Thank you for your greetings and kind comments. Diolch am eich croeso ac eich geiriau caredig. I enjoyed doing the video with Jason even though he got more right than me. 😊. Although as he said, we’re a team. I look forward to making another video with Jason in the near future. Hwyl fawr Jean
Yo Jean and Jason from the West coast of Turtle Island I send appreciation and gratitude! I am a descendant of Cymru ancestors and currently in my fifth year of Welsh language/culture and history studies. Big Diolch and love to both of you!
When my daughter was about 7 years old, we held a pot luck luncheon for several friends. One of the guests volunteered to bring Welsh Rabbit. I assumed he meant rarebit. He didn’t; he meant a rabbit dish he’d learned while living in Wales. My poor daughter looked at the disjointed rabbit pieces in cream sauce and across the yard to her rabbit hutch with her pet bunnies bopping around in it, and back again. She became a vegetarian for almost a year after that. I got 15 out of 20. Does that mean I can sell up and get the heck out of Texas?
Sutmae, Jean and Jason. I'm a little late coming to this quiz as I've only just found you. I'm rather chuffed to say for an old English girl I didn't do too badly, 15/20. I do know more about this beautiful country than I thought, though some were guesses. I was gutted to get the tallest mountain question wrong. I learnt the story of Gelert when I was on holiday in Harlech, back in 1977 and to this day it's still one of the saddest stories I know. I tried to tell my granddaughters about Gelert and couldn't get through it without breaking into tears. I so enjoyed doing this quiz. Thank you so much 🙂 Annie C.
You Unfortunately English but have several Welsh cousins in South Wales , have supported Wales from an early age, thus on match days I’m Welsh, the rest of the time I’m unhappy lol loved the quiz guys, I scored a admirable 15 out of 20 , I can do better with practice, please do another one some time. 👍🏻🏴
Hello, Jean! Best wishes from a Scots Mum to a Welsh Mum! I've visited Wales many times, and love it. I scored 15, so I must have paid attention! Diolch!
Thank you and hi to your Mum Jean :) I want to learn Welsh but I am dyslexic so find it very difficult re any language but already finding your site is very helpful and I feel I will finally find a way brilliant.
S'mae Jason a Jean! Great fun video: I was pleasantly surprised to achieve 18/20 in the quiz. Lifelong vistor to Wales and coming up to 3 year resident now: I have found your podcast a great practical and fun way to learn Cymraeg. 😀
As an American we cook "grilled cheese sandwiches" in frying pans as well as grill them. Way better with diced tomatoes in them tho !!!!! Hello Jean !!
This quiz video was fun and I respect that you included your mother, Miss Jean. I scored 16/20 and failed in the sports and the newer political figures. In older American English, "grilled" and "skillet toasted" were synonymous. My father is Welsh, but my mother is Native American and our people call a skillet or frying pan a "spider," from the days before we had proper kitchens and cooked food on camping gear. The handle appeared as the head, the roundness its body and the wire legs it rested on its legs. The prominent city in our tribal territory is called Pembroke. Patagonia was chosen in favor of America because it had become apparent that Welsh immigrants to America lost their language and culture within a generation. Rwy'n gobeithio eich bod chi'n iach ac mewn heddwch, fy ffrind.
Firstly: Helo i dy fam, S’mae Gene! I live in the U.S. so let’s talk grilled cheese. Even though you can make a melted cheese sandwhich grilled, griddled, or broiled in an oven like most Welsh Rarebit; “Grilled Cheese” are called grilled because they were made on the most common cooktop in American dinners. A grill. Now, I dont know if thats a fact or if its just something which makes sense to my Cymro mind. Either way, there you have it! A plausible explanation from a Welsh person who may be right, might be wrong, but who cares? Americans are weird. Ha! Cymru am byth! 🏴 Enjoyed this quiz. Scored 17/20 just like you and your mam. Hwyl!
Glad you like the vid. I saw Mam (Jean) a few days ago and she said “I enjoyed making the video. When are we going to make the next one?” So there will be more videos coming soon.
Shwmae Jean, Croeso, diolch yn fawr . Iam really enjoying this. I got 18 by guessing some of the questions. I love welsh very much that l can not measure

I am American but of Welsh descent. My family left Wales when all the mines shut. They then moved to Wisconsin to work in the mines there. I am now interested in learning the language of my ancestors. I have been to Wales. Travelled from Cardiff to Cynwyd. Which videos would you recommend I Start with?
You could do grilled cheese on a grill (or even a panini press if you want), it's just easier and more convenient to do in a frying pan most of the time! Not sure why exactly the name settled on grilled cheese in the first place I just know it's good!
I got 14/20 -- not quite there. And three I guessed; I chose 'Ruth Jones' and 'Carwyn Jones' because Jones sounds like such a Welsh name. And I chose 'Real Madrid' because the other two teams are English.

I also have Maternal Great Grand Parents both from Britian too. That would have been a craic. 😅😂😋😊 I hope you get the humorous side of it. That's my inner voice battle of the mind. What!?, you say. Immagine mixxing these 19th century couples at a wedding dinner together mixed with alcohol and controversial music at the time. Wouldn't that not be a craic.
I got 16 out of 20 and I'm English. Holidayed every year as a youngster and after marriage with my own kids more in North Wales but did venture South occasionally. Can I, pretty please, have my Welsh citizenship? 😂❤
I got 11. Can i still visit? I got the St David one right because when i was very young we had a week in a small cottage in Fishguard and i remember St David's Head being not far away. A bit annoyed that i didn't get the Snowdon one right, considering that i heard the name uttered on Radio 2 today
Not sure why you think merely being Welsh would mean you should pass the test. I'm English and i didn't pass ours. Hi jean 👋 Heard on the radio today that we will have to refer to Snowden by the Welsh name. I don't have a problem with that.
Shwmae Jean I see your the brains behind the throne of the Welsh Podcast. I had 20, I did have to guess two, the Gold meal sport and the number of castle's. Enjoyed very much, hope to see more of Jean.
