Hi Robbie ...I'm watching your series on Yesterday and last week you were in Stoke on Trent which is my city. Thanks for stopping off and saying the people are unpretentious. We are mostly working class, but we are friendly and welcoming. Shame that parts of our city don't reflect that. You seem very down to earth too, thanks for that. 😊
How unfortunate that the cut was closed. The journey was a "there and back trip to see how far it was". A lovely video Robbie. Your filming and commentary told a story. Superb!
Thanks Robbie. You make it look easy. Most narrowboaters have a partner helping them , but you do it all on your own and manage to provide great content, as well.

Just what we needed going into the third lockdown. Made me all blurry eyed to see the inside of a pub after all this time. Please keep up the good work. Vlogs like yours are helping us get through this madness
Thank you for a lively bit of film. Some gorgeous winter colours. Not been up that canal since 1985. A nice bit of memory jogging, thanks for that. Pity about the closure, as the Boseley flight is quite interesting. Take care.
We enjoyed your video so much. You film wonderfully with great angles and lighting. So glad that you share this with your fans. Mark from Michigan and Frank
That was a great trip out Robbie. Thanks for taking us. Smashing filming and shots 👍😃. Standard pub! It was a pub that was open !!!!!😆 but in comparison with pub no 2. He might not survive lockdown 😉. Joan

Great Vlog thanks Robbie. I don’t have a boat but I found my love of canal walking during lockdown and have covered the length of Bridgewater and Peak Forest to date... amazing experiences... Macclesfield is my next challenge so you’ve inspired me and given me lots of views to look forward to... happy boating in 2021 🙏
You cope with the endless vagaries and peculiarities of our ancient canal system with style. I love your optimism. Something tells me you're heading for Tod... keep going!
Best pub we have found in Congleton was The Wonky Pear,. You walked right by it. It's almost next to the railway Inn. It's a fairly new micro pub, and has some wonderful offerings, you will have to try it next time and give your verdict. Hopefully see you again this year on our travels, it was down the 21 when we last past
Reminds me of.....A Tale of 1.5 pubs ! Had rellies visiting and we fancied a meal out at lunchtime. I picked a pub in a village/hamlet I'd not been into - driven past a few times. Parked the car, wandered in - looked promising - bar and a dining room - so, effectively a choice of where we could eat. So I asked bar staff if they could recommend a place to eat (bar or dining room). They recommended the other pub ! (& they were right) They found us a room to ourselves that was neither bar nor main dining room - but cosy. And that's when things went pear-shaped. The minimalist menu was on a simple sheet of A4 - the back of which had been scribbled all over by a kid. The food we got was ok but so little choice. We'll choose to avoid next time ! Still haven't tried the other pub !
Good to see your still cranking. The water point at bridge 68 is marked in the Pearson canal companion . No good if you don’t have one but thought the info may help people thinking which map to get. Once again thanks for all the vlogs.
Morning Robbie, nice to see you out and about shame you could not moor overlooking the valley never mind next time ,then after that you had to turn around lol well take care keep safe,John 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
IS this January? Awesome. I love your imagery and the booting anyway. The sound of your engine is music to my ears. I hope we see more moments of your journey.
Good to see the old bargepole in its element. They could eliminate the shallow bits by sheetpiling the banks and moving the locks from the pound above to a new position beyond the shallows (raising the water level to that of the pound above). You can get pointy stickers at the stationers which you can inscribe with canal notes, like "water point" when it's not on the map. Also this time two pubs for the price of one - much appreciated!
I 'found' your VLOGS during the Nov lockdown - I've been back through them all finally catching up with this, the last one. Thanks for having us along with you, you're very entertaining and a great escape from lockdown blues. I'm looking forward to coming along on your adventures during 2021. Cheers mate, keep safe & well.
Sorry to disagree, Jean. Sixty nine and 3 weeks old here, and a back like a donkey, ........sadly or otherwise, I have to use it every day...........'use it or lose it, as they say'. Have a great weekend.
Hi Robbie. Nice to see the Macclesfield and Congleton area in Autumn. Thanks for explaining about how you tell how much water there is in your tank. Shame about the stoppages. Hope it wasn’t too long in reverse. Nice friendly locals pub for pub of the week. Take care. Nick
Great video, the sped up section was autumnally perfect. A pretty canal, we did a steady week last year around the August Bank Holiday from Congleton to Marple and back. Shame you couldn't go all way through. Stay safe
Hi Robbie You could have stayed on the embankment below Bosley Locks which is one of the finest moorings on the entire system. I am sure that you know this but it is good practice to run water through the hose before filling the tank and it was not clear if you did this. Also, using the barge pole is a lever is a total no no; use it to push as that is where its strength lies. All the best Jeff
Really enjoyed that, great episode. If ever you get the chance when you next go through Congleton and the weather is frosty, have a walk along the Biddulph Valley Way, it's such a scenic walk with the trees creating an ice canopy over you :)
Used to call where you moored The Arches. I moored around Congleton and kidsgrove when I worked in biddulph years ago, cycled to work along the old railway path you were on 😊
Beautiful country along this canal, awesome view of the railway bridge off in the distance. I think that last pub was worthy of 'Pub-of-The-Week', it's open, they have beer (good beer?), unpretentious friendly local crowd. Do they have food? Have to have some good comfort food, cottage pie, bangers & mash for those cold days.
yes I couldn't show it but they did serve some very yummy pub grub. I left the pub early as it was getting too busy - I went for some fish and chips (but by then it was too dark and I was too hungry too film!!)
Some great new sounds going on there Robbie 👌 👍 Had to smile last week. Pulled up for a card activated pump out, and... 'card error' 😄 Smashing camera shots, as always. Champion! Keep safe
No way! Really? Ah wish I could have said hello. Yeah watching that road crossing back it looked much sketchier than I remember so couldn't resist adding in some extra sfx ;^)
I was the first boat moored on the aqueduct. I'd run out of fuel and the day of that rain\hailstorm I was yomping into Congleton with 2 Jerry cans cursing the sky gods. I had planned to go up the Bosley flight but my fuel woes and engine refusing to start again put an end to that. So I spent a month in and around Congleton and eventually made it up the Bosley flight just before Christmas. The Macc is a beautiful canal.

Hi Robbie, just to add to my comment a week ago. I've just today finished watching your 4 BBC series 2, absolutely brilliant !! My wife agreed with me, that it was like standing at the helm with you. Thanks for that. Watched this video again and it reminded me, another way to get yourself of the mud, which we did when on the macc. If you can stand on the Gunwale at the side and while carefully holding on to the hand rail, slightly start a rocking motion. Of course this requires someone at the helm to gently tick over in reverse. Bit difficult on your own I realise. Take care mate.
Robbie have you thought of writing a book of your time and trips on the canal ? cant wait until this current lock down is over sure miss visiting my local canal . Keep on cranking 👍

Robbie the Macclesfield canal being shallow is an issue for boaters but when in my youth I was learning to canoe on this canal it was a real benefit when it came to climbing out of the canal after an unintended capsize.😁
I continuously cruise on the Lancaster Canal which is also very shallow. It could do with dredging but it's not happening. The CRT really get my back up.
Stuck on the boat I watched a documentary recently that said the CRT dredge about 30 miles of canal per year. It would take almost a century to dredge the entire system at that rate. I agree, it's ridiculous, but like everyone else they are starved of funds, and dredging is an expensive business.
You know it's a good pub, when it is the one the locals prefer! We have quite a number of bars in town, mostly that cater to the local University. But one, which has been here for over 100 years, is where us locally born folks go to. Steeped in Irish lore and family history, it is the one place to go when you have a yen to sing Irish drinking songs in a key never before heard, by people who have no business singing. It's glorious! AND!!! They serve Coors :)
Another great video buddy, loved the editing of shots at around 8mins in animals I've how you changed shots when you used the edge of the table in the pubs as a editing trick to change shots. Keep up the great work buddy.

When you find an inaccuracy on a map, a lot of times it was a deliberate thing done so the cartographer can see when his work has been Pilfered to another map.

A tip if you get grounded and didn't know already:
- Put it in fairly hard reverse. This pulls water under the boat and lifts it up a little off the bottom of the canal, so you _should_ be able to reverse off most events of running aground.
