I went to college at NDSU in the 70s and 80s. I ended up living there in Fargo for 9 years. It was kind of an adventure when I was young, but haven't been back in 40 years, and I don't miss it.
I moved to Fargo 6 years ago from the south… I honestly love the cold and snow… the coldest winter that I witnessed moving here was the 2018-2019 winter season, it got to negative 60, lots of blizzards and a record total of 52 inches of snow…. I pay $1,220 for a 2 bed 2 bath apartment in west Fargo

Oh, I feel for you, moving to Fargo in January. I was born and raised here so I always like to hear what people from other areas think of the place. It's not paradise but as you've mentioned there are plenty of good things about the area. But yes, winters are chilly. If you've got the proper clothing and a good car winters aren't that big a deal, though I wouldn't mind if they were a little shorter. Good insights, thank you.
I've lived in Fargo for 7 years, and I've lived in ND/MN my whole life. I want to move elsewhere, but the job security and cost of living is too difficult to give up in these chaotic times. The winters are NO JOKE though. Coldest I've experienced was -50F, and 30mph wind on top of that. And yes, I still went to work that day. That was 1 time, but its -20s for at least a week every winter. Also, Vit D supplements are a requirement here.
I remember having to work that cold AF day too. Bunch of us had dead batteries when they let us go home. It's fun switching out a battery in that weather.
My dads fam are from the area (ND/MN), love 4 seasons, I'm born and raised like this. BTW, I live in Scandinavia, exactly same climate. Love Fargo, nicest people ever ever, can't believe I'm still in Europe.
Completely accurate, moved to Fargo 3 years ago. I knew the winters were going to be cold and snow-filled but I did not expect the wind 😂 it is definitely much more affordable than where I lived before, I find the smaller city rather peaceful. People are definitely kind and willing to help (especially when stuck in the snow, never had to wait long for someone to help dig me out). And I like that it is easier to save money so I typically take a few weekend trips in the winter to get out of the cold.
You really did a great job of fairly describing Fargo. I just moved away for better weather 6 months ago, but as soon as my lease is completed I will be returning as fast as I can. But I do have something to add from personal experience. For Veterans considering Fargo for a place to live, it has far and away the very BEST VA I have ever been enrolled in. I have experienced the Cleveland, Ohio VA (Louis Stokes), the Johnson City, Tennessee VA ( the James Quillen death trap!), as well as the Wyoming VA system, and though Cleveland and Wyoming weren't bad, Johnson City is AWFUL, the Fargo VA is awesome and in a class by itself!! One of the main reasons I will be running.....not at my age😂...moving back in 6 months. Just something I have found to be a big factor for Veterans considering relocation.
I spent a month in Fargo in 2021. The people there are the friendliest in the USA imho . Like being able to drive 20 minutes and be in the middle of nowhere. But I’m old 😂. Except for the winters I’d move there in a heartbeat . Winter scares me a little
I plan to move to ND next month because of inflation, I'm a CNA with two kids and I don't get any government assistance. I'm so tired of being broke for paying bills and paying cash for groceries. I'm from Chicago and am currently living in Minnesota. I cried myself to sleep one night and woke up and googled cheapest places to live in the world and it showed me ND and Wyoming. Since I'm already here in Minnesota I'm gonna go with ND . The rent is very affordable , I plan to move there, save 80% of my income and build wealth and Business for my kids future!! I will admit I will not stay in ND permanently but it will be for a few years 🤑🥰
I currently am back with my father in Hapeville, GA. Due to being out of work for nearly 3 months now. In the Atlanta area, ugh, traffic, and trying to get a job is very challenging down here. Crime and cost of living is going up here in Georgia! Homelessness in Atlanta (You can see increasing number of Tent cities along I-20 through downtown!) I want to leave and move to North Dakota for a fresh start! My uncle has land out in Havana, ND. And he tells me jobs up there pay more and its a slower pace of life up there compared to down here in Georgia which is having a huge inflow of people moving here and not making it better for people like me who prefer a quiet, happy life! I prefer colder climates. I miss the snow. Used to go play up there as a kid when my uncle would fly me up there to visit when in my younger days. I don't like the excess humidity and heat down here in the South. Too many bugs, and mosquitoes! And other diseases! Also allergy season is worst down here. I'll take the North over this Southern climate!
I have lived in Bismarck and Fargo. Between the two, Bismarck seemed warmer. It always felt windier in Fargo with it being so flat. So true as to lack of diversity. It is getting a more diverse population, but I think the winter does tend to put people off. Makes the summers all the better.
I was born and raised in Fargo and I think this is spot on, though I’d say you are being generous/kind! Total lack of culture and diversity -though better than anywhere else in ND for that. Dating is awful unless you enjoy beer, hunting, fishing, and conservative politics. The summers are so dang humid; the nicest season is fall. I’d say safety is the biggest plus. I’m curious where you moved to?
Mariah, Is there an International Airport IN Fargo? I'm in Canada and would like to visit and stay for at least 2 weeks in Fargo. Also can you please let me know about a few hotels? Thank you very much.
I’m thinking of moving but the cold winter is the only thing scaring me 😢😢 send help 😅😅 how cold will it get and will I survive lol 😅😊 thanks for the video. ❤

Alright I don't think I wanna ever move there 😂 I grew up where it gets cold, but I've lived in Palm Springs for the past couple of years, my ac is at 72 degrees right now, and I'm pretty cold.... lmao
I just recently started thinking of ND lately. I’m intrigued because I NEVER hear anyone talking about this state - EVER! Winter is my favorite season, so I know I would love it here. If you compare the affordability with the average wage, it's going to be less. Most jobs in ND pay an average of $18 - 20. If you add the cost of rent, that's half your paycheck, not including other expenses.
Fargo is a corporate city. You feel like a robot working for them. The pay is good but they work you to death. People from all over the planet work and live here in peace. People stick to their own culture. Hard to date. Public transportation is ok but only runs 6 days a week. When it snows buses stop running at sunset. Good International restaurants and grocery stores. Winters are awful and can last 9 months a year. Good for people in their twenties to work until they turn 40 and quit from exhaustion to move back down south.😢
No girl you exposed Fargo. Now the prices are going to go up due to people moving here lol jk. Yh the rent here is low and there is a lot of job opportunities.
College students should NOT be paying $1,000 on a apartment! Teach your children financial responsibility, so they can be millionaires by the time they are in their 30's.
In most of the country apartments are over a $1,000. Only those that get a million from daddy become millionaires these days. A nasty mold filled apt in a house can cost $600. Newer apartments cost over a $1,000.
How bad is the racism there? I heard frim a former resident that it's bad, and Moorhead being worse. Is it directed to Black Americans, Somalis, or Asians?
Unfortunately I cant give you an idea of Fargo, but I can give you an idea about North Dakota, as I live in the Capital. I am a high schooler, and there is some racism towards latin americans but I havent seen any towards black Americans. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist I just haven’t witnessed it yet. Generally, North Dakotans are a good bunch and should you find yourself in a situation where you are being discriminated against, there are probably enough who would step up and say something to back you up.
