Why we are all attracted to conspiracy theories

- Belief in conspiracy theories is far more widespread than the stereotypes that dominate pop culture.

Recently, QAnon, Covid-19 and 5G theories have gained traction and criticism while less controversial conspiracies like the faked moon landing have persisted for decades
We all share hardwired evolutionary traits that make us vulnerable to them, from the way we assign truth to new information to our tendency to find patterns in unrelated phenomena. But if we're all potentially susceptible to conspiracy theories, how can we manage these cognitive shortcuts?

It wouldn't be as big of an issue if there weren't so many cover ups, which only fuel further speculation.
Almost as if its not conspiracies, but corruption brought about by the desire of rich people to stay rich.
Dont cover ups mean theyre covering something up lol not the brightest are we
As if powerful people are conspiring, ie talking and making plans, that would benefit themselves. Why would powerful people who are invited to special events, that none of us normies would be invited to, actually talk to each other and make plans? I am sure they just stare over beautiful balconies thinking wistfully about how much greater the world would be if we could all share, how the world could be a kinder place if some of their great wealth could be handed over to the less fortunate amongst us and not for one moment would they consider how to increase their already vast amount of wealth through lobbying and manipulating other powerful people. Power isn’t addictive, everyone knows that.
@@Adam-vp1cl Well attempted cover-ups thankfully the elites are so nepotistic that they think they are clever than they think.

The truth is still the truth even if the entire world does not believe in it and a lie is still a lie even if the entire world believes in it..
Well said, my friend!
yes, many times so Hard to digest especially for a kid like me.
It is an energy puzzle. The brain consumes the biggest part of energy of the whole body. It seeks efficiency in order to not waste energy. It is easier or it takes less energy to hold on to an idea/vision you have than to replace it with a new one or a correction. So the brain fights this overwriting of a previous idea: energy (survival for the brain) is more important than truth in this way. That makes it very difficult to change your mind about something. That is the reason why people are holding on to information they heard first, even if it was a lie or if we know better by know.
The brain is a mess. So it easily makes messes of forming accurate conceptions of the modern world.
This sounds like evolutionistic bs. If Evolution is true, then how come no species has come close to our complexity and how come we are getting weaker over time?

I am human being, I simply like to entertain an idea...
In September 2016, The Guardian reported that there had been a huge "spike" in hate-crimes against Eastern Europeans in Britain since the Brexit vote, and highlighted the death of Arkadiusz Jóźwik, who died in a late-night fight in Harlow, Essex, which they called a "suspected hate-crime". They repeated these allegations in a series of articles. But when the case eventually came to court, the verdict was that Jóźwik's death was the result of a drunken brawl, not a "hate crime attack". The source of the figures about a so-called "spike in hate-crime" was just a single police statement taking figures from a website called True Vision where anonymous reports can be made without proof. Many complaints are of a petty nature e.g. verbal disagreement. The police noted that over a four-day period, the previous figure of 54 had risen to 85. So 31 allegations made without proof were reported as a national "spike" in hate-crime.

@@2deepdowntherabbithole176just like the horizon isn't flat, it just seems to be to only your eyes, just as railroad tracks don't actually converge in the distance but appear to...water isn't level either. It curves with the Earth.
The biggest failure in logic I notice with flat earthers is a total inability to understand how large the spherical Earth actually is and therefore to understand how gradual the curve. You are TINY compared to the Earth. The Earth is not small, and it doesn't curve suddenly.
There is not a single solitary thing you can show that implies the Earth is flat. If you knew high school maths, you would understand why.
@@SolidSiren horizon means horizontal
@@2deepdowntherabbithole176
Horizon doesn't "mean horizontal". The word "horizontal" comes FROM the word "horizon", and they are related, but horizontal simply means "related to the horizon", and "horizon" simply means a boundary of our view. It means "limiting (circle)" in Greek. Horizon comes from Horus and its root. Horus means "distant one", and horizon means "in the distance", or "the far boundary". And in geometry, yes, it means at a right angle to the vertical. And in astronomy, it refers to a linear or a circular or spherical boundary.
But none of that is relevant. It's a word assigned to the point at which we can no longer see things. The word is irrelevant to this debate, many words have many meanings and were chosen long before modern science- but, *even the ancient Greeks understood the proofs of the spherical Earth*. Horizon implying a straight line doesn't make it actually a flat, straight line on the Earth. It *appears* straight.

It makes a difference when an example is mentioned to corroborate a concept which is here the importance of associating Philosophy with Universal Values. After using W0RDS for decades, an evolution, for better or for worse, is tangible. When intending to use this system the first time on a personal mode all I had to do was purchase a Compaq disk and the programming could be easily achieved off line: this was followed by a capacity to use this mean of expression for years to follow! Things are very different today and difficulties have been faced to do the same thing with no other option but to do it on line: this goes further now with a repeated request, pop ups requiring to get connected. The directions towards expanding from personal to global interfere in comparison with an unchallenged usage of what was taking place previously. Slowly but surely, our individuality is being challenged rather than being promoted. Science can get used to try to match the detailing of Universal Values demonstrate by DNA science: the will to take over detailing is not associated by the kind of balance we find in nature, but by a will associated with technological dominance. It has become a major challenge to face this issue with awareness before letting go of principles sustaining and promoting non-scientific Humanities.

Well, the point of the video is exploring what it is about the human brain that makes us susceptible to accepting misinformation. Every single one of us has believed something that turned out to be untrue but identifying that in ourselves is the only way to get better at avoiding it.
