    You guys do realise that its called the MSI gtx 1080ti GAMING X for a reason right? Its supposed to match the msi z97 gaming x motherboards thats why its red and black it takes like 5 seconds to ask before bitching

    Dude this length of review is totally OK with me.
    We already know how fast a 1080ti is in general and actually it is only interesting what the cooler is doing to it and you totally showed that. The only thing that I was missing, do 2 minutes on the overclocking, then it would be perfect.

      Or something even better : MSI, give us the CAD model for the shroud so we can 3Dprint one in any color or material we want (colored ABS, clear polycarbonate). Zero additional cost for you MSI, think about it !

    Might want to reconsider that video title TTL!
    Seems many people think your going to do a review of a 'mini version' of a the card instead of a 'mini-review' of the standard card!

    Just got one of these. Goes well with my motherboard's black and red color scheme (Gigabyte X99 Gaming G1 Wifi). Enjoying the performance gains over my old 980. I got this one for the colors, the quietness of the cooler, and because it specifically has the DVI port, as adapters that can do 1440p/60fps are expensive (one of my two 1440p monitors only has DVI, the other is only DisplayPort). Thanks to the 2 HDMI slots, it's nice being able to have my Rift connected and have the option to not use my HDMI/DisplayPort adapter for my TV / 3rd monitor if I ever need that second DisplayPort slot for something else.

    Great video :)
    The material on top of the capacitors is not a thermal pad, it's rubber. It is likely there to stop the heatsink coming into contact with them.
    EDIT: the little components next to the voltage regulators are doublers. They allow two regulators to be driven from one controller channel.

    The silver MSI cards are called Quicksilver. The 1070 Quicksilver is about the prettiest card I know of in existence... 'cept maybe the KFA2/GALAX HOF cards with the white PCBs

  • @Deilwynna
    @Deilwynna 7 років тому

    the small chips the white thermal pad/-s cool are called doublers or quadruplers, takes the pwm signal from the power chip and splits it up to the mosfets
    this card is a 8+2 mosfet design but with the doublers, it has 16+2 phases, 16 for the vcore and 2 for the memory

  • @TheBlackIdentety
    @TheBlackIdentety 7 років тому

    9:02 Those are the driver ICs for the phases. There are 8 of them in total which means the card has a true 8 phase design.

    This card exhibited the strangest behavior in my system. It would throttle down in power level whenever I overclocked. It would drop to 40% power level and the framerate would plummet. Returned it for a founders edition and just water cooled it. Too bad, my msi 1070 was great. Keep in mind, if your case has poor airflow it will get hot FAST, and heat up the rest of your components. In my nzxt s340 it got to 75 degrees...took the side panel off and temps wen sub 60.

    almost twice as noisy a 1080ti but then it draws so much power also.

    Tom I have been Begging MSI for over 5 Years to dump the over Powering RED it is a problem when you build for some one because there is always at-least one part MSI always makes sure its red unless you paint it and make it look like shit and who wants a brand new 700+ GPU to have half ass paint job on a high end Video card...........I sent them in an email 3 diff times and sent it to them on the website builders channel (new name now idk i gave up on them after 3rd year in row with no reply) Anyway I showed them a GPU with all the parts in red all in a smoked black Plastic that would allow RGB lights to show through and in this way you could Customize Every MSI Card to fit ANY color theme Build and MSI would not be loosing Customers like they have been over the past few years because the #1 complaint from Builders and Reviewers is........LOOSE THE RED or give other options and more or less MSI said NO and now they are paying for their arrogance with loss in sales! Tom I even showed 3 other Concepts they could Use ...One is to make those RED Stripes Not permanently fixed and Pop out and be replaceable with clear or maybe even colors you buy from MSI or what not.....I have take Taken the Current 1060,1070,1080 and I have a 1080Ti Gaming X like yours on my Bench now....anyway I took the others apart and CUT out all the RED sections and RE Cut new ones with a Laser Cutter in a few Different Acrylics to make them color build friendly!! Once people see them and see an MSI card in Blue or Gold or Green my Phone & Email wont stop blowing up with requests to do there card or comp too.
    Tom MSI is so clueless on this I have a 4 month back order I cant find enough time to do and most want to pay me up front and I tell them NO i only take Money After I am done in case they dont like it but I send them Pics half way through and now that I have a buddy who does Hydro Dipping too ....Gee I wonder where MSI got the all Camo Idea from ...hmmmm ... Oh wait I sent them pics of 2 GPU's, A Mobo, Radiators and Fans all in Camo we Hydro Dipped and NEVER HEARD back from MSI.....I have the Emails dated 14+ months ago. .......Anyway Tom .....Get on them they Only Listen to Reviewers I guess.......They are getting as bad as NZXT!!

I paid extra for the Joy of searching around in the BIOS and graphics settings to turn this off. If i find the guy responsible for this stuff ill go and tie bis fridge together with several blinking ropes which he has to fiddle away before he can use it again. And then ill charge him a few € for the ropes.

      Like when people said wait for Zen? Lol how long will it be for AMD to actually be better instead of just competing with some trade offs?

      Kvlt Ov Freki don't be a party pooper. Just wait for vega

      I mean I have a 380 so I am not beyond saying AMD can be good, but realistically they shouldn't be aiming to be competitive, the should aim for decimation with Vega, but even then I doubt that but I remain optimistic.

    Over the weekend, the price on the MSI and EVGA 1080 ti cards jumped by $150 US on the Newegg site. I guess I am waiting until supply catches up with demand.

    Lol you say about DVI dying, that's DVI-D anyway so even if you wanted to, you couldn't get analog out of it without an adapter :P

    This is the strongest GTX 1080ti like I don't even know why they call it a 1080ti its more like a 1090ti lmao....it gets 15-20fps more than the other 1080ti... thanks JayztwoCents for the lovely comparison and benchmarks! btw stronger than the 2080! "thank AMD for that"

    idk, I really think a lot of reviewers are underestimating the 1080p market. Especially with the popularity of shooters and the popularity of 120hz or higher in shooters and even the best cards struggling to maintain 120hz or 144hz at 1440p. And even if they can run at 1440p with 120hz, the life of that $800 card is going to be extremely short before it dips below 120hz on new games. I know plenty of people that have GTX 1080s at 1080p.

    The black and red is the only reason I don't buy MSI GPUs. They would be my go to if they werent red. It is a nice looking card otherwise, but I just dont care for red at all.

    Nice you covered the "warranty void if removed" sticker but it depends on where you are from i think. My retail store doesn't do RMA if the sticker is broken and they say that MSI returns it and doesn't give warranty.
