I play 4 instruments, thought I could teach myself so bought a shakuhachi and it's the hardest instrument I've ever encountered! Challenging and I'm not yet at the point where it's a meditative tool. One day I'll achieve suizen. Beautiful video! Thank you so much for posting.
The Chinese bamboo flute which came before the Japanese flute, is called the Xiao, it makes a more smooth, mellow sound. The Japanese Shakuhachi has more attack, is more breathy, loud, and strong.
This is so weird.... I was listening to Chinese traditional music because I was remembering my dad who passed away a few years ago (He was Chinese) and suddenly I recognize this poem by Amado Nervo because it my mom's favourite poem (She is Mexican). I was feeling so sad but this made me feel calm again. Thanks for posting this!
WOW! Flute song!!! You're very talented, and beautiful. I really enjoyed your video. Fantastic playing you are very talented. I really like ur videos! And thank you for your friendship;) Dominika from Russia with Love, xxxxx, Dominika.
Although, the form of music played here is Japanese. This particular minor scale is distinctly Japanese. But the instrument was invented in China, later taken to Japan.
Shakuhachi was brought to Japan from China during the Tang Dynasty. Its name is Chinese: Shaku from Middle Chinese Chek/Chak. Hachi from Middle Chinese Bat. The modern pronunciation in Mandarin is Chiba. But in Cantonese it is Chek-Bat. There was a consonant mutation from archaic japanese to modern japanese. H use to be B. And CH used to be T. It was Shakubati in Old Japanese where the u and i were silent, giving the approximate pronunciation: shak' bat' (chak bat in middle chinese)
i Agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee China is da best culture but after our EGYPTIAN culture :P u know wat i love china more than my country :D so smart ppl so kind ppl not lazy :P
@MrKit2010 I studied linguistics in college. I have a particular interest on the Sinosphere and its influence on language in East Asia. I can speak, read and write, Chinese (several dialects) and Japanese.
@gariadara Yeah but shakuhachi sounds better. Which is 尺八 in kanji. I looked it up and it can also mean something completely different (yet it kinda makes sense) - so i shall watch where i use it in the future (lol can every sentence be read as a pun?).
I'm a Japanese. This tune is not Chinese. The title of this tune is "Hon Shirabe", for Shakuhachi (Japanese vertical bamboo flute). "Hon" means Main, Regular, or Real, and "Shirabe" means Tune. This tune was composed by "Komu Soh" (Samurai monks in Edo period), for pray to Buddha, about 400 years ago.
@RenegadeEngineer I'm sure you do....Chinese have both R and L, we can pronounced both fine. I think you're referring to the Japanese and Koreans, who don't distinguish the two.
Japan was less influenced than any other countries in Asia. China has a lot fo festivals which Japanese doesnt know what they are. Japan is unique country in Asia or even in the world. They created avery beautiful culture whcih no country has . By the way, if you were Japanese, you have to say itadakimasu (pray) before eating coz you have to thank creatures are being food for us. IN shrine or temple, Japanese claps their hands twice ( just some simple introduction of Japanses culture).
Shakuhachi was originally introduced from China into Japan in the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD). In China, it disappeared after China was conquered by Mongols. So today Shakuhachi is regarded as a traditional Japanese instrument and the style of this music is definitely Japanese, not Chinese. The title is incorrect.
some kind of Chinese flute instruments can make similar sound of Japan's Shakuhachi , but the style would be totally different, Japan's traditional style is much sad.
Japan has a lot of things which China doesnt have. Japan has Shinto which China doesnt have. SHinto even came first (Japanese own religion) before Buddhism was introduced to Japan. Go to Japan , espcially form Capital Kyoto and watch Japanese traditional festival as well as temple and shrine(Gion festival, awa dori, yosakoi ,..etc). You will see how much different it is,even Shinto was proven that it is same or very similar to Jewish culture).
You know, just so everyone can enjoy the music and the video as a whole, it would probably be a good idea to just correct the title to say Japanese instead of Chinese. The music is played in a very unique Japanese style, and it will make Japanese folks kinda irritated if the title still says Chinese. No pressure!
@bass109 How about no? I'd like to live my life following the teachings of Buddha knowing that if I mess up in life, I wont go to some fiery hole in the ground for eternity, but instead have another chance to do things right.
@KudaKomi "Shinto was proven that it is same or very similar to Jewish culture" There is one all powerful God in Jewish culture. That is actually more similar to the original Chinese religion of Heaven Worship, which also worshiped one all powerful imageless God. Shinto has many gods with limited powers.
@BlueWater1612 please change the title or you may be disrespecting Japanese people when you put wrong title like that. It should be Japanese flute music: Shakuhachi instead. Even a 10 years -old kid also can know this song is Japanese song

This is Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin playing on his zen shakuhachi flute. Shakuhachi is a Japanese flute.
Chinese flutes are very different from this one.
Playing this in the background while playing yasou!
As a Yasuo main, I just sit in front of their tower and play the flute until the game really starts.
People arguing on this videos comment log obviously need this music more than others.
i Agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee China is da best culture but after our EGYPTIAN culture :P u know wat i love china more than my country :D so smart ppl so kind ppl not lazy :P

Alguien podría decirme en qué tonalidad está la flauta con la que toca?? Muchas gracias por el video, sencillamente precioso
@uchicha666 Yea, you are right. The Shakuhachi is actually a japanese instrument. But music belongs to no nation. It belongs to the heart of people.
qué música tan deliciosa....
Great.
Yuuuuuummmmmmmmooooooooooooooooo !!!
@gariadara Yeah but shakuhachi sounds better. Which is 尺八 in kanji. I looked it up and it can also mean something completely different (yet it kinda makes sense) - so i shall watch where i use it in the future (lol can every sentence be read as a pun?).

Shakuhachi is a Japanese instrument. But the shakuhachi is actually a descendant of the Chinese Xiao flute.

I've heard that the shakuhachi was originally brought from Egypt to China, called the Sebi. Is this true?

@Farvan893 Same here! Im part mexican and I think maybe its because american natives are originnaly asian.
The roots of the shakuhachi is China, but this is a Japanese classical music with a Japanese shakuhachi.
I may be wrong but isn't Shakuhachi a Japanese word, not Chinese?
Me too had the same doubt..I guess it is Japanese
Shakuhachi was originally introduced from China into Japan in the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD). In China, it disappeared after China was conquered by Mongols. So today Shakuhachi is regarded as a traditional Japanese instrument and the style of this music is definitely Japanese, not Chinese. The title is incorrect.

@bass109 How about no?
I'd like to live my life following the teachings of Buddha knowing that if I mess up in life, I wont go to some fiery hole in the ground for eternity, but instead have another chance to do things right.

Wanna start a comment chain?
Shauhachi is Japanese instrument. Not Chinese !!! You better correct it on the page.
It's so... sad.
@BlueWater1612 please change the title or you may be disrespecting Japanese people when you put wrong title like that. It should be Japanese flute music: Shakuhachi instead. Even a 10 years -old kid also can know this song is Japanese song
