- Mahler’s First Symphony undoubtedly lives up to its courageous nickname, “Titan," that Mahler gave early versions of his work. In the composer’s own words, the music narrates “a strong, heroic man, his life and sufferings, his battles and defeat at the hands of Fate.” Watch the Los Angeles Philharmonic conquer this audacious finale excerpt under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel.
An excerpt from Mvt IV from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1
Performed by Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic
Recorded on October 6, 2022 at Walt Disney Concert Hall

The viola phrasing, is just wonderful!!! And the a la stick pizzicato strings cue!!! Followed by epic muted trumpet fanfare!!! Then the greatest crash cymbal climax!!!! THEN HOLY GOD LIKE HORNS!!!!! This is sheer perfection.
Wonderful! Please release the whole recording, would be great to compare with the recording from his inaugural concert.
This is by far the best rendition of the ending of this symphony played in a long time. Definitely a definitive performance 💯👏🎶🎧🎵
not even close to the best……
@@tip3y592exactly just random tempo after random tempo
Dudamel conducts the bloody woodwind trill with his damn hair.... He's a bloody genious 😂🤣
I'd actually pay a lot to just see him conduct with his hair only. No baton, no waving arms, just him shaking his head. I seriously think he could pull it off...
Maravilhoso este maestro, sublime sua condução!!!!!!!❤
wow - every time I think I've heard this symphony performed to sheer perfection, someone comes along and tops it - bravo Maestro Dudamel and LA Phil
Thank you. Best ending of all the Mahler symphonies, imo.
BRAVO!! Best version yet!!!!!!!!!
I miss going to see these live. I wish they had paid subscription so I can view from home.
Those are not easy passages for the orchestra, especially at that tempo, but they nailed it. Maestro Dudamel's phrasing and separation of musical thoughts is wonderful. I'm looking forward to seeing the entire performance.
Bravo!
BRAVO!!!
Just...WOW!!!! ❤
Fantastic! Bravo!
Increíble Gustavo y orquesta en el corazón... Magnífica interpretación
El mejor director del mundo Gustavo Dudamel.
MARAVILLOSO!!!!!, Y grandiosa obra!!. Vivan la orquesta y el Director!!❤
A brief video is posted to UA-cam of Dudamel conducting Mahler's 9th in the place he'll be starting in 2026. As for long-time popular canon composed by John Williams & performed in LA & Vienna (by either Dudamel or Williams himself) is also posted to YT. The talent & skills of musicians & a conductor are affected by the space around them.
WOW! Bravo!!
LA Phil should offer digital subscription like the Berlin Phil.
fyi the horns are supposed to all stand up per Mahler's score.
Danke, das mit den Hörner wusste ich nicht.
BRAVO!! 👋👋👋
Sounds great
Nice and soft and warm.
Question
Why are all the players with Masks??
That’s what you’re focusing on?
I had the same question.
Adorável em todos os sentidos e esse estupendo Maestro!!!!!!!❤
INMENSO MAHLER ........LA MUSICA DE DIOS ¡¡¡.....THE MUSIC OF GOD ¡¡¡¡¡.......I LOVE MAHLER ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🎼🎼🎵🎵❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely lovely interpretation! The slower tempo was very new for me. Although I sometimes felt like the percussion clipped in the recording?
Дюдамель крутой конечно! аж мурашки от него
The artistry of the musicians is off the charts. I have an issue with some of the tempi, but otherwise, marvelous. Bravo Tutti.

It’s casual…😳
Les masques sonnent bien!
어딜가나 브라보맨들이 문제구나.. 한국만의 문제는 아니군
Amazing just why are the strings all wearing masks was this fact during the scam or afterwards
I am sorry, Audience's reaction is too impatient...
Perhaps I will never understand the hype associated with Dudamel, even more so after hearing him live on multiple occasions. It really makes me question the critical listening ability of today's concertgoers and UA-cam watchers. Let the comments come forth of "oh, like you could conduct this any better?" or "some people are so miserable they can't appreciate true beauty" but I stake my claim, Dudamel is a PR success and has very little to offer serious music lovers.
вы профессиональный музыкант?
Can you elaborate?
Very little? Dang it, man. I understand that one might have questions and doubts about some musical decisions, however, to say that he has little to offer speaks more about you than him. Vienna and Berlin have a tradition to keep yet the invite him often, are they deaf as well?
I agree and although Dudamel has done a few good Mahler recordings, this one was rushed like crazy and the fast tempo at the end, spoiled all the grandeur of one of the most epic "First" symphonies in the repertoire.
Hm, I am very undecided about Dudamel. I heard him with Mahler 2 two years ago and was not completely impressed. Tonight it´s going to be Mahler 6 with the Berliner Philharmoniker and I am curious because it´s one of my favorite symphonies and I have high expectations.
Nice playing . . . but why IN THE WORLD are the string players wearing masks?!?!?! 🤣😂🤣😂🙄
Anyone that is not a wind player has a mask on. My question is - by actual statistics, how much more did the wind players get sick than the masked players? Was there any difference at all?
fwiw, the recording is from Oct 2022. However, even over a year ago the sight of people wearing face masks in various places was similar to seeing them wearing one while driving alone in a car. Or when outdoors jogging all alone in a quiet park. Which I've seen, particularly between 2020-2021, less so 2022.
Because of being in Los Angeles.
Imagine feeling the need to wear a mask in 2023 😂

2022 fall.
Bravo!
