- Опубліковано 21 жов 2024
- I am going to attempt to move the 1965 Mercury Montclair from her resting spot. We will attempt to give this Old 1965 Merc Life from the Dead. She has been sitting for 16 years! We have gotten her to start, but can she be moved? Is a Revival Possible? Will stuck brakes stop the revival? Will she move around to a more suitable spot? All these questions answered on this episode of RevStoration.
What should be name the Car? Mrs. Breezy?

Nice car. Thanks to share.
She has a ways to go, but so do I. Thanks for watching!
I love you all who have the talents and the know how! But i myself do NOT want to mess with this old stuff anymore!
I understand, they can be a headache sometimes.
I love this!!!...."If your foundation is not right, your house is going to fall."
So true!
I think Jesus had a very appropriate parable about the same thing... Life happens and we need something strong to keep us standing.. Thanks for watching!
I have a 65 Mercury Montclair I bought 50 years ago as my first car and still drive it. It has a 352 V8 automatic Power steering and Brakes and tilt wheel. Still runs good.
Wow, I love this old rig but I have a horribly rusted frame that I did not notice until I was installing new tires... I hope it does derail the project.
You're right, there's nothing glamorous about pulling these old things back from the brink. It's a lot of hard work. Worth it for the satisfaction though.
Puts me in mind of an old escapade of mine back in '87, being towed home in a Humber Sceptre with no windows during a snow storm...
Still fun though!
Hello Wheeler boys! Looking forward to following this project
She deserves a good pressure wash at least, thanks for watching Chuck!
Love your videos peering Like a Kitten ABSOLUTELY my favorite channel God Bless
The engine was purring... the muffler was not... Gotta cut them off!
My respect is for you my friend and God bless you and I enjoy your videos that you make of the cars you revive keep up the good work and God bless you
Javier, thank you for watching God Bless you as well.
We had a Merc Montclair Breezeway when I was a kid. The back window rolling down was a novelty.
Still to this day a novelty... hopefully this one works.
At Jim Doyle former Govenor of Wisconsin. I had one of these as my 1st. car in 1977. My breeze way window worked.
Man, I remember when I was a kid my folk's had an1964 Merc Montclair had a 390, the back window went up and down, cool car !
Thanks for sharing REV!
You bet!
Nice score in the trunk. Those hood ornaments alone are worth some 💵 to help offset the cost of some parts 😀
Monty, I was pleased with the hood ornament and the tools. Double score... the bank bag could have been full of some 100's. but no luck there. Thanks for watching!
You guys are fun! Being safe is #1, too many close calls made me a believer. I say a Month to get it on the road.
The more we wrestle and inspect the rig, I think it may not make it back. Rust on the frame may be a show stopper.
@@RevStoration Get a good licensed frame person to give you a quote, it will be a go or no go from there. Beside they might like to show up on your channel and work out a deal. With kingpins on your old truck you might need a frame person to align it.
Cool ride, I like your content.
Thanks Jeffrey.. we enjoy making the content and honored that people watch!
It is romantic when we love are old rigs and take are time to care for them
So true... You better love it because it isn't easy! Get dirty before the reward!
i know you cracked the trunk , but if you need a key code for replacing it , the doors and trunk use the same key . I believe the key code was stamped on the driver's door lock cylinder . Been a while , but I think so. Sold Ford and Mercury parts for 40 years . Good luck , love your videos . God Bless and keep you all. Take care Rev .
p.s. love the Mercury , they were great cars .
Rick, I thought the same thing. But on this rig.. the door and the ignition is the same key, the trunk is different. It was not what I was expecting.
We thank she's a winner
Thank you.. she is a fun rig.
I love the videos, thanks for sharing!
Thanks David!
Love those hood ornaments. Merry Christmas Rev. , Nikki T and family.
Thank you Frank, Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
Merry Christmas Frank!!
Well Rev at least it had doors on it! My 68 didn’t even have the doors on it when I bought it! I am also completely sure it was not owned by a fellow Christian( or maybe a lost Christian?)!The trunk was full of empty whiskey bottles and empty beer cans from the seventies...you know the old pull tops they quit making it the early eighties. My car sat dormant in the woods since the late seventies. Love the videos and keep them coming! Merry Christmas and God bless you and your family.
Merry Christmas and God Bless You and Yours as well!
Cool videos.these cars are awesome looking machines . I know it well .
Keep making more videos your doin good.
Thank you! I am going to give this old girl a life again hopefully!
Thanks budy.you sure will get through with this motor.god willing.
I done all this and still doin the same stuff .little old now but still carrying on. You allways respond .
The best thaing about you👍
Your words about a strong foundation, really spoke to me. I sure wish I could talk to you.
Send me an email... revstoration@gmail.com
great video enjoy God bless and stay safe more way than one
Thanks Ray!
I love the work your doing and you're right. Lots of people who don't know any better, think this kind of work is easy. No it's not. Lots of time carefully unbolting rusted head bolts, water pumps etc. Then the nightmare of finding the parts. There are lots of resources to find parts but usually, you have to send out parts like blowers and ac units to be rebuilt, and that's of they can be rebuilt. Sometimes they can't and you need to go on a trip old school style across the USA to find a wreck to part out. It's fun but really hard
Phillip, you are so right.. It is fun and rewarding but not glamorous or easy. Thanks for watching!
Enjoying your videos very much, like you say there's a lot of hard work involved. Good luck with it, I will be watching!
Yes, it is alot of work but very rewarding!
Hi Rev. The old Merc. is rolling again! Glad you got her on secure ground. Thank God it didn’t fall on you the other day. My biggest fear Rev. I have a ‘73 Electra 225 and always worry when I’m under it, jack stands and all. Tough gettin’ them up in the air in the dirt. Glad to see NikkiT and the Old Man again. Stay safe and can’t wait to see Ole Puddin some more. “ Deuces “. Big Al.
Big Al, the car is old secure ground and I am pleased. I can work on this old girl is relative easy... Thanks again for watching always. Puddin Video with the gas tank install is probably next.
LOVE this one and I'm so glad you spell it out. That first start is in fact a true rush, but laundry list of items on the backside is where the real work lies. Glad you moved it to more stable ground.....I think I was watching that jack while you were getting the drum off more than the rest of the video - sure did make a guy nervous all the way over here in TX! Take care Rev! Tell the family Darren in TX said hello, and please tell 'the ol man' hello as well! Take care!
Darren, God Bless Brother.. I was watching the old jack too... My Mountain Dew was in the insulated cup on the top of the rig.. I wasn't going to shake it too much. Thanks again!
@@RevStoration Also, the timing for this one was perfect, just yesterday I unloaded the Scout off a trailer and drove it on my friends property with no brakes! Put it in 4L so I'd have some resistance and alternated between drive and neutral to get it to stop.....the things we do for these old vehicles! Stay safe - looking forward to the next update!
Get yourself a 1988 Chevy astro van!! I’d watch everyday! I just got my 1994 Chrysler LeBaron back on the road! I had myself a 1988 Astro but she was trashed by raccoons!
The Good Old Astro Van... I was looking at a 1973 Ford Van for purchase the other day... You may see a van on the channel before long!
Ask Santa to get you one of the small aluminum "racing" jacks from Harbor Freight with the handle on the side. I think they are 1 1/2 ton and are really light. They have them on sale for $59 quite a bit. They are really handy and would be great for what you are doing outside if you add a square of 1/2 inch plywood under it.
Not a bad idea.. I need a better jack!
@@RevStoration if you go to the Harbor Freight Coupon Database you will find a currently coupon for the jack at $59.99. I have used mine to do all sorts of things I shouldn't do with it and have had no problems. I have a bigger jack in my shop, but I will grab this one first because it is so light and handy.

Love those Mercury valve covers!
Really sweet engine for sure.
Driving MISS Breezy! I love it!
She didn't drive far but she moved under her own power. Thanks for watching!
yes sir. Another great video!
Thanks Hank! You are always a great help... hope I can put some of it to positive use.
Another one alive and well...I mean, well on it's way to being well! hahaha! Great video, Brother! God bless.
Lou, this old rig is alive but she surely is not well yet. Maybe one day. Thanks again and God Bless!
hey rev, love what you do. I been working on old cars all my life. always loved it even doing things like changing clutches in snowstorms. 65 yrs old now still working on a 65 mercury. you either love it or you don't. with all due respect , whining about it don't do it for me
Nope.. not whining.. I love it too. But people don't need to think it is easy because they seen a 30 minute video on youtube... It may look easy on youtube but it isnt easy!
@@RevStoration absolutely, tell it like it is, there's good, AND bad. And it costs MONEY.
Well Done & excellent videos Rev (Dave) , Dave dad , Nicky T :) and keep them videos rolling to always enjoy watching too!
Thanks, will do!
Awesome video brother. You got her running an moving. That's a good deal. You guys rock. An it's lots of fun. Nothing better then getting those rides back on the road an doing with your family. That's awesome in its self. Nothing better then enjoying life with the family an having fun with some old but not forgotten rides of years gone bye. You guys have a great week an we'll catch ya on the next adventure with the old rides.😁👍👍👃👃
Thank You very Much Richard!
Its never easy what are you talking about, haha, been doing this for 30 years. Its a blast. Just found your channel. Take care.
Never easy but still rewarding. Thanks for watching!
Just subbed to your channel!
@@RevStoration yes, even if it's not enjoyable, its usually a learning experience, haha.
Had a friend that found a Merc like that at an estate auction, 16,000 actual miles! Ran like a clock, looked brand new, inside and out, all service records! Only things that didn't work were rear breezeway window and gas tank sender. What a prize!
Wow, this one was going to be fun to restore. But the frame is rusted really bad... I would love to have found one like your friend. Thanks for watching, Paul!
Hey Rev and crew you moved it which is progress that's a good start
Rev man what cha doing with us with that money bag? We need to know what's in there? Not later But Now! lol
It had a lot of paper work with addresses and bank information.. I didn't feel it was right to show.. but no money.. that would have been cool. Thanks for watching!
@@RevStoration Yes agreed that would not be good with addresses and such
Shame no cash She's got sweet motor tho
My Dad has always talked about his 59 mercury that he had before he and Mom got married it is interesting seeing this and yes you have not even begun yet so good luck
This Merc is going to take a little work and I am pleased it brought up a few memories of your folks. Thanks for watching!
For jacking and jack stands in soft ground, use a 3' x 3' foot square piece of 1/4" inch plate steel
Grant, I think that is best suggestion yet.. It is all about the foundation!
Most locksmiths can cut a replacement key for trunk and gas cap as long as you show them the cars title or even actual tumblers can be replaced with new ones.
I will have to pick up a new tumbler.. not too big of an expense.
Send me a little prayer there rev 😃
Done brother!
Thank you and that car is sweet looking
Drill out the locking gas cap. The lock mechanism are dry, just pull the interior cards. The truck has a steel rod you can get at thru that lock tumbler. You'll have to bust out the big hammer or get a drum puller for the wheel if the shoe retainers won't give it up. That headliner is still available from Carter's down south, but you can always make one from scratch. Sewing machine. Don't lose the steel bows when you tear it out. Mark where they go though.
Murray, I drill them both out.. and it works. Thanks for the heads up on the other issues.
@@RevStoration glad to help. Forgive the haste in writing, but I was having prayer for my Sister who's having breathing troubles. Started tinkering in the early 70's, on old Bel-Air's, Chevy II's, and my Fav's 2nd & 3rd Gen., Thunderbirds. Love these ol' Brute's, much to all the head-shaking, and scowls of my Chevy-lovin' brethren. Honest to all, the rubber gasketing in that car is going to be the biggest pain. Much of it hasn't been made in years, and J.C. Whitney doesn't carry it no longer. Need a hand with that rear opening glass, give me a holler, as the mechanism is delicate to get out, and the glass is like Hen's teeth these days. God bless your efforts Rev.
@ rev I see a boat let's go fishing 🎣brother......... that Ole car is going to look good when your done buddy... and as always awesome video 📹
Thank you Tony. I love to fish and I need to get the old boat out and see what we could come up with. Thanks for watching as always!
One week is tough goal. Wish y’all had a lift. Would make life so much easier love this car💕
A lift most certainly would.. a hammer would have helped too!
Another great episode, always entertaining.
Brad, thank you bunch. We are usually fairly funny even when we are not trying!
I've always wanted one of these. Done in black with black leather interior...a miniature lincoln continental.
I think the only draw back that I have seen so far is rusted frame... hopefully it doesn't end the project.
Gotta love bringing an old ride back to life and finding the hidden and forgotten treasure in under and around a vehicle it always tells a story of time about the vehicle and its owners great work and I totally understand the struggles of a revival and always looking forward to them and to yours great work Rev your channel and stories are the best
It may look easy but it is not. It is rewarding and fun but not glamorous.
@@RevStoration oh I know all to well I've done a few like you myself
Amazing video as always! That should be one of your kids first cars. I would have given anything to pull up to highschool in that
You could have your whole class ride home with you.. You could get 10 high schoolers in that rig for sure. Thanks for watching friend!
@@RevStoration It's the first date mobile😂
You'll get to know your girlfriend well.
My first car was a 1964 Mercury Meteor, 2 door with the breezeway rear window. I still love the look of them.
The hood bird is 55-57 chevy. Really you might wanna collect old ford keys. If you have enough of them, one will open the lock. I think they only used 17 tumbler combinations. Or so I've been told. The old guys did this all the time when I was younger. Seen it many times. 👍
We tried about 20 Old Ford Keys and the none of them worked. The good old Master key (drill) worked fine. It would have been awesome if the key worked!
I'm with your dad Rev. I would be trading spots with one of the cars that you drive, that hill does look ominous. remember safety last, (NO wait a minute). 🍀
William, the hill is steep and the road is busy... Brakes are a necessity.
Another great job 👍. God bless you, salutes from 🇵🇷Puerto Rico 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you very much!
I just watched another video on a friend’s channel where he revived on old Caddy! And I commented how much I love these big old cars! You maken me jealous!
These Big Old Rigs can be fun. Hopefully this old girl has a few years left.
Man found a little reseller stuff in the trunk bonus
I need a few listing tuesdays like you... I believe I can pull a couple hundred from the hood ornaments.
The doors won't latch because the mechanism on the door is stuck in the closed position. Sometimes it is because the door lock that operates with the key is stuck. What, no cinder blocks under the car for safety? And here I thought you was a Jawja boy. Land sakes.
Oh, those extra plates, know what those are? Credit cards from a law enforcement standpoint. Back in the day, and I'm sure still do, people would appropriate them from other cars, slap it over their tag and steal gas with a drive off.
Wow, the extra plates may have been used in a crime.. Note to self, do not do that. I was trying to use my jack stands but they didn't do me much good. Thanks for watching as always!
Love the vids, thanks so much. I live in a highrise in a big city now, but lived on 200 acres and my first car was a 1970 V code Charger R/T. I'M living vicariously through you and your pops now. Peace to you and yours.
Paul, thank you for watching... Hopefully, we will be back at it before too much longer. Thanks again.
The passenger door striker lever is flipped because it is stuck. Look at the catch on the door and unseize the lever which locks it shut while driving etc. The back door take a rubber hammer and tap the button because it is likely seized chrome to chrome.
The Passenger door striker has the spring that forces the door to catch shut is broke. Urg...
Hello there young buck, my Grandma had one just like that sitting in between our house in the neighbor's house 14 years or maybe even more. Buy cousin from Traverse City Michigan took a bus down to Detroit and got the car running in a day and I always love that car. He drove it from Detroit to Traverse City with no problems that was a miracle. But he did show me that that back window goes down I didn't know if you knew that or not but it goes down. So just saying God bless young buck
I am going to try to roll the window down after I give it a good cleaning. Hopefully, it still works. Thanks for watching and God Bless!

I was a little worried about that car falling when you had your hands in there. Thank God it didn't.👍
yeah the whole car was ready to fall. not very safe at all
You and me both! Not the safest job but the ground didn't give me many options. One Jack and one stand..
@@RevStoration purchase some new harbor freight tools jack stands
Do some research and learn about cribbing, makes for a much more stable base. Don't trust luck to keep them much needed fingers
@@diggrduggr1 yes cribbing made out of 2X4's where you are making a 10 " inch high blocks for the tires with wheel chocks on both sides of the tire. like ramps without the ramp and made from wood.
It wouldn't be nearly as fun if it was always easy.
So true... these rigs have to be difficult or everyone would be doing it.
Rev, when you are jacking up in soft dirt, put one board under the jack, and the other boards between the jack and the car to keep the jack closest to the ground and stable, and the other boards go on top to reach up to the car or provide as much additional lift as you need. At least that's how I do it.
The jack does not work well on the soft ground for sure... Thanks for the heads up..
Love your work keep it coming

That I also must follow the Western Flyer understanding. That my vehicles are all my own problems. Although, it's really great to get a break from time too time about things. Hopefully people can have the same luck.
I agree Jacob! Thanks for watching!
Try some thrust spray on those three doors, maybe you can get them to work?

Hood oraments worth more than the car look it up.Good score
Wow, I then the old rig had some value somewhere. The car has been a disappointment but at least the engine is good.
" oh Lord have mercy on my soul. "
We must be cut from the same cloth Rev, no pun intended. I use that phrase often.
New subscriber here, God bless~
Thanks for the sub, I am honored that you watched... God Bless!
Another great episode Rev! Always look forward to your videos, keep up the good work!
Ash from Australia again
Ash, I appreciate you watching for the great down under.
Try soaking the door hinges and latches with WD-40 or PB Blaster I guarantee that would free it up and end up working again I would try that before tearing the door apart
No doubt rust is the culprit. Anything to free with that issue. Thanks for watching!
I wish I had the cash to get one of those old cars but maybe someday thanks brother for the awesome video
Dave, you may be surprised what you have pick up off of Facebook Marketplace... Sometimes the price is very reasonable.
Rev another good one 🙂. Is this a keeper? Have fun with it gonna watch
Mark, the keeper question is becoming clearer and it may not be the answer many want. The engine is a keeper without a doubt.
Found myself smiling when you got it to move. Enjoy your videos. Christ is the answer. God bless you
I was happy the old rig moved for me as well. I think I gave the old man a heart attack. Thanks again for watching!
Rev to make life a little easier I use a bottle torch and some PB blaster along with a hammer.
I needed a hammer, I had the PB Blaster, but I never got the torch out... Thanks for watching
Yes those always rust frame in front of rear axle. Galaxies also, had a 68 2 door sold it to a fella and that’s the first thing he looked at. He bought it anyway. The engine, trans and interior where mint. He was taking three cars and making one nice one!
Yep.. the box and frame is shot.. Not good for this old rig.
love the old merc...i'ma merc man myself..,,here is a tip for you...that radiator take should only be full to the bottom of the top layer..if you look inside you will see like a plate in there half way down ..with a hole i think..just fill er up to that ..if you fill her to the top then run it..it will puke anti freeze out for a while when it gets warm...gatta say that motor sounds fine in it
I will.. I just knew when the motor started running that it would move some air bubbles out, but the level has remained the same.. I have some work to do on the reservoir, so I will be taking some out.
im a hood ornament collector your hood ornaments are worth good money $80 plus to find what they are for go to ( just a car guy ,hood ornaments) then check ebay im guessing 50s chev or pontiac great video God bless keep safe
Yeah, after a little research I think they are for 50's Chevy. Im going to clean them up and if I can move them to someone that wants them that would be great. Thanks for watching as always!
Like it!
She is going to be a fun rig, I hope!
Rev, what have you gotten yourself into? This poor old car needs soooooo much TLC.
I agree... I have asked myself that question more than once. I at least know that I have a good engine and some decent tools in the truck.
Hammer time.
That Hammer that I had was No legit It Quit! Thanks for watching!
That mercury does have a very neat look to it. I knew a man who had a car smash his whole left side. Hes all right now... a joke for you.
Wow... That one may make an appearance on the show.. Thanks for watching... Im typing and laughing...
Man jacking that car up on those little boards is mighty brave you need a patio stone or something more solid because that's a heavy car there
The worse part was the ground was soft and uneven. I put plywood under it and it busted through. I think the patio stone would have busted too. So I stacked the boards in two patterns to hopefully displace a little more. It worked once. Thanks for watching!
Rev on soft ground use the biggest square and thickest piece of wood or urethane possible under your jack its hard to sink 2 ft square verse a 6"X 12" .
It needed a better foundation for sure.
Next time invest in a propane torch to heat the drum and get a real hammer and the drum will come right off with some heat and a hammer and don't worry about the springs thats why you should put new ones on and they have new spring kits at the auto store
I have already purchased a pile of parts to get the brakes going again but both front drums/hubs are shot. The Old Merc is going to require cash!
Rev, get yourself a couple of 1 foot by 1 foot squares of 3/4 inch plywood to put under the jack stands. It will be much safer.
I had some 1/2 plywood stacked and it was busting them because of the uneven and weak ground. I stacked the wood in different way to displace as much as possible. It is on concrete now, so it should be easier.
I use the tire & wheel I've removed or a spare under the frame with wood blocks to ensure the car can't drop.
Jack Stands are not worthy on the soft ground.
Years ago I had a 63 like that mine was white I paid 50 bucks for it drove it 2 years good luck
You got a better deal that I did. Thanks for sharing.
Looking great!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey rev watching your video you can take a picture of the code on the gas cap and I can send you the cuts to take to a locksmith to make you a key for the gas cap
Just seen you got it
Yep, it wasn't that important to me. The trunk key would have been valuable, but I can replace the cylinder. Thanks for watching!
My 65 mustangs driver door was doing the same as your drivers door shoot some PB blaster in the button of the handle worked for me if you can get the straw in there
Thanks, I will give it a try! Appreciate you watching!
thank you for the good word be safe
Those Thunderbird hood ornaments or any hood ornaments will sell on eBay
Yep!
@@RevStoration and yup!
Brother, those hood ornaments are money.
I think you are correct. I am going to clean them up and hopefully send them on to someone that has the need.
I had a 66 Mercury Convertible until a couple of years ago. You may want to check into those wheel covers. They very well be correct on that car. They weren't the base covers but I'm thinking they may have been one of the upgrades. Don't get rid of them until you know for sure. I've been where you are many times. Lot of work but lots of pleasure too.
Jow.. this one is going to be headed to another person. Hopefully, they will get this one going.
It would be a nice engine for the P.U as it had an F.E motor 352 when new , 390 would fit in just like it had come from the factory ..............
Len, Ole Puddin originally came with the 360.. but you are correct.. a 390 would fit in nicely!
1st one is a 55 Chevy hood ordiment, 3rd ond is I believe a 56 Chevy ordiment, and those 3100 are to the side of the hood of 55-59ish chevy truck
I believe they may still have some use left. I am going to clean them up and hopefully find some comps of ebay.
if the frame is a little seedy be careful where u put the jack,u don't want to meet the big guy just yet
I agree Wayne... I had jack and jack stand to make it a little safer... but it wasn't safe... I was careful to not get under the rig.
When we're faced with a non roller with drum brakes here's what to do.
Get the wheel under tension ( in gear if a runner or pull with winch, vehicle on ground chock the other wheels) next strike the hubcap mount area of the wheel with a large hammer.
Most of the time this shocks the shoes free from the drum.
If your faced with wheels that still won't turn or are not straight/ out of alignment (collision damaged) & you need to load onto a truck/trailer put trays ( wheelie bin lids are ideal) under the offending wheel they will allow the wheel to slide.
Craig, most of these are literally rusted to the drum... sometimes they free up.. most of the time, they do not.
