    This was late 80s..early 90s. She was finally free of her Dad's control as a manager from the previous album...she was now a solo artist to call her own shots. • @zerogage877
    @zerogage877 3 роки тому +47

    This was one of those videos that didn't just usher in a new era of Janet Jackson but the 90s itself. Up until this time, you really didn't have a lot of sexuality or a lot of skin from most big artists in their videos, especially ones that started off as young as Janet Jackson did.
    So all through the 80s, she was literally buttoned and buckled up in big jackets and hats than bulky clothes and all of her videos oh, so this was her being free and independent and taking control of her image and her life and her music and it made her one of the most incredible all through the 90s in the 2000 era.

    This was not a 90's song. Even though this video and single was released in 90/91, it was from her 1989 Rhythm nation album. The album was such a smash, she was releasing hits from it for 3 straight years. This was her 7th of 7 ( or 8 if you count the technicality) singles from the album. All 8 singles went to the top 5 and this was her 4th #1-- a rare feat for a 7th singles.
    The technicality (8th single) was the song "State of the world." It was an album only track that started getting a lot of airplay. The record company decided to release it as a radio only single long after radio stations were playing it out. It still managed to make the top 5. You probably won't get a lot of requests for this one since it didn't have a video and most Janet fans are from the MTV generation, but If you listen to the message of that song it's so relevant today.

    Janet Jackson played Penny on "Good Times" when she was a little girl. Then, she was on "Different Strokes" when she was a teenager. She was also in the TV show "Fame". You should look up some clips of those so you'll see the Janet Jackson we grew up with. Janet was everyone's favorite little sister even before her music career started. I think people in general were rooting for her to do well, but when she released "Control" she exceeded all of our expectations. This music video was directed by Herb Ritts and has his iconic visual style. You'll notice similarities to the look of some of his other music videos like Madonna's "Cherish" and Michael Jackson's "In The Closet". Maybe the next Madonna reaction should be "Cherish".

    YEEESSSS!!! You picked one of my absolute favorites by Ms Janet Jackson!
    That billion dollar smile of hers in this clip is something else... and the guys in this video (especially the acrobat doing his thing...) are pure eye candy, as well!
    Got this track on a "Single Cassette" back in the day, and played it in the car so much that the tape started to wrinkle and get loose - nothing a Bic pen (which was the first line of defense, and always kept in the big, faux leather "Cassette Case" I had in my car...) couldn't fix!
    Memories, memories...😄
    "THAT'S THE WAY LOVE GOES" and "WHEN I THINK OF YOU" (among so many others...) were/are also big hits by Ms Janet Jackson.
    Great reaction, Jay - yes, this track demands another listen (or three...), and so does watching this video!

    I adore Janet!! Same age, same generation. That “thing” you saw was Janet growing into a woman, she was no longer that little girl we grew to love. She shocked the world but in a good way! Keep listening to her music and watch her as she grows into this fabulous, not afraid of her sensuality, phenom!! One of my favorite songs of hers before she really started the transformation is “When I Think of You.” Check it out!

    Janet’s got an X factor / natural star quality that’s hard to pin point. I just know it grabs hold and doesn’t let go once you start paying attention to her.

      Janet grew up in a Family that was schooled in Music and Entertainment, so it's only natural that Janet inherited these Gifts at a very young age. If You want to see proof of what I'm talking about, just type 'Janet and Randy Jackson Perform as Kids' into the UA-cam* Search Engine. Even then, You can see that She is a Natural Entertainer!

    Janet had the same producers for a long time. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were her producers so her sound stayed familiar but the way she expressed herself definitely evolved. Before each album there were always discussions about how she was doing personally. Janet said they would talk about everything.

    That high note at the end was all her and through the whole song the vocals were all her to. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis layered her vocals in such away to make it sound like a choir. Janet is a amazing singer, dancer, artist and performer and songwriter and so much more.

    this song was recorded in 1989 for her Rhythm Nation album, but it was released as the 4th single off the album in October 1990, so it's a 90s song made in the 80s. :) But this video, perhaps more than the song, was a turning point for Janet, emphasizing her sexiness and playfulness. Great video!
