Upcycling Vintage Embroidery in a Hotel Room!

- This project grew out of forgetting a sewing project when visiting a hotel for a long weekend. It was a case of "as do as you can with what you have". The fabrics I used were bought in a charity shop in the local town, where I was staying. The project started on the hotel bed and was finished at home. The end result is a small embroidered drawstring bag, using only blanket stitch and the sewing machine.
This project can be executed by hand, with out a sewing machine, with any printed fabric that has small motifs.

Love the way you appreciate the time people spent on these projects.
Ah, thanks for that comment, Magdaster. I think it's nice to be respectful of the time and energy someone's put into these things. 🦋🌷
Hi from Australia, I totally get how you feel about chopping up the linens! I’ve been collecting to start slow stitching but I just can’t bring myself to cut them! I love your little bag. At least you can appreciate the work now every time you use the bag 😊
Hi from kent in Uk. You're a long way from where I am. Isn't the internet fabulous - bringing so many of us together? I am actualy next to some of my linens and I am starting to feel that maybe I should give them another life, but it's so difficult to make the first cut!! so pleased you like the bag :-)

Hi, yes the internet is great for that. So wonderful we can come together with a common interest. I still haven’t sliced anything yet 😆 I really want to but then the historian in me says no! 😱

This was so nice to do. Yes, I would believe you ve been to Eastbourne. It was the new cinema, but the old cinema I used to go to when I was a student , The Curzon, is still there but recently sold. Can t wait to see what you do with this project! 😁 xx
Happy New Year. Hope your move went well. Lol 💓x

Hi Sonia. This was a joy to make. It grew out of just needing something to make. It was so easy to make and looked better the more I added. It was quite peaceful sitting in a hotel room, without distractions- heavenly! Well, for a night or two anyway😁
This is SO beautiful Teresa.
Thanks Vanessa. Where s yours? 🤣
I love this idea!! Cant wait to do this! And your vacation location looks amazing💖

Go to Eastbourne a few times a year to visit relatives. The charity shops are brilliant, they are all in the same street so you can flit from one to another!
Love the idea of cutting up vintage pieces for appliqué. Great!
Hi Sue. So sorry for the delay in replying. You know Eastbourne too? It's beautiful isn't it? I lived there for three years during my student days. so part of my heart is there and although it's changed - it's not changed too much. I like to visit as much as possible. I always spend a good amount of time in the charity shops - there's usually some good textile finds in that area. We might have bumped into each other Sue. I was the lady being arrested in the High Street! ha, ha, ha, (NO! Not really!)
That always takes some bravery for me. I wouldn't have dreamed of doing it once, but I am slowly changing. It's always good to recyle and upcycle. It just feels so naughty chopping up vintage embroidery! Once gone - it's gone forever!
Beautiful !!! Thanks for sharing 🪡🧵♥️
Hi Liza. Thanks for taking the time to comment. So pleased you like it. It s one of my favourites 😁💐
I love it!
So pleased you like this, Kimcat. It was fun to do especially sitting tucked up in a hotel room! Lol xx
@@allsewnuptextileart I love vintage linens. When ever I go to a thrift store I look for them.I saw the cutest idea for vintage ladies hankies. The person made a valance using them. My friend bought me a scarf made of them, it is very unique. So nice of you to reply to me.
@@kimcat7320That sounds interesting. I have a stack of vintage linens that I'm loathed to cut up but in time they'll just deteriorate. My daughter in law has asked to have them "when I've 'gone' 😮 but there's no point because I am not going anywhere until I am 110 years old - by then those lovely linens will be dust! 😅 I really must be more adventurous with them , thanks for the ideas, Kim. X 🎉
@@allsewnuptextileart I know, I have a huge stack too. I do use the pillow cases on my bed. They are just too pretty not to use. I have a bunch of my grandma's hankies and I do plan to make a valance for my bedroom window. I'm seventy so you know they are old. Here's living to 110!
beautiful
Thank you , Polly 💐
Gorgeous ❤️
Thank you Becky 💐
I love this!!!! Well done :)
Thank you! 😁
Hi Teresa..another super project, given me more ideas..lovely little bags…your poor hand, how many times as that happened to us so sore 😢did l notice a wedding ring? Wishing you all the best ❤
Hi Christine. So pleased you liked this. It was a lovely project to do. The wide, gold wedding ring belonged to my lovely mum who passed a couple of years ago. It's not not on my "wedding" hand yet but... it s due to be moved to the left hand later this year!! 👰💒💍💑 lol The ring currently keeping my wedding finger warm, is a ring I bought my self after my divorce, intended for the right hand! Ha, ha xx
It's beautiful and a great idea to use up those embroidered motifs...but I'm here wondering what happened to the lace you sewed onto the sides?? lol
Hi Robin. You ve given me a challenge to find out what happened to the lace. I need to find that piece and have a look 😁 because I can t remember!!! Lol Ill check it out 😆 Happy New Year xx
I love it
Hi Lee. Thank you for your comment. It s always great to get positive feedback 🦋

Hi Lynn. I was sorry about the lace too. It woukd have finished it nicely. I hope you're well and have nt got this awful flu. Goodness, it was nasty. Thankfully, it seems to be going now. Did you get a phone for Christmas by any chance? 😁 xx
@@allsewnuptextileart Hi Teresa 😃, Nope no phone 😏, father Christmas didn't come here this year 😂😂😂, Joking aside we agreed not to have present's this year , what with having the Bathroom refitted and a car it's a bit much you know , but my Birthday is in March so fingers crossed, if not I'll buy myself the bloody thing 😂😂😂🤣🤣, Joking, hope your ok now , Hubby's had that bug and my uncle but touch wood I've not got it yet , which is some miracle as I do catch everything 😂😂,.
