Hi Melissa. I love your tutorials because they are short, straight to the point and easy to understand and believe me, at my age, that is soooo important! LOL. Thank you 👏👏😁👍😘❤️️🇦🇺
A side note . . . The volume on your video is outstanding. You've been the ONLY video that I've come across that I don't have to set my volume at the very highest level to hear!!!!❤❤❤
Finally!! An easy and well-explained binding process! I taught myself to quilt, but have always struggled with the binding, especially the corners. I think this baby quilt turned out to be my best so far.
Yay we're so happy you found this helpful! Binding is definitely a tricky part of quilting, but with more binding comes more experience. You got this! 😄
Thank you! I've been quilting for 40 years, I have a learning disability and have never been able to bind this way. I even took a class on it and came away with nothing. You get 5 stars! I made a placemat today and binder it perfectly!
Excellent tutorial. I've been quilting for 45 years and yet I learned three tips from your "Binding for Beginners" video that have me excited to finish up a few of my small quilts that have been waiting for a binding. And, I really could use some new potholders. Thank you
I needed this! Thank you! I have a stack of pot holders I need to finish for Christmas. I'm VERY new to quilting, trying to pick up the mantle for my Grandma and an Aunt who both passed away this year - I don't think Grandma would approve of this method, but my hand stitching is NOT up to par 😅
I used your video to guide me through my FIRST experience binding a large quilted table cloth. I feel like a super star, it turned out so beautiful! thank you for all the tips and tricks, this video is great ❤
Thanks 🎉 ive watched so many binding vids, but this one is great - includes all info needed including the cutting of the strips without having to use tools from Venus.
Great tutorial. I love how you start and finish your binding. So, so much easier than other videos I have watched. Thank you. You've made binding less "ugh" :)
Glad I found this video. Finally found the way I learned to bind the end together of the binding strips. Will use this video as a refresher when it come time for binding.
Thank you! I'm binding a quilt with so many inside and outside angles that your tutorial made so much easier to handle. The 45° stitch was exactly what I needed to gain the confidence to finish the quilt. Thx!
Your video popped up in my home page. Thank you for this. I love that you tuck in the tail and continue to sew. I will be trying this with my next small project. 😌 thank you! You have a new subscriber!!
Never have done this in my 50 something years of sewing. I just got a new baby lock that does quilting and embroidery and I needed to learn how to do binding. You made it so easy for me. For that I thank you
Thank you for this clear and concise tutorial. I had messed up some of my earlier bindings, but following your instructions I was able to bind a needle book that I was making perfectly. 😊
Thanks for the great tutorial! I've never seen sewing off the corner at a diagonal to help with the mitered corner. That's going to be so great for teaching my students to bind their seatbelt covers.
Love the finishing, so much better with the gap at the beginning. Trying to stuff it in without the gap isn't great, always ended up with a mess! ( Think I've cut my strips too wide, oh no! Out with the cutter again)
Hi, Thank You 😀. I found your binding tutorial and have just used it for the first time - AMAZING ! I can now finish the numerous quilts I have been avoiding because of the binding. Thank You again, bindings are now easy !!
Hi Thea, using a similar color thread to your backing will help the stitches blend in if they aren't perfect. Also if you sew your binding with a perfect 1/4" inch to the back of your project and turn your binding over and feel with your fingers the seam line in the back of the project and try to place the folded edge lined up somewhat to that seam and clip in place and stitch as close to the edge as possible you will get a pretty good looking finish. With practice makes perfect! You will get better each time! I know I sure did! My stitches in the back aren't perfect but perfect enough for me! ❤️
What great timing - I have been practising my sewing by making some placemats in order to give myself a bit of a break from my university work. Now I know how to bind them. Thank you, Melissa. Have a lovely Christmas - looking forward to seeing what you will teach me next.
Hands down the best method I’ve seen! I’ve made 5 quilts in the last three months, I’m enjoying it’s so much and I decided to look further for more quilting tips. This video is by far the best and most easiest to follow. And I’ve learned so many new things. Thanks so much 😁😁
Good morning, thank you for this tutorial. Game changer. I always run in to too much bulk all around and especially the portion where the two ends meet. Truly appreciate your taking the time to share. Liz
Exactly what I thought! I was following along great until she tucked the excess in. After finishing sewing the binding on one side I felt like it flew to the end with very little visual instruction. This may be great for experienced quilters but as a beginner looking for help I feel left behind
What a lovely clear tutorial. I haven’t yet finished a quilting project that needed binding but I have been trying to find a method that makes sense to me and isn’t too complicated. This ticks all the boxes and I can’t wait to try it out 😊
Hi Claire, binding can be tricky when you first attempt it but just go slow and be confident! I remember I would be so scared and let the machine take over. Gotta stay in control of your project!😅 I have definitely come a long way! It's all about the journey! Happy Sewing! 😍
VERY clear directions for a quick binding that is nice for all smaller projects. (Won't use on my larger quilts, though, as I don't like the thread showing on top).
Great Tutorial Meli, Your a fantastic teacher and you gets right down to business. I’m sure this will help a lot of people. I always ❤️ your blocks, beautiful Pot Holders Ta Da ❣️ 🥰🧵🪡✂️🌸💕✨Happy Sewing
Thanks Barbara! I have had these scrappy blocks laying around my house since last March! 😍 Going to give them to my Sister along with the Christmas table runners on Christmas Eve! 😍
Thank you for the tutorial! I am just learning and sewed binding on 2 quilts before your video..the 1st was umm horrible..2nd was better and I tried something similar to this on my own and it was waaay better than the 1st...now with your tutorial.. I'm sure the upcoming mug rugs will turn out so much better!!
This is an outstanding video and very helpful. I am trying to finish my first quilt, and wouldn't have had a clue how to bind it without this help,. One question: when you say to trim any excess fabric & thread before turning the binding to sew the last step I am unsure about something. My 1/4 " seam is quite bulky, so I'm wondering whether I should trim that seam allowance before the last step of stitching the binding on the right side of the quilt, Otherwise, I don't have a lot of binding to show on the right side of my quilt. Thanks in advance.
I like the instructions about the corner and tucking the extra fabric in. I have never made a quilt and I want to get as much information as possible. My question is do you, or can you, bind the quilt squares before assembling the quilt itself?
This is a great question! You do not bind each quilt block, think of this tutorial as if we are showing you a mini quilt in order to show the details of how to bind. (It is also easy to practice on one small quilt block before tackling an entire full sized quilt!) Normally, you will just bind the entire, finished quilt. So you will have many quilt blocks assembled together to form a quilt top, the batting (the middle stuff!), then the backing. THEN you bind all these layers together like in the video. We hope this helps! And happy sewing 😊
Thank you! I especially like your no-muss no-fuss method of connecting the binding. MUCH better than other methods I've seen--especially for smaller project like hot pads and trivets. Question: I still struggle to get the top stitching to line up with the stitches from attaching the binding on the back side. I always have a second line...and I don't love it. lol How do you prevent that?
Thank you! Really informative...can I ask one question - did you change the foot used on your machine before you did your binding? I've a book which suggests using a walking foot, but not sure I have one, or if it matters? Thanks!
Hi Nicola, for the binding, you can either use the walking foot or the Basic Standard Presser Foot. Both can be suitable for the task. I hope this helps! ❣️
Hi Melissa. I love your tutorials because they are short, straight to the point and easy to understand and believe me, at my age, that is soooo important! LOL. Thank you 👏👏😁👍😘❤️️🇦🇺

Glad it was helpful!
This is a brilliant way to bind, so simple, easy, and flawless! Thank you 🙌
Beautiful thanks for sharing ❤
This was super helpful and easy to follow! If anyone's wondering, I've found a 3.75 in wide strip with this method makes a 1/2 in binding.
Oh My Gosh! So doable, thank you.
Wonderful tutorial! I have struggled getting my mitered corners correct, this technique looks fool proof
Super quick and easy! Thank you so much!!

Hi, Thank You 😀. I found your binding tutorial and have just used it for the first time - AMAZING ! I can now finish the numerous quilts I have been avoiding because of the binding. Thank You again, bindings are now easy !!
what does the backside look like? The problem always is having nice stitches on both sides
Hi Thea, using a similar color thread to your backing will help the stitches blend in if they aren't perfect. The easiest way to bind. It was even easier to use bias tape. Will be binding all my quilts this way.

This is exactly how I do my binding, BUT, how does it get sewed so that the back doesn’t look all jacked up? TIA
