  • This was a viewer request & I hadn't previously heard of it so bought one in. Anyway, it turns out to be another one of those with a secret service menu, and I was able to work out how to get into it & how to set things when in the service menu.
After adjustment I ended up with a set doing 4W & 2.2khz deviation suitable for the UK band, which is the only band any of our customers want to use, as CEPT band is too full of interference to be of any use here in Lincolnshire, UK
The next video will be an 'on the air' test with Mr Chippie.
Thanks to 'Electric Man', for an arranged roger, seeing as he & his family are having a bit of a camping holiday 1/2 mile up the road from here.

Well done finding the elusive service menu. It actually seems like a nice little radio and very compact

I have had one of these a few weeks now and have struggled to understand the menus as the basic ones available through the F key allowed no significant changes to get it on frequency. Thanks to you I now have all I need to get it checked and sorted. Ideal size for a car as a basic CB and with a tiny mag mount antenna will hopefully not attract the attention of the light fingered. Thank you.

    Good stuff, keep it up!
Checked over one of my power supplies today. So much wrong with it, all fixed now though. The worst was the live going straight to the fuse holder. Not only this, it went to the panel end, making the easily touchable threaded part live, which you’d then have to pass the fuse over! Positively lethal.

Purchased one of these a while ago when they first came out and have it in my campervan and it's been a great little radio and still working well and you can turn up the power to around 10 watts with these. I find it great for mobile because of it's size and has been a very reliable little radio.

Well their 8W turned out to be 6 real watts when I went through the service menu. Being involved solely with legal CB radio I set the radio to 4W, rather than the 2.9W from the factory. Be aware that the range difference between 4W & 8W is tiny...probably another 1/2 mile, so not worth breaking the law or thrashing the set. I have three radios that use this chassis in for repair, two of which I know have been run at full pelt & are now not transmitting....I need a service manual to sort them out, if they are even repairable.

UK uses the EU band also? Most new radios today made in China & will not last & cheaply made.

    • @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21
      @ukfmcbradioservicingTango21  3 роки тому +1

Yes, the UK can use the 40 EU band as well as the 40 Uk band. We see a lot of Japanese 1980's UK CB's for service here which are now approaching 40 years old. I suspect you are quite right & the current radios won't last.

Hi Richard, a comprehensive video which I have found very useful, but I hope you can help with a small problem that I've encountered in setting this radio up. Just for some background, I've just bought one of these CB's for a veterans charity rally I'm taking part in, and can't seem to get the receive light to change from Amber to Green, and therefore I don't seem to be able to receive any voice. Being a bit of a newbie to this, is it the sighting of the aerial that I have to look at. so I get the green receiver light? Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

When these radios arrive new in a box, they are set to EU channels on which there is very little activity in the UK....have you selected UK channels from the 'norms' menu as per the instruction book?
I thought the RX light was only ever green. If you turn down the squelch until the radio hisses, the green RX light should come on. Squelch is then advanced to 'threshold' which is the point at which the background noise disappears. The higher the squelch setting, the more receive signal is required to open it....thus restricting your receive rangle.
The squelck on this radio is a faff to work & I wish you'd bought a radio with a squelch knob!

Peugeot use 5 sided bolts on their brake calipers. That was a real head scratcher, 15 too big, 14 too small. It was only when in looked closely!

I was almost tempted, but when you opened it and it was Menu driven, NO THANKS! Far to much fiddling and faffing about to set it up the way I would want it to operate. 4 watts, good deviation and spot on frequency and as for the mic connection, more trouble than it is worth!
Send it to the bin. :-(( Shame, it could have been good with a proper mic and a better menu. Not so bad it they tell you how to set it up properly if they haven't bothered! EDIT: It also sounds crap without an extension speaker! Oh no, give me an old Cybernet or even a Midland Precession Series, at least the Midland looked the part, even if it was not the best, it did stand out from the crowd. I'll stick to my York, even if the volume control did fall to bits :-((

    Hello!
I own this xenon crt station and I have a frequency calibration problem, in my country the working frequency is 27,225 FM and my station broadcasts on 27,227 FM and I am not heard, I tried to reduce from the service menu but below 27,226.8 FM no I succeeded. Can I give you some advice? Thank you so much for your understanding!

I'm sorry I can't really help. All I would do is check if the reference oscillator crystal is running at the correct frequency with a frequency counter, at the crystal itself. Without a service manual I'm otherwise stumped. Normally crystals drop frequency with age, so this is wierd. Surely, the radio is still under warenty?

@@ukfmcbradioservicingTango21 The transceiver is under warranty, so it was bought from an online store with the defect described above, and the seller does not want to change my product even though he has 7 days since I bought the transceiver. I mention that it has an impeccable crystalline reception but on the broadcast I am only very difficult to receive although the antenna has a swr 1, 2 and a power of 4w measured with the powermeter and the frequency instead of 27,225,000 is 27,227,033 ... @@ovidiuovidius I think you are correct & it is too far off frequency to work properly. That said, I trust your frequency counter reads correctly with other sets. If it really is that much off frequency the vendor needs to change it or refund you.
