GENERALLY speaking, IVC filters can sometimes be removed and are sometimes left in place indefinitely. If you are concerned the best thing for you to do would be to consult with a vascular specialist and sooner is better than later (because in anyone taking filters out becomes less likely as time goes by). I know this is 9 years out. So perhaps our reply is not relevant anymore. However, whether to remove an IVC filter or keep it in place is a complicated decision. I would recommend a consultation with a vascular doctor. Preferably, I would suggest a consultation with someone with specific expertise in IVC filters.

I had one put in back in May 2013 and was told that it's never being removed. Should I be concerned?
