I walked away from alcohol Jun 9th 2019. Not a single day goes by that I don't think about having a drink.. The struggle never stops for those of us who don't have an "off" switch. So many of the lines in this song really hit home if you too are struggling.. it defiantly helps me to hear I'm not alone on the rough days. Great song, thank you for sharing your struggle!!!
@@mnieder5300It actually got way worse there for awhile, ended up having three hernia surgeries from all the weight gain. But I officially quit May 9, 2023, not s drop since then. Thank you actually for asking.
Before sitting down and watching this music video, I always took this song more morbidly. I always took it as he was drunk driving with his wife and his daughter in his car and they passed following an accident with another vehicle. I’m glad that’s not the basis of the song, but I wanted to share my song experience.
Lyrics because you have to sing along: I got a picture of you holdin' a Picture of her taped to the dash of my car I see it every time I check my speed or run it to the grocery store The two of you were the only thing in life worth fightin' for But since you've been gone a I ain't been much for fightin' anymore These days things don't come easy It's all I can do at most just to keep it between the lines If I'd have done a better job of listenin' Baby you would still be mine I ain't had a drop to drink since the day that you left me Six years come September I've been cursed with this clarity I stare in the mirror yellin' at a stranger lookin' back on me And the ghost of the man I could've been still haunts all my dreams These days things don't come easy It's all I can do at most just to keep it between the lines If I'd have done a better job of listenin' Maybe you would still be mine Foolish pride wouldn't let me give you the keys to the oldsmobile No way in hell I should've let myself get behind that wheel I was drunk, it was dark, and I didn't see him comin' over that hill I regretted it then, I regret it now, I guess I always will These days things don't come easy It's all I can do at most just to keep it between the lines If I'd have done a better job of listenin' The two of you would still be mine I got a picture of you holdin' a Picture of her taped to the dash of my car
sober 8 months I pulled a buthcer knife and took it to my neck and my wife took it from me it was the Holy Spirit for I became totally weak needless to say I got charges but I lived now I am free and sober thank you Jesus words can not explain what He has done for me in this life
This is one of my favorites and imo the best bridges I’ve ever heard. You really captured something powerful here BJ. Wow. Loving everything off of the new album so far. Very excited for How Wicked I Was after hearing it on IGTV the other night!
Nine times out of ten, I strongly disagree when someonmention anyone in the same sentence as Jason Isbell. This is not one of those times. I’ll admit I’ve only heard two songs, but if what I’ve heard here & on Me + Mine are the norm, I’d say BJ more than deserves a place among those who are often mentioned as the greatest songwriters of the current day.
This song deserves way more publicity than 26K views. Incredible

Lamentations is already a true classic. Yes, classic albums even now sometimes appear.

As a struggling off and on achoholic, this song hits seriously deep. This is what country is supposed to do, talk about the actual struggles of life.
Preach brotha. Hope you're doing well.
Been great actually, hope the same for you.
How ya doing with your struggle? I see it's been 3 years.....

The best to you and yours. I know that liquid hell well...love hate relationship with it.
This is one of the saddest songs I have heard in a long time. Right in the feels.

Spotify’s algorithm brought me here. Thanks I love this track and I’m now a fan.
Lyrics because you have to sing along:
I got a picture of you holdin' a
Picture of her taped to the dash of my car
I see it every time I check my speed or run it to the grocery store
The two of you were the only thing in life worth fightin' for
But since you've been gone a I ain't been much for fightin' anymore
These days things don't come easy
It's all I can do at most just to keep it between the lines
If I'd have done a better job of listenin'
Baby you would still be mine
I ain't had a drop to drink since the day that you left me
Six years come September I've been cursed with this clarity
I stare in the mirror yellin' at a stranger lookin' back on me
And the ghost of the man I could've been still haunts all my dreams
These days things don't come easy
It's all I can do at most just to keep it between the lines
If I'd have done a better job of listenin'
Maybe you would still be mine
Foolish pride wouldn't let me give you the keys to the oldsmobile
No way in hell I should've let myself get behind that wheel
I was drunk, it was dark, and I didn't see him comin' over that hill
I regretted it then, I regret it now, I guess I always will
These days things don't come easy
It's all I can do at most just to keep it between the lines
If I'd have done a better job of listenin'
The two of you would still be mine
I got a picture of you holdin' a
Picture of her taped to the dash of my car
Heavy Springsteen vibe on this tune. Love it.
My thoughts exactly
Wow. What a tragic song. Really pulls at the heart strings. I’m really excited for the new album. Love American Aquarium!

B.J. speaks to me. Can't wait to hear him again. Keep spreading the truth.
Love you dude.
BJ is great, great song, saw him live in Charlotte, N C two years ago. Burn Flicker is the only CD I listen to know.
Wow. I don't even have words for how this makes me feel. Just epic songwriting, like few others have made me feel. Thank you, BJ.
That's what I keep saying about all of his (their) songs I've heard this past week! Just discovered them...and....WOW!! Hits the heart hard!

Been 4 years sober from alcohol, now I wish I could stay sober from weed.

About 2:30 in that was a punch to the gut. Wasn't expecting that.
Is it bad that I can relate to this song at 19 years old

Goddamn that's one fine song.
This is a sad fucking song but it’s beautiful and real.
How tragic!
I love the song but I wish the audio for the video matched the visual of just you with your acoustic guitar
I like everything about this song except being sober! Rehab is for Quitters!
isbell, barham, and countless others would disagree.
then you truly don’t understand the song...
