    I had a really bad case of food poisoning during a visit to Thailand. I had stuff coming out of me at both ends for hours and hours. After I was emptied, my stomach was very jittery and all I was able to get down for almost 4 days was water and maybe a couple of bananas. At that point, I was very hungry and finally had to force myself to some food. I chose a dish that I didn't think would be too spicy. Was I wrong! It was very hot but being starved, I managed to get about 4 tablespoons of rice with the sauce into me. Ten minutes later, I was 100% cured! Hot food really does settle the stomach!

    Fact 6 explains why I'm one of the rare people who experiences burn when I pee after eating extremely hot peppers. Also I melt my face off at least one meal a day and I've only been sick twice with a cold since 2009. I'm 52 years old so I joke with people saying that I've already caught everything at my age! The truth may very well be the herbs and spices and hot peppers I eat daily. Just saying.

      I have had a similar experience. I eat a lot of "spicy" food and add my own hot spices. Also lots of garlic, Greek olive oil and butter. Really strong health, despite stress. I was sick twice this year and couldn't do anything. It felt like a bad flu. Had the Corona finally caught up with me? This was the first serious infection in 10 years. First time in January 2023 and then again in April 2023, which is quite unusual for me.

    Awesome fact filled video Shaun! The boat load of reading available in your resource listing is a complete bonus! I had a general awareness of positive health benefits within the native populations in the southwestern part of the states here. But generally that would be old data now. One curious feature to perhaps keep in mind is the negative health consequences associated with the typical westernized diet. At one time a general observation could have suggested that a diet rich in hot spicy foods seemed to lead to a much healthier system overall. I suspect a mere glance at the growing waistline of many populations would lead to the understanding that good peppers are lacking. Any follow up to these studies or new trials could be very interesting when available. Stay Spicy! -Bob...

      Habaneros taste amazing! All of them from yellow to chocolate... Some say they are superhot but that's a myth. I make my own sauces and ferment chilies for up to 3 yrs. This year I decided to add ONE trinidad scorpio to a 1kg mash of habaneros. A bit more evil hot but still tasty. My problem with superhot chilies is the taste. There's verry little taste and a lot of burning sensation. So this year I'm experimenting with superhot sauces that actually taste good. Next year I'll try to crossbreed different superhots with different habaneros...

    I use capsaicin (0.07%) cream several times a day for postherpetic neuralgia (ongoing pain after shingles). Over two years now.
    But the narration could sound as it it can be used in the acute blistering phase of shingles. And, while I didn't try it because I had not researched at that point, I doubt that is a good idea. Indeed, I suspect ot is an awful idea!
    Currently (2023/2024) the only UK-licensed capsaicin cream is unavailable and won't return until at least 2025. So I buy my own Hansaplast ABC Warme Cream from Germany. Price is manageable and I buy about 8 at a time. Reckon about a tube a month.

    The "bad" cholesterol part I laughed at and funny how people still don't realise the whole lipid theory is a lie based on selective results from a study to prove cholesterol or certain fats, specifically animal fats are bad. Cholesterol lowering drugs have not made a difference in something like 98% of people who identified at being at risk of a heart attack or another heart attack. Meaning low "bad" cholesterol had no impact on the outcome of cardiovascular diseases. It's most likely that you have inflammation of some sort that needs to be reduced.
    Cholesterol is like a band-aid and more a potential indicator of something is wrong or there is too much inflammation and oxidative stress in your body. Too much stress could be created by your diet, incorrect nutritional intake with intense or heavy training or physical activity, or just from general life and work. Association does not imply causation. It's a basic fact. Saying cholesterol kills is the same as saying that many people who get fatally injured on the road chewed gum in their lifetime, therefor the chewing gum was a factor to their demise.
    Perhaps then, rather than looking at "bad" cholesterol, look at what the chilli's improved in your diet with regards to inflammation and oxidation. Seeing as peppers has lots of vitamins, this could already have been a market of providing your body with a better chance or reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.
    You aren't what you eat, you are with what your body does with what you eat.

    Another natural plant that has so many benefits... I'm surprised that they haven't tried to make it illegal like Hemp

    I absolutely love your channel. in your experience what is the best way to ripen cayenne indoors? I'm in Canada zone 5B and this year got a huge amount of cayenne peppers but solid green and our season is almost done. Any advice to ripen them faster so I can make sauce?

      Thank you! To help ripen your chillies, as long as they are fully grown...get them somewhere cool. This will speed up the ripening process. Same thing happens naturally outdoors as we go into Autumn

    Excellent video with actual research, it is much better than the usual bragging about chili doing miracles and such.

    Hi Sean, great video and thank you. One question: does this research only apply to fresh chilli or does it include cayenne pepper for example or other dried chilli products?

    • @ChilliChump
      @ChilliChump  2 роки тому

      Thankfully capsaicin is present even when the chillies are dried. So the benefit is still there. Many of the studies were done on the consumption of chillies, but some were done with isolated extracts of capsaicin.

      @@ChilliChump Many thanks for the supa-quick reply. I did see one 'alternative' health person state she had prevented a serious heart attack by administering half a tea spoon of cayenne pepper in water and prevented a serious outcome. Maybe a chilli a day keeps the doctor away, not the apple.

    Great informative video .
    I’m just wondering , does all that burning heat In your throat and stomach from eating super hot chillies have any negative effects on your body? For example ulcers and can it trigger heart problems.

    • @RFabs89
      @RFabs89 2 роки тому

      Quite the opposite, according to Shaun's research. For me, the easiest was to understand the burn of chillies is that it is a false alarm: the receptor that Shaun talks about is programmed to respond to the capsaicin to warn us of potential danger. However, the burn is only an irritant and has no damaging effects on the body's tissue, thus it remains a false alarm..

    Great research, great video! We'll all live until we're 100! 🌶💪Do you need to consume raw peppers for these potential benefits or will the vitamins disappear if you turn your peppers into sauce? The capsaicin I guess will still be around or hot sauces would just be sauces 🤣

    • @ChilliChump
      @ChilliChump  2 роки тому

      The capsaicin should be good regardless of how it is processed. There will be a little degradation with some methods, but most capsaicin will still be present.
      With regards to vitamins....again depends how you process them
