got over my heartbreak of 'Good Omens 2' and finally got a little sew-jo back! I made a bag that was a great first attempt! :) Very happy with that! But then my vertigo kicked my butt, so I'm taking a break, sitting still and trying not to over-do it. I binged all 4 season of 'The Good Place'. Just a happy show that makes me happy! Then I read 'The Midnight Library'! Super good and thought provoking book! Highly recommend! And now that 'Our Flag' is back, i will have more things to be happy about! Also 'Only Murders...' was amazing! Can't wait for season 4!
Other shows i'm excited for are 'Upload' season 3, 'Loki' season 2, 'Hilda' season 3, BBC 'Ghosts' series 5!!! All wonderfully weird, funny, heartwarming shows!

I am in such a similar state. I just recently got Covid for the first time and it's been sticking with me too. Like mentally and emotionally in mud. We're in a big ol' lame club with tons of members, I guess. Watching: the Bear, the Changeling, and Saving the Manor. The last one has two guys fixing up a Henry VII-era manor. awesome - more things to binge watch on youtube!! I have a horse channel that I watch and I don't love the person but I totally adore the way she trains her horses and what she does with them. It sucks to not be feeling like yourself, especially without *reason*. I've been having to work extra hard lately and that kind of bites but since I spent a few weeks kind of doing nothing, I can't complain. My boss is away for a month overseas and that puts an extra strain on me, so I've been being VERY gentle with myself. Also my boy cat caught a mouse this morning and that makes me both happy and anxious...

Chronic "stuff" (physical illness, mental illness, situational difficulties) can cause havoc on us, so knowing what helsp and trying more things that might help sounds like an excellent plan going forward. I'm glad you're getting your sew-jo back!
I was laid off at the beginning of this month, and just about at the point where i'd decided to take some time without working to gather myself together and a consulting opportunity through the end of the year presented itself, so I'm doing that. I'm not sure it's the best thing for me, except financially, but we'll see. It's contract, so I can always pull away if it all becomes too much.

Have just invested in 5 metres of wool tweed to make a coat with, plus cerise cotton to flatline it, cerise silk to line the sleeves with, and some striped lining for it. The wool is a herringbone pattern in raspberry and damson :)

I'm so sorry! I hope you feel better. I have struggled off and on with sew-jo too. I had long covid myself and a concussion and it took me a real minute to get back to myself. I appreciate you sharing your struggle.

Hello! Happy to see you sewing and chatting! Chronic procrastinator here, I have an annual studio tour ( im a visual artist) the 14/15 then a week later also heading for StLouis ball...thought it would be fun to hand paint the silk for my robe a l'anglais...it IS fun but geez, I actually still need to make it! Slightly stressed but always optimistic!

I have been watching french chateau restorations since 2017ish when I was home sick living in the US and found Chateau DIY (formerly "Escape to the Chateau DIY") on BBC, which is all about brits in France restoring castles. Tons of people from the show have youtube channels now (The Pethericks are one of them!) Others I like are: Chateau Diaries, and How to Renovate a Chateau (edited to add that I just got to this section of the video! I watch many of the channels and love "how to renovate a chateau"). A tangentially related channel is Escape to Rural France, and I've seen others mention it too! One where the people are also artists is Manor and Maker, Sara is a sewist and Steve is a painter and they're Canadian (like me!). I always felt the French Chateaux side of my youtube watching would never collide but here we are and I love it!

Totally understand lack of motivation. I have chronic fatigue from various sources. Have for years. I have only one piece of advice - give yourself grace. You can only do what you can do. Don't beat yourself up for having to rest.
Okay, two pieces - Don't over-schedule. Some days I feel lucky to accomplish one thing. Especially if it involves going out somewhere.
I am currently re-reading the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. It is written by a husband and wife team. I really enjoy their writing. They have several series to choose from.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

I'm sorry to hear you've been down lately. I hope your kitties are giving you a lot of love on days you don't want to get out of bed.
I am working on so many projects that I don't want to do any of them. One of the things I'm doing is all of the Burnley and Trowbridge sew alongs in order. So far, I've made two pockets, an under petticoat, and an over petticoat. Next on the list is an apron. It turns out I really like making petticoats. I'll probably wind up with 20 eventually.

I honestly just thought you had better things to do!
Long ago in a state far far away...a friend had a baby. She was the prefect little stash buster/"pallet cleanser"/quick project victim. Her mother and I shared a slightly warped sense of humor. Which just means she was down to put everything I ever made for that little munchkin on her at least once. There was a bright orange prison romper with a fake fur mullet wig (her mom is from Canada and introduced us to Trailer Park Boys), a denim "suit" with a flannel button down, and a Grateful Dead romper complete with fringe. There were actual wearable clothes too, but those are less fun to talk about. I do not want to think about how old she is now. But she is well past putting up with her mom's and my shenanigans! The simple little projects were a nice little break from the bigger projects.
I like the chattiness of your videos. You keep doing you chica! I’ll be over here not remarking the corset pattern piece I totally screwed up while one cat lies on whatever I am working on, another head butts me and drools on my pattern, and the final and most princessy lightly claws me in the butt asking for pets (not all at once, it’s more of a parade).

I have watched the Petherick's for years they started on their chateau first, its stunning. I'm looking forward to the double story library which will start next year at the convent . Billy's brother Michael has many talents, art, music, design, he is not vloging so much now but in the past he published a lot of vlogs. Michael is renovating the glass house at the chateau outside his cottage at the moment. Another quiet achiever is Billy and Michaels Dad he is not on the vlog often but if you spot him he is working hard driving a machine.
I'm learning to knit socks for my swollen feet, its been a learning curve to work with negative ease, sewing you add ease but socks need to stay on! Noelle i'm sorry you are feeling bad hope your doctor can solve it. hugs

To answer your question, emotionally I am okay, I spent the last few days grieving the missed goal of getting my Glinda Bubble dress done and now I am just really focused on enjoying spooky season costume making and working towards being kinder to myself about missed goals. I'm also happy to have a new Noelle video to watch

Noelle, I was so happy to see your smiling face this morning! You know, it doesn’t matter to me what you post or when…I am here for ALL of it, no matter what! ❤ I have not been making costumes at all. I may make a video about that for my channel. There are very few costume events in Alaska and I am not a Con person. So I have turned to quilts. It’s a great community of folks and the creativity is truly inspiring! I am challenging myself to try more and more difficult techniques! Plus, the greatest joy is making a giving a quilt to someone. It’s pretty darn special. So that’s what is up from me in my sewing room in Alaska! Love you! -Kelley❤
