I’ve been living in Fargo Moorhead area for 8 years now and I can’t wait to move out! What made me stay here was great schools, safe community and affordable cost of living. Other than that I find Fargo Moorhead a very boring place to be. The biggest reason I want to move asap is the cold long winters. “Overall it’s not for everyone 🥶”

I agree. The F/M area is boring and not much to do. Rent used to be lower, however, rent's been going up as well. We are also looking to move to twin cities.

Do you have a video about the apartment complexes, and apartment living in Fargo? Do you have a video about senior-services and senior apartments in Fargo? I like 4 seasons, and winters. Does Fargo have many power- or gas-outages during the winter?

Meagan Oye is painting a pretty picture of the Fargo metro area and it could attract ten of thousands of people from California and New York and other states; and it will cause a severe housing shortage very quickly!

My question for everyone here, I’ve been out of Fargo the past 2 years. I know cost of living have gone up, but have wages gone up proportionately? If yes, then the rise of cost of living is not that bad then.

We are retired - and we relocated here from the twin cities. We are originally from NoDak and wanted to return. Yes, the winters are cold. But, there is So much to do here and it is all so accessible ... the people are great, the living is easy and enjoyable. LOVE LOVE LOVE Fargo!

I grew up in Minnesota lakes country about an hour from Fargo and I live here now. I have some pros and cons to add. One big pro for me is that Fargo has one of the best VA Medical Centers in the country. I get all my health care from the Veterans Adminstration and so far they do an outstanding job of providing medical services. I'm not sure if that will continue because politicians have been syphoning off funds to pay private health care providers which might weaken some of these great services. The VA is just concerned with your health and how to get the best outcome for you rather than asking for tests and procedures you don't need in order to make more money. Also, if you are a retiree, you need to know that North Dakota does not tax Social Security. Another pro about Fargo is that, for the most part, the people are friendly and responsible. There are limits. If you come there to sell illegal drugs and make trouble, law enforcement and the courts will have no sympathy for you based on your difficult upbringing. These are people who's ancestors struggled to make a living out on the harsh prairie before selling out and moving into town. They know about difficult upbrining. Likewise, when you don't return your shoping cart to the cart corral, you might not get a New York confrontation, but you will seriously get the evil eye. At he same time, if you fall on the ice in the parking lot, immediatly there will be four or five people there helping you. Cons: Make sure you have a good, reliable car even if you don't go out of town. During a fairly common blizzard, when the wind is blowing 45+ miles per hour and the snow is blowing hard, even in town it can be very dangerous. Locals know that the wind chill can kill you in the matter of a few short minutes. There are times when you might not be able to leave Fargo by road transportation for up to two weeks. Be patient. Your life depends on it. Surprisingly, airplanes fly during much of this weather so if you have to get to Minneapols, take Delta ot United. I'm from the lakes area but I don't see that as having much allure any more. I grew up in the 1950s when there wree many quiet, secluded places you could find to enjoy the water or to do some camping and find some solace. Since that time there has been an intense real estate boom that has developed every inch of shoreling with very little restriction by the counties until it was too late. Many of the lakes have become urban areas clustered around water with many of the same problems of noise, garbage, crime, property disputes and inconsiderate use of resources without the funds or personnel to control it. I'm getting too old to paddle my kayak on the Pelican River which you can still do for free but that's something you should try. The DNR has really improved that section of the river by taking out the dam in Pelican Rapids and naturalized the flow of the straam.

@@bryanemmel6516 thank you for those additions! Travel certainly can get a little dicey during certain months of the year. 🥶 best to stay on the cautious side with that. I’m glad to hear you’ve had a good experience with the VA!

I appreciate your attempt to cheerlead for your city, however, I strongly disagree. I moved here while married and lived there after divorcing. The only activities I observed in 2 years, were partying and tattoos. I saw a lot of cheating and drug use. I work in the medical field. It was impossible to find friends as I found it very "clique-y" so only socialized with some family members. Coworkers weren't interested in friendships unless it was at a bar. Also, locals know you do not go out to eat or do any shopping over the weekend, unless you want to get lost in the long lines everywhere because ALL of the small towns converge over the weekends to do their shopping and "big city" adventures. Coming from a twin city suburb, I'm used to the cold. I found a complete lack of museums, zoos, etc. I did go to the library try often.

@@Mrs.Mensah0110. Thank you for re-enforcing my original response!! Rather than being able to hear someone else's experience, the Fargo response is once again be rude. I did not say I couldn't make friends. I said everything revolved around alcohol. I do not drink. I have moved to other states and did not have the same experiences in them. It is alright to disagree or think differently than others but no need to be rude. My original comments were once again proven!

@@elainasoma7282 I guess your mentioning of “clique-y” could be accurate. We tend to be very loyal and protective of our town. Us locals have experienced a recent influx of newcomers and that can often lead to droves of people that do not hold the same level of respect/love for our community that we do. Some newcomers are wonderful additions (in fact, my new husband is from Ghana, Africa), but to the ones who complain and don’t like it here, I will repeat myself…. See ya 👋

having lived in Fargo ND my whole life I may be able to add a bit here. We are not a diverse community but we have come a long way since the 1990s. this is probably a product of my job but when I travel I do notice things especially things like gender expression are more open than here in Fargo. That being said we also don't have the same history of say MSP and racial segregation. I have not heard any of the same complaints, not saying it doesn't happen, just if it does its not overt.
Obviously ND is a consertive state and being a liberal you think I would hate it here. So long as I don't make politics a problem I have found most people willing to listen so long as you don't make a big fuss about things. I don't know if you would put that in a plus or minus category. I would say plus given the vast majority of encounters I have had are people who I would consider in moderate center, at last as far a conversation goes. That being said politics here, like every where else can be devisive epically if one party wants to make is so.
As a gamer the cold never bothered me, it tend to stay inside. we bought our first home in 2019, got a $10,000 grant from the state. not planning on moving in the next 10 years. I found it affordable on our income, we are extremely middle class.
Job market is always hot but tends towards low paying retail and restaurant jobs. Not saying we don't have other jobs but just because we have one of the lowest jobless rates doesn't mean we have a lot of wealth either.
#1 reason I like Fargo: it is so boring here. Has a habitual follower of the news I can say that is a net positive.
