9/26/2022 It was cool to see Dyno Dons Maverick with the Mr. Gasket logo on the side. 1973 -1978, I think, I was the man who made the gaskets, along with several others. I owned a 1973 Mav 302 . I did a cheap upgrade by changing out the ford 2 barrel to a Holly 500. I could not afford much more than that, but it made a big performance difference. Lots of nice looking Mavericks here, thanks for the video.
Very cool seeing Armstrong Tires painted on the side of the car @0:21...When I was a kid in the late 70's to mid 80's, my Dad used to run Armstrong Tru-Tracs on his '70 Kaiser Cj-5 Jeep, he had a pumped up Ford 289 K-Code in it, when he'd drag race it on the Sand Highway at Pismo Beach, California....he had over a dozen Drag Race Champion metal dash placards stuck to the dash signifying all of his wins...he says his favorite thing to do was beat up on junk Chevy 350 powered rigs, Chevy owners always talked the most crap and he liked shuttin em up...lol Great Vid here bro, the Maverick is indeed a bad*ss Ford...🇺🇸☝🏻
I just bought a 72 with only 39.000 miles on it.. 250 i6 ac/ps metallic green with white vinyl top. I get more thumbs up per mile than any other car I've owned in 40yrs.
I/we have a '71 Maverick Grabber that has a 351w HO engine that has some mods done to it. C6 transmission, 9" rear, 4-wheel disc brakes, 15x7 Magnum 500 wheels, PS/PB, and factory A/C. The car is badass fast. Low 11's on drag radial tires and closed exhaust
@ 2:57 that's Frank Sicinski checking the tire and holding the bleach bottle. You can still find him these days at his body shop in New Caney, TX. Cool guy I've known since the early 80's. LOTS of stories!!!
I think the hate comes from the fact they were cheap economy cars, thats what the maverick was even first marketed as. getting okay mpg and everything. Drag racers saw the potential though, became easy too after they got a factory V8 option.
A buddy's girlfriend's brother was selling a 1972 Maverick ( car was 5 years old at the time), with a 302 and 3-speed column shift. The shift linkage was so balky it was a deal-breaker. Even the bus I drove for work shifted smoother. Didn't have the skills to deal with that at the time, but that Maverick sure ran nice once you got it in gear.
I had a 72 Grabber 302 3-speed on the floor in 1979. It purred like a kitten but would get up and move when you needed it to. It had taken some abuse by the time I got it but I will never forget that car.

The Maverick was Fords answer to the Japanese invasion back in in the 70s. Its an attractive looking car with nice clean lines.

In 1970 the Maverick was priced at $1999 for the base model they weighed around 2500 lbs.
