"Ghost" Rescued Again!

- Once again, “Ghost” lives up to his name. He was spotted, photographed, and reported to us by many observant human beings, but we needed a few days to finally find him ourselves. He looked very healthy since the last time we rescued him. This fishing line was tight around his neck but didn’t cut him just yet, so we’re sure he will recover quickly, and we are also sure that we will have to rescue him again soon.

So, Ghost knows the routine if he has been rescued before. Unfortunately, he does not seem to know how to avoid the lines. Although in the water, they may be very hard to see. They are transparent and likely blend in until it is too late. Thank you, as always, Team OCN for all you do!!
Ghost; "You guys again"? Team OCN; "You again with another mess"? Sad that he keeps getting entangled, but is strong and has healed nicely since the last messes.

I hope this is the last time poor Ghost is caught and entangled in discarded fishing gear. He's suffered enough for multiple lifetimes. Thank goodness someone saw he was in trouble and sent the team a photo so he could be rescued again. I like that Naude called him buddy. There's a rapport there. I hope he recovers and gains much needed weight. Thank you OCN!

As he saunters away, he knows the drill by now, he’s a “frequent flyer.” Ghost, you can best thank the crew by surviving, thriving and fathering some babies!

Commercial fishing lines are often tied in loops on board fishing vessels to secure equipment or hang fish in the hold. Recreational fishing lines are stored on reels and naturally tend to loop once uncoiled. When they get tangled or knotted, anglers cut and discard them as they are unfortunately too cheap to be worth unraveling.
Many studies show that fishing gear poses the greatest entanglement threat to marine wildlife. Fishing activities are inherently destructive and fully participate in the plastic crisis our oceans are now facing. We therefore encourage our viewers to stop eating seafood.
You'd think that after being caught and made to feel less pain that many times, he would just stand there and let you help him.
It is not his way. "You wanna help me? You gotta CATCH me first!!"
It's encouraging that people look out for the seals as well! It takes a community! ❤

Poor thing. That is not how a majestic fur seal bull should look. Get better and add some weight on you.
It hurts to see animals suffering this much because of human waste. Even worse knowing that many animals die slowly and painfully out of sight due to this. We must keep spreading the awareness by pointing to this as one of the consequences of poverty and lack of garbage disposal management.

Great rescue! Gosh, he really walks high-- not on his belly at all. Maybe, instead of calling him Ghost, you should call him "Wrong-Way Mulligan," for all his entanglements. He does have a knack for them. I almost wonder if he wants something round his neck.
Like the penguin in "Happy Feet". Ghost musta watched that movie!! LOL
Or maybe the same personality that makes him curious, willing to engage the environment and sometimes getting him into trouble, might also make him good breeding material. Who knows.
Poor old Ghost isn't the sharpest tool in the box. Keeps getting entangled and then acts up when the guys are trying to help him!

Extremely sad and concerning that the same seal gets entangled multiple times? OCN does this happen more frequently to different individual seals? Or do seals that hang out in particular areas, such as the docks, have repeat entanglements more often?
Ghost is lucky that he lives where he can be rid of his entanglements by the OCN team. Unfortunately, most entangled seals are not so lucky and suffer unseen by people.
Let your representatives know that more needs to be done. Tell them that fisherman, trash dumpers etc must be held accountable or this will never end for the innocent animals. Let them know it's important to you and vote accordingly.
