    *Note: These benchmarks were done on my x99 Personal Rig but with a 6800K at stock settings rather than my 6900K at 4.2ghz which is why the numbers here are different from the last 1080Ti Showdown, these were both also done before I did the Creators update.
    Full System Specs can be found here: bit.ly/2buaaaj

      just a heads up on the ghost recons wildlands, one of the settings ( i cant remember which) are the reason for the poor fps, i think it was said that the top setting on one of the options made every fps no matter the card/bad, so to lower it one setting, just for future so you can hit the 150's on the 1080 res setting.

    Please don't say that there should be a lot of HEADROOM for overclocking due to a 20deg temperature difference. Lots of cards have minimal overclocking left. You MAY see boosts, but temperature is NOT a good indicator of what to expect.

    I just got the MSI 1080ti Gaming X, I was barely able to installed in my case, I'm glad I got that one since its a little shorter than the other, just the right size.

    I am in the process of getting one now - the thing that makes me lean towards the Gigabyte card is the 4 year warranty - had a with heat in the top of the line card - living in Queensland so that is my concern

      Aorus beats the ROG OC mate, the 2 best 1080Ti's are the ZOTAC AMP EXTREME and the Aorus.. The strix maybe 1-2 fps lower in certain games

    The difference in frame rate and performance seems to be barely 1% to the Gigabyte. And when it comes to noise the Gigabyte has a weird whistling sound along with the fan sound (thank you for recording it rather than just explaining). Plus the Gigabyte is 60 euro more expensive (in The Netherlands). Thus MSI wins for my next PC next month :D

  • @billymays489

    when you test fan speed you should do fan rpm instead of fan percentage. Different cards will have different fan rpm to percentage ratio.
    Just a thought.

    • @TechShowdown
      @TechShowdown  7 років тому +4

      Yeah it is a difficult thing but I do it by percentage to let people know how much extra fan speed they could use if they needed it.

    Really don't know how you could have a hard time deciding between the two. The Auros pitched a shutout in the benches, looks better, is slightly quieter and cheaper to buy. The MSI has too much red on it, is plastic, doesn't have as many features or as good software and is much more expensive. Easy choice for me.

    • @nlluke5207

    i got the none extreme for $999 and it's boosting in access of 2ghz with minimal voltage increase, although power is set to 150%. I also oc'ed the memory significantly to +220. Ive been playing Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus at 4k with ultra settings (several of the advanced settings only go to high regardless) and it rarely goes under 60fps. In other words the non-extreme can do exactly what the extreme can. I cant afford a ti so im satisfied with std Aorus 1080.

    :) You didn't mentioned another crucial fact about those cards, meaning that the MSI version it's noticeably shorter than the Aorus one allowing a better airflow especially on the smaller PC cases, cos it's not hoe it's working "now", but also for "how long" they will be enduring running at high temperatures., especially that the graphic cards are the most temperature sensitive and most of the times are failing without warning or when it's starting just like the cancer in humans it's too late already.

    It's silly to compare manufacturers in fps when the main criteria in this are the temperature, noise and build quality (the presence of the coil whine).
    This is only a comparison of frequencies, where, obviously, will be stronger than Aorus due to the increased base frequency.

    aren't the pascal cards voltage limited. so a crazy oc shouldn't be possible, around 2050 give and take. only positive effect should be not encountering a thermal throttling?

      Extreme 4k Gaming again impressive numbers. my first thought was, that the limiters would be lifted for a pascal refresh. it seem these are for rma concerns.. well according to a nv spokeperson. whatever the reason, hope your card won't die on you in the near future. cheers

    Right now on Newegg USA the difference with shipping is only $5 (The Aorus is the higher priced one at $750). BUT what the review didn't mention is that the Aorus offers a 4 year warranty vs 3 years for the MSI. So with slightly higher fps and a longer warranty, the Aorus was the more sensible choice for an extra $5. Mine arrives on Friday. Can't wait!!

      Thats retarded. Unless you're gonna buy used one and its really cheap, best would be from a trusted source like a close friend or something, buying new one is just stupid when there is new series already on the market.
      If you're aiming for such price range then why not buy a 2080 Super instead? New one will probably cost as much as new 1080 Ti, but the 2080s will be slightly better in the FPS alone and much better in handling the Ray Tracing in games and thats for the same price - A Win-Win choice.
      Generally GTX 10xx series are handling the Ray Tracing very badly, even tho they might not be so much weaker than the RTX's but yeah handling Ray Tracing on 1080 works worse than on 2060 (kinda understandable considering Ray Tracing is a RTX feature) and thats just a 2060. And if you're really going to spend so much money on a card then i see no reason to buy it if you're not gonna use such features like the Ray Tracing. It generally makes no sense to buy 80's series if you're not planning on playing 1440 or 4k with full ultra settings in new games i think we can all agree on that, right?

      And what did you expect lol? They are just cooling brands, buying MSI or Aorus GPU is paying extra for the look, slightly better base clocks and supposedly superior cooling, it was always like that. I just dont see the reason to make such a stupid comment. It kind of looks like you thought buying the Aorus or the MSI's Lightning series is like buying a better card. Well technically it is better, cause better cooling lets you clock it more, but apart from that and looks, there's no difference and why would there be ffs?

      Ill see if I have time but I do know it is consistent between runs so as a benchmark it is still solid for comparing GPU's.

    Gigabyte has a bit of bad rep in recent years, yet price-to-features they are unbeatable right now. The Gaming/Windforce can go as low as Pait in price and still have full 3 years warranty. Aorus are ALYWAS cheaper then Gaming X or Strix, and still have the same if not better performance.
    MSI is impressive in reviews, but if one factors in the price - they are overpriced, at least in Europe. And I mean noticeably - you can buy higher model of another brand instead for the same price (1060 3gb vs 6gb, 1080 vs 1080 Ti, RX 580 4gb vs 8gb, 570 vs 580, etc, etc)

    I've just had to return my Aurus...it's too bloody big for my case! It's 12 inches long man!.
    By the looks of it the MSI is shorter, possibly about 11 inches maybe?
    If you still have them could you measure it please?

  • @YourCRTube

    MSI Gaming X is never cheaper then a Gigabyte. They have ARMOR for that, but then the Gigabyte is better.

  • @RuffPlay

    Honestly, all these cards boost different. Even within the same branding so milage will vary. I have the Gaming X Ti and I've already seen it hit 2100 mhz on it's own without Afterburner. But others have stated their cards only hit 2025 mhz. So it's all a lottery, you'll get whatever you get.

    • @RuffPlay
      @RuffPlay 7 років тому

      I will say a buddy of mine bought the EVGA Black Edition ti. That card runs HOT... 85 degrees with a maximum 1850 Boost. I say "Buyer Beware", that's awful.

    • @RuffPlay
      @RuffPlay 7 років тому

      I admit it's not the best, but he does have two in 140mm passing to two out 140mm. My Gaming X sits at 62c under full load benchmarks. I rarely see it out of the 50's under Wildlands.

    Well sadly all the 1080ti comparisons are null and void basically because it silicon lottery with Pascal. You can a founders that will overclock better than a $770 Evga FTW3. In aftermarket it about noise and temps and they are all within a couple of % on both. So It basically buy what looks nice to you and hope Silicon gods bestow upon your chip.

    • @overclockedamd123

      I have seen people on overclock.net pushing 2100 rock solid on MSI and not getting 1925 barely stable on the Aorus and vise versa.

    • @_Daio_
      @_Daio_ 7 років тому

      My Aorus hit's 2025 without me touching it so i'm sure i could get 2100.(Not 100% sure but more than likely)

    Only issue with the MSI Gtx 1080ti is that it is bulky and will most likely sag. Still that doesn't throw me off from purchasing one

    • @KingChristo
      @KingChristo 7 років тому

      RetireVFX 10:48 auros is bulkier.

    • @elhijueputa8423
      @elhijueputa8423 7 років тому

      I have the MSI Gaming X 1080ti and it does not sag at all. It actually has a lot more screws that retains the backplate to the heatsink to avoid sag. the STRIX has a lot of sag and I would imagine the AORUS Xtreme would have more sag due to it being heavier but I can tell you that the MSI does not have any noticeable sag.

      ElteeMullet thats true. Unless you have a red build, gaming x will NOT look good. Thats one of the reasons I like the Msi Seahawk X 1080ti.

    None could get a constant 60 fps or more on all tests. I guess we have a long way to go before we can game at 100 plus fps in all 4k games. Not so powerful in my opinion.
