    I like how the whole scene on Endor with Vader and Luke. You could just feel the conflict, and confusion in Vader. Especially the silent moment Vader has by himself after the troopers took Luke away. That is how a great story is told. Good job to everyone who was involved in that scene.

      If they had this more civilized confrontation before their fight on Bespin in the movie before, perhaps they could have arrived at some sort of mutual agreement. Luke would be more then willing to fight along side his father and even rule a newly reformed empire but not as a sith beside Darth Vader.

    Jesus man vaders look to Luke then to palpatine then to Luke again man that scene just sends something to me it’s just a powerful scene. Lol never thought people would see this,, but I said this cause I felt Vader was having flashbacks of jus who he truly was and him looking back and forth was the choosing of Vader or Anakin for him, Luke was his only link to “Anakin” his good side or whatever fucked up fantasy he was goin thru, but whatever it was it got to him and anakin came back in my eyes ig or I’m sure that’s how it is.

      Lol it's really janky and cheesy. Like how he rears back before going to grab the emperor. No body does that. Powerful was never something that has ever crossed my mind while watching that scene. That entire movie needs reshot. Darth Vader who is supposedly the biggest badass around walks like a grandpa and clan only swing his lightsaber back and forth like a robot because of the limitations of the costume. I could have beat return of the jedi Darth Vader in a lightsaber battle. I wish George Lucas would have been able to make the original star wars trilogy with today's technology. That ending scene in rouge one is the only piece of footage we have of Darth Vader actually being badass on the movie side of things.

    Vader saved Luke for one reason. Despite all the self loathing, and the hate and anger that had taken over his life, the reason he saved Luke was explained by King Osric, from the 1982 Conan. "There comes a time, thief, when the jewels cease to sparkle, when the gold loses its luster, when the throne room becomes a prison, and all that is left is a father's love for his child."

    Vader was in desperate need of repairs when Luke cut his hand off. He was gonna be fine, albeit a bit worse for wear - but he still needed to get to the repair bays in timely manner. But THEN, Palpatine started torturing his son to death (which is kind of ironic, seeing how it was the decision for Palpatine to demonstrate his power and might here that ultimately sealed his fate.) And that made Anakin Skywalker almost INSTANTLY claw his way out of the grave, ready to THROW DOWN against the Emperor (“instantly” is subjective here; considering how long and how deeply Anakin had been buried alive within the consciousness of Darth Vader.) But Anakin FINALLY came back; and he no longer cared about how dangerous or grievous the situation would be for him and his armor if he got too close to Palpatine and his lightning. He TOOK Palpatine by the robes, lightning and all, and THREW DOWN his TRUE enemy. He TOOK the wounds that would decidedly kill him, and he did it for his SON. And THAT, right there, is beautiful. Cause he no longer felt hatred, he felt only a father’s love for his children - and threw down his life in defense of them accordingly. In this ONE final act of his life, he had atoned for decades of allowing the Dark Side to twist his mind and heart. He’d also FINALLY fulfilled the prophecy of his own life, and brought balance to the Force. Isn’t that just straight up EPIC?

    Honestly, I never thought Vader hated Luke. From my point of view, he wanted Luke to help him destroy Palpatine but since he refused I believe Vader was trying to protect Luke by hiding his feelings for him so that Palpatine would not sense his love for his son. I don't think he ever wanted to kill Luke, he was just trying to cover his intentions and fool Palpatine. If Vader really wanted to get rid of Luke it would have been very easy since Luke did not have any experience and had been trying for a very short time.

    I think this video just answered my question as to why Vader became submissive to his master by the time of ROTJ.
    After events ROTS, the sad tragedy that only solidified Vader’s reasoning for staying with his master was because he had nothing left to go back to. Hence the reason why he tried to burry his past.
    After ANH, he discovered he had a son and that Sidious had deceived him about his wife’s death which only resurrected his past.
    For this reason he plot to kill his master and intended to turn his son to help him overthrow the Emperor however Luke rejected the Dark Side and him.
    Because of this by the time of ROTJ, the only thing Vader had left yet again was just his master but it was even worse for him now emotionally.
    This explains why Vader gave up trying to kill his master and why he was so conflicted in Ep 6.

  • @Paradise2003
    @Paradise2003 4 роки тому +22

    I don’t think he hated him at all. I’ve always felt the reason ep4 was called a new hope was in part bc Luke signified a new hope for Vader. Learning he had a living child reignited his hope for a family and to rule the empire one day.
    Not to mention, he NEVER called Luke Anakin’s son(as palpatine did and Vader pretender to feel the same) Vader always considered Luke *his* son bc he wanted Luke. That is not hate

  • @collegebro85
    @collegebro85 5 років тому +15

    Whether it is considered canon or not, I always thought the plot from Force Unleashed showed Vader’s true feelings the best. Yes, he was conflicted about being loyal and pretty much lied to by Sidious, as he was promised to keep Padme from dying, but that never happened. For years after, and was shown in ROTS, Vader felt he could rule the galaxy himself and didn’t need the Emperor, but with his new mechanical body he needed a proper Padawan to successfully take down the Emperor. Plus, he wanted to replace what he lost...and then he found his own son, whom he refused to ever kill. He could have owned Luke in ESB, but he held back and tried repeatedly to recruit him for himself...not for the Emperor. Vader never truly turned as he always held onto the love for his mom and his own family, and when he saw that very thing being slowly killed by the man he had trusted for almost all his life, that was enough reason to sacrifice himself in the end. Love is what caused him to turn to the dark side and ironically turn back to the light!

    When you said that Vader looked at Luke as a reminder of everything he loved, how he could see through Luke a way to save his son, a way to save Anakin, a way to save Padme...that's just beautiful. That was all Anakin ever really wanted, was to save those he loved, and seeing his moment to kill the Emperor and taking it when he did, it was all wrapped up wonderfully in that scene. Anakin finally got the resolution he so desperately wanted and needed by turning back to the light. :')

    Vader did not hate Luke. I think he was intrigued by him. I showed the scene from The Empire Strikes Back to students. All the footage in the fight before Vader announces that he is Luke’s father is a compressed version of how fathers and children interact. I think the fight was enjoyable for Vader because he gets a chance to find out just how formidable his smaller brave son could be. I believe he was disappointed when Luke wouldn’t join him. But hate him no. The lilting delicate way he tries to get him to join him when he speaks to him through the force once he has returned to The Millennium Falcon is very revealing. The beautiful intonations of James Earl Jones’ voice drew Luke to the ship’s controls. When the hyperdrive kicks in, the physical address When Vader fails he walks off the bridge more again disappointed than malevolent. So distracted that he did not kill any bridge officers.

      Well, in EU and other media, it's harder to use the Force directly on another Force-user than it is a non-Force-user. Trying to choke another Jedi or Sith--you might be able to get in a surprise shove, etc, but it's harder because it's their own body, not just an object, that you're manipulating.

    not anything as you describe remember in the book of episode III revenge of the sith. obi talks to yoda and windu about how anakin is loyol to the individual he shows loyalty to someone and expects the same loyalty be returned. he also shows this many times in the clone wars series. as well as the prequels. Now what was Anakins primary motivation for becoming a sith lord? to save his wife and children.
    now when return of the jedi happens there is the emperor blasting luke with lightning. thats all thats needed for vader to come back to the light because anakin is loyal to the individual ie his son.

    Anakin lived such a tragic life. In my opinion he was constantly tortured by a-hole idealogues his whole life. First it was the pacifist and emotionless jedi who wouldn't let him come to peace with his upbringing or let him take healthy action to help his mother and put that internal struggle aside. Next it was Sidious who honestly was just using him the whole time as a power grab tool in case he himself died or something else went awry with the empire, but threw him away as soon as Luke came along. Comparing him to Revan, Revan was proactive, calculating, and cunning in his actions to save everyone and eliminate the true threat of Vitiate; to this end he chose the dark side, but consciously made sure it never completely took him. Anakin was required to be a reactionary bystander who was forced to stuff his feelings away by everyone around him. Truly sad.

    This is an interesting interpretation of Vader. In this view of things, every day he was with the Empire, Anakin/Vader knew that what he was doing was wrong. He knew he shouldn't be doing these things. But to bury that, to suppress that, he did more and more work, trying to ensure that he was so busy that he'd never have to think about the fact that all of it was wrong. He could tell himself that he never had a choice, that there was no other path open to him. But Luke... Luke ruins all of that. Luke is a reminder that there was a time when he could do the right thing, that he did do the right thing. For a long time, Vader believed that Luke was a fool for rejecting him, for continuing the hopeless fight against the Empire. Only towards the end, when he saw Luke resist the Dark Side and nearly get himself killed for Vader, did Vader realize that he had been the fool all along.

  • @rienjen
    @rienjen 3 роки тому +2

    I couldn't agree less. Vader was obsessed with finding Luke in ESB and just as obsessed in ROTJ, and only DIDN'T search him out because the Emperor had foreseen that Luke would come to him. If he hated Luke in ROTJ, he wouldn't have desperately been trying to find him. I guess this new version of ROTJ came out of Disney canon, right?
    Vader tried to bury Anakin and the light-side after Padme's death because there was nothing, at that point, to bring him back to the light. Once he found out about Luke...the dark-side in him obsessed because of Luke's potential, but deep-down, Vader was truly obsessed because it was like being in an abyss and suddenly seeing something that could pull you out of it. He loved Luke. He was twisted and consumed with the dark-side, but he never hated his son. That's just...is it all right to laugh? Please...

    I think the glass would have actually broke if Boba Fett learned of Luke name and overheard Luke talking to Princess Leia through a hologram saying something like along the lines of being twins or brother and sister, then when he reported to Vader after failing capturing Luke like before, then Vader would no doubt try to capture both of them and fail to turn them to the dark side.

The guy says he killed padme yet she was gonna die in childbirth ? Not to mention seeing Luke meant he missed out on all this time w/ his son. Also how did Vader feel hearing the gut he served wanted discard him ?? For his son! I guess palps wanted to trade up for youth & strength. In watching u see Vader def is proud of Luke. He really does compliment him a lot & he is obsessed w/ finding him. Then again wouldn't u be if u were Vader. He wants Luke to turn b/c it's 20 years of killing & being dark killing all the jedis etc.

    They hardly conversed in a civilized fashion. The first time we get a nugget of time where we see Vader with Luke discussing things and not trying to murder each other was on Endor when he turns himself in. Of course Luke would decline his offer in Empire Strikes Back. He just had his arm chopped off by the guy offering. I think if Luke and Vader gave each other some explaining time to talk before going into war mode, Luke may have been able to suggest to Vader that he would join his father and not Vader possibly giving Vader more of a reason to let the light side of the force back into his life. It was the strict ways of the Jedi Console that ultimately led Anakin to this state. The twp of them could start their new empire over throwing Palpatine and starting a new order for force users. Somewhere in the middle between light and dark. Luke just wasnt prepared to join Vader and become the next Pawn for the sith.
