You can see the potential here and why once Tina cleaned it up, it was such a great song. I can see why she said what she did about it but that's more just the vocal.
Exactly! Not trying too sing it as himself, but giving her an idea of what he envisions her doing with her voice in each part of the song. She said the demo was "The Worst", but it challenged her as a singer.
Parts of this sound punchier than Tina Turner's version. The drums sound better, too. It doesn't sound like Bono is singing seriously. Imagine if he did...
Part of me prefers the synthesised sounds here to the big band instrumentation of the final song. Some of the riffs/motifs just seem to come out clearer
Well apparently she wasn’t very impressed by the song? But after talking it out for a walk,as it were, she got a feel for it,and said she sung it her way and we got another classic song by Tina and another hit!❤️😎👍
It’s not as bad as the “Rock and roll” true story made it out to be 🤣, production quality is down of course. Demo’s aren’t going to have proper mixing and added qualities of a studio release
@@coyoteartist I can think of maybe three songs that sounded on par/better than the finished versions. But most of the time, a demo really doesn't measure up. Especially a demo of a song that Bono and Edge aren't actually making for the band.
As a demo it needed nothing more...job done, the song was eventually delivered and was a hit.
Think Bono was still in MacPhisto mode when he recorded the demo vocal here

I never imagined that this demo by U2 existed. EXCELLENT!!! thanks for sharing.
Bono is even doing a Tina impression with his his voice. That is usually a sign when somebody wrote a song with a single person in mind.
Shirley Bassey
He instructed Tina on how to deliver the vocals.
*In fact this is the demo she learned from~

It's also kinda his Mr. MacPhisto voice from Zoo TV!
It's good enough for a demo.
This is ridiculous. I love it
In my Tina playlist with the final version. Thanks for the upload!
This isn’t bad at all. It’s a demo man haha
Sounds Great! Cleaned Up very well! sounds like some parts were added, but improved it!

Bono sings it with Mc Phisto's voice like he did on Zoo TV tour 92/93
Supposedly he had some throat issues when the demo was recorded.
@@stefan33ukwould love him to sing it at there vagas residencey
This would have been perfect for Billy Mackenzie of the Associates.
Tina's version of course!
Power and control!!
Rock n roll.
True, Bono is always Out of Control.
Still sounds pretty good
I wish I could have seen Tina's first reaction to this

It's not that bad. WTF?
Yeah, cos Tina Turner was talking outta her ass
Hardly compares to the original
Mmmmmm.... nice 🙂
Better than turner.
Mr Mc Phisto in the Mic...
blimey this is a demo?? no way..
Best song in Bond catalogue in my opinion. Well ok, The Look of Love is better but this comes close.

yeah, i dont see why Tina wouldnt see the potential nor the interpretation she could bring to the song. i mean its really a damn good raw material.
@@manuelpuente7336 100%!
Adam and Larry had nothing to do with this song.
Are you sure
@@jonbourgoin182 It's just Bono and Edge.
They were too busy with the Mission Impossible theme.
Rather flat version compared to Tina Turner's. But still cool.
This is the original demo not a version..they wrote this for Tina. The original is never a version..it's the orginal
I absolutely hate U2 but strangely feel myself drawn to this.
Weird. What did U2 do to you?
Do you really hate U2, or just one of those folks who find Bono annoying for trying to do good?
I think this is your sign to give them another chance. Listen to Achtung Baby front to back, then come back here
@@brianshoemaker7236 he makes me embarrassed to be Irish. What's he done for you to make you love him so much?
@@GeorgeSikorski122 I might actually do that!
Sid from Rock n Roll True Stories sent me...10 seconds in and I knew it was awful
It's a demo. What do you expect.
@@SomeGamesAreTooFun There are demos out there as good as polished songs, so it's never a given.

Better than the Turner version.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you having a laugh this sounds like a Karaoke version hahaha

No it isn’t😂
