My husband works at a vinyl record pressing plant. He put this song on the turntable after work-first I'd ever heard it, or of American Aquarium... Halfway through the song, I couldn't finish the dishes. Dried my hands and snuck to the bedroom, trying to hide I was in tears. Found the video online, put the earbuds in and sat frozen; mesmerized, taking in this...thing...that this band captured in this song and video... Zeigeist? Nostalgia? Requiem? Lament? These words don't completely capture whatever bowled me over. If ever there was a song that is more than the sum of its parts "Me & Mine" is exactly it. The song, BJ's voice, the lyrics and the visuals in the video blew me away like no other song I can remember. Anyway, I played the song several times, just letting the tears roll silently until the husband found me like that 30 minutes later. Not much makes me cry. And, in my life, I don't recall a song moving me to tears. Since then, been a rabid fan of American Aquarium's body of work. I hope the band can revive their North Carolina roots with the type of agriculture this country sure could use, and sure as hell would appreciate... 😘 Epilogue: Husband shocked me a week or so ago, coming home with our copy of this album autographed by BJ himself, who dropped in at the record plant where my husband works!! He got photos with BJ, too. I don't think I have to tell you... Cried my eyes out. Best surprise gift ever...
This is the first ever American Aquarium song I heard - live - this week as they were warming up for Drive by Truckers.... without a doubt this was the best song of the night (by either band !) and frankly, I thought AA were better than DBT that night. Great voice and such a meaningful song.
@@jbthebrit ...Aren't they incredible? I'll have to see if they're coming to perform in Dallas sometime soon because-well-your mention of getting to see AA perform has got me itching for that experience, too! I am so glad you were introduced to American Aquarium through "Me & Mine!" Same way I did! Ah, serendipity! Jeremy, do you mind sharing where you saw AA opening for DBT? I mean, super-generally, like which state (i.e., Texas, North Carolina, etc.) 100% agree with you...very meaningful song... :)
@@jbthebrit i saw them open up for the Truckers as well and i thought they were better. Apples and Oranges, ya know? Maybe not fair to compare, but AA is more in my wheelhouse. Great band
It's real hard to make it in a small town, a factory closes down... your out of work. Thank you for this. We ARE the backbone of this country, the actual working men and women of this country. We live pay check to pay check, chasing the dream, a home you love, kids raised right, and chickens, God bless those little hens🙂 thank you for this, beautiful, and truth
BJ Barham is amazing. I started following along with AA about a year ago, and slowly learned who BJ actually was. To say he's been an inspiration to me would be an understatement. This guy gets it.
One of the greatest songwriters Ive ever heard. The amount of emotion in this song gives me the goosebumps. Plus that CLASSIC AA breakdown at the end. Fuck, guys. Great job.
excellent songwriting - I don't usually comment on what I hear but this drew me in - felt every word you sang and wrote - it feels so relevant to all of America and all Americans - you are gifted as a writer and performer
That ending montage is like getting sucked down a narrow dark rabbit hole, just to end up scratching and digging for the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like I came out a changed man !0!
Wow! Coming from a small dying town I can relate to battling the thoughts of whether to go back home or create a better life elsewhere. The question of “what is a better life” comes to mind every time. What an illustration of that struggle with this song+video collaboration. Well done AA, been with you guys since 2011!
I believe the powerful potential of the American Dream is alive and well even if it does not look the same as it used to. That notwithstanding, this is some of the finest song writing I have ever encountered. This man can write, and his voice perfectly compliments his revelatory lyricism.
This hit hard. Theirs plenty of hokey country songs about the small town we all grew up in but far too few songs about how those places have basically turned into a 3rd world country.
Bj idk how you do what you do but you sir. Your great man you will live forever threw the songs you sing. PLEASE come back to cincinnati . iv been to EVERY show you have done here. And never been disappointed. Even when they moved you to a different time and we missed it still wasn't disappointed because I got to meet you and shake your hand. Thank you for being a genuine good person.
Extremely powerful song and video. The montage at the end reminded me of the opening sequence to the True blood TV series but powerful just the same!! Great job!
Thank you guys for this. Everything about your band is absolutely amazing; great deep voice, words like knives but damn true. The last part of the video was awesome. Hope to see you playing somewhere

West Virgina boy says "Amen" sister.
Met BJ last weekend and he's the most down to earth dude. American Aquarium is the real deal. Fan for life!

I saw these guys open up for the Drive by Truckers. Amazing show. Great song.
Truly a song for our times.
Hit the nail on the head with this song. Awesome work man
This song just gave me goosebumps and made my eyes water. That's all you need to know about how good this band is.

THIS is the song we need at the time we need it. Well done.
Video of the year. Song of the year, Artist of the year. Powerful.

This is one of the best songs I've heard in a long, long time.

Your're right, Bruce. Songwriting, music, video... wowww !
Jason Isbell would like a word with you but BJ Barham is definitely at the table
That ending montage is like getting sucked down a narrow dark rabbit hole, just to end up scratching and digging for the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like I came out a changed man !0!
Samson Harris so true! I don’t usually pay attention to the meaning of most images, but this one montage left me breathless
Yeah just in awe
Well said.
Felt this in Arkansas all the way from North Carolina.
My wife just sent me this.. I cannot put into words exactly how on point this is right now...
I love this song i litsen it from Chile
Perfect timing with this one BJ.
Wow. They knocked this one out of the park.

Wow. First song ever from these guys. Just grabbed my soul.
If you get the chance go see them live. Top class. And BJ has always time for a chat or photo after the gig
This song is just soo good. I can't stop listening to it.

This album is a masterpiece!
The pianist at the end of the song is amazing
This hit hard. Theirs plenty of hokey country songs about the small town we all grew up in but far too few songs about how those places have basically turned into a 3rd world country.
Becoming my favorite band with every song I hear.
Just learned of you. Yes, I have been under a rock!...lol....Subed and belled. WOW!!
Heard BJ play the entire album and it is one great song after another.

That's mindblowing and, sadly, so true. An epic and much needed song, thank you!

Shew Buddy. This is timely and incredible. Thanks BJ
Simply f'n amazing
Worlds turning and I hope I don’t turn away...
Damn. Hell of a song, BJ.
The ending reminds me so much of the music video for Pink Floyd’s Money. Probably my new favorite AA music video. So excited for this new album.
Damn spot on. Truth. solid lyrics. Great music.
Awesome my friend!!! Damn! You & Jason Isbell can write some songs!!!!
Oh My God!! Amazing.
Damn...my son sends me the best music.

Thank you guys for this. Everything about your band is absolutely amazing; great deep voice, words like knives but damn true. The last part of the video was awesome. Hope to see you playing somewhere
A sprinkle of Springsteen and cloud of Diamond dust is a combustible combination sending a plume of reverence into the ether...
Helluva song! Your writing just keeps getting better
Fuck me. This was fantastic. Holy cow, THANK YOU for this... everything about it, just, everything. Thank you.
Great song...
Holy moly, that knocked me for 6. The passion in his singing, amazing. Incredible video.
Great song and video, relevant to the current state of things!
Class. Pure Class
che bella voce
Whoa! Sooooo dang good! Looking forward to this album... like always when AA is involved. :)
A sprinkle of Springsteen and a dusting of Diamond yields a perfect patina to the rusted yearnings of yore...
Look up the lineup for Moon River festival in Chattanooga
I’m fired up !!!
Absolutely love this 😊👍
Keep it coming. Love it ♥
Impossibly good. If this isn't song of the year it will validate how broken the industry is.
Now this is country music
So damn good
Masterpiece! BJ takes his writing to an elite level, and he was damn good before!
7:03 "ight, Imma head out"
America's new national anthem.
Thanks for making this because my uncle died
Oh damn
DAMN
Oh man this is great. Who did the video BJ? Excellent work.
"... and then a politician shows up promising them jobs that God himself cannot bring back ... " Yup, he gets it. The whole track ... Excellent!
And the wise man said the town was a victim of times!
Truth
The key to America is learning when to leave a sinking ship except the elephant in the room is that the whole country is over half way under water.
That’s a son there!! Holy ...
wow
Hey,God never leaves,He is always there.Great song none-the-less.
That wasn't Goodbye was it?
No war but class war. The working class must unite to take back their wage labor and their control.
I'm very curious why you guys chose the name American Aquarium ?
First line of the Wilco song, "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart."
@@jeffhoyle5785 I am an American Aquarium drinker... 👍
I think you may have a future at this BJ 😏
