Sometimes hearing someone besides the actual songwriter perform the song seems to shine more of a light on the genius behind it. I notice this with many Beatles songs and with YJMBTO it shows how timeless Mike's songs were. This sounds like a legitimate contemporary hit. Nice work.
Really appreciate you taking the time to say that! Yes - I think the song is timeless. Mike is my fav Monkee! I love his songs.
Well done! Nice tribute to Mike Nesmith🥰
Huge Monkees fan. This does it justice. Great job
That means a lot! Huge Monkees fan here too!
Beautiful cover!! Sure Mike is looking down, enjoying this!!
My favorite Monkees song, well done in this updated version.
Awesome song, awesome cover! Thank you, Mr Fifer! I bet Mike Nesmith himself would appreciate your art. RIP Mr Nesmith.
Pregnant Drummer, awesome, great gimmick, great song, my favorite Monkees song, very good
So awesome. Davy, Mike and Peter would be proud.
But not Mickey huh? ;)
Mickey is too LOL
Nicely done... particularly dig that solo. Papa Nez would love it.
Strangely
Great cover, Thanks alot!! Back in the summer of '67, this was the cut that was played on top 40 radio in conjunction with the release of the Monkees' album Headquarters. Strangely, it was never officially released as a single. If it had been, I truly believe it would have transformed the trajectory of the Monkees' career giving them the recognition that they justly deserved.
Such a great little pop song, right? I am surprised to see the traction this cover gets here on youtube as I always thought of it as a deep cut... but it isn't as deep as I thought!
A lovely cover tha highlights the beauty of the original composition.
Oh man. Didn't think my favorite all time Monkees/Nesmith song could get any better, but this is amazing. Thank you so much.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH AWESOME THUMBS ☝!!!!!!!
Better than I was expecting. Enjoyed the whole redition, especially added guitar solo.
Thank you!! RIP Mike Nesmith! We love you!!
Cracking! A great update of a great Nesmith vocal...
Killed it. My favorite Nesmith song - covered wonderfully.
Great cover , am impressed
Especially now
Great cover! I think the most underrated thing about The Monkees is the bass lines.
Thanks Derrick! In my opinion there is a lot of underrated Monkees stuff... but yeah, the baselines included. For this I kind of re-wrote the bassline to be more of like a hypnotic ostinato... like you'd hear on the beatle's revolver. turned out really good. this song is a banger!
@@kyfifer You are talented!
Funny that You Just May Be The One is one of the very few Monkees recordings on which “bass player” Peter Tork actually played bass! More often, he was playing keyboards, guitar, or banjo. But his bass playing on this tune is among the best in the band’s catalog- wish he’d played the instrument more often!
Nice. Each instrument is so clear and distinct! Tks!
Sounds new - creative and the solo expands the song. Excellent engineering choices. Bass line rocks - clean with a dash of old school - sounds like a new song :)
BRILLIANT cover! I am so impressed, the lead was tasteful and Mike would approve! John O'Dacre
Much thanks for the high praise! This song is genius. I like to think Nez would approve of this version - but then the original is SO GOOD!
Tune is just too short - glad you repeated it. Pure class. Nice family. Glad you found her.
Omg love you. This is so awesome you two are just great!!!
countryliving Kathryn thanks so much! I’ve always had a huge affinity for Nez Monkees tunes. This is one of my personal favs.
Excellent. This is not the easiest song to sing or play.
This is a wonderful cover of Nez's song ky ~ I hope he got to hear this!
I hope he would have liked it. I'm a huge Nez fan. Thanks for letting me know you liked it!
THANK YOU GREAT COVER
GREAT cover of a great song!
Wow awesome cover
This was awesome!
GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a good song. What a memory.
Very Nice!❤
Nicely played ….
I just saw a Monkees farewell concert last night so I've been doing a deep dive of Monkees music all day today, and I came across this video. Absolutely fantastic cover, I must say! I especially love that you made this longer with a repeat of the bridge and a guitar solo, that was amazing! Well done, sir! Cheers from Memphis!
Whoa, high praise! LOVE the Monkees. I tried to make it my own. I wanted to give it a "what if this was recorded for the Beatle's Revolver album?" vibe. Glad you liked the solo! Really appreciate your kind words!
That was such a surprising cover. I've been playing it (alone) on my acoustic, no harmonies :-( but it Is such a great song. Love that you strung it out with the extra lead break and all. Oh, and kuods to your partner. Her attitude was like ....'um, I don't know' but her drumming was perfect!
WOW !!! This version of the song is a BIG step up from the original !!! Way, Way, Better !! What's most impressive is that...Instead of 4 or technically 3 (Davey's tambourine doesn't count), It's only two Doing a remarkable job !!! Thank you Ky fifer for posting this wonderful video !!
Wow high praise! I am pretty partial to the original tho ;)
@@kyfifer At any rate...I like how the video expresses Love and the song you chose does that at the core level. Mr. Nesmith had some super fantastic songs great lyrics. On a clowning note: If you ever do another Monkees video...Do the Nesmith sideburns and do the hat. Sort of like a tribute to "The Monkees."
@@captainarcher2 Lol... I could probably pull that off :) Mike's songs are my fav as well.
Hope you do more of them
Huge Monkees fan. I hope to do more. I've got a list a mile long I want to do!
WOW!!! I just recently discovered this song. Been exploring the Monkeys. Grew up hearing "I'm a Believer" and watching their show. This song is awesome and I couldn't stop thinking about how I would make it longer. You did it perfectly perfect!!! Awesome performance... vocal, guitars, drums! Thank you so much! Vielen Dank! Mahalo Nui Loa! Can you tell us about the 6 string?!
Thanks Richard! Yep, I got into the Monkees' deep cuts and this song was an absolute stand-out! Still love a lot of their stuff. I've got other Monkees songs on my to do list!
Thank you for posting. Such an awesome job you both did. How 'bout trying "Sometime In The Morning".
Sometime in the morning is a great tune! I have a few Monkees songs I want to do! I should add that one to my list. Thank you for listening!
Great cover!
Great cover, you nailed it 👌
Thanks so much! I have always loved this song. Nez for the win!
Me too, it's a good song. I love the Monkees.
Guys, this is superb. As good or better than the original!
This is so Great ! Two thumbs up !
Awesome job! I'm sure that Nez himself would have well enjoyed you're improvised leads.
A pretty good cover. Nez would like it.
aw, thanks. I have always loved his songs in particular.
Fantastic (as usual). Great job (also like the drumming)
Ton Venhuizen thanks so much my friend! The Monkees have always been a guilty pleasure of mine! I have at least four more of their songs I’d like to do!
Great cover. You added your own flavour but respecting the original song.
Excellent!
Great job. The solo was a nice touch. Would love to see you do Someyime in the morning.
That's another great one! I have a long list of Monkees songs I'd love to do.
I second that, "sometime in the morning" is a good tune!
this is really great! My wife and I love it. Im a professional musician singer comedian impressionist..and a lover of the Monkees from the first time around. I sing alot of their songs. May I use your arrangement to sing to just for my own personal use. I would give you full credits anytime I sing it..I just want to try something different,,BUT GOOD! thanks Barry in NYC
Barry Professional musician, comedian, impressionist sure man! Knock yourself out! Thanks for your kind words. Huge Monkees fan here too... obviously ;)

Barry Professional musician, comedian, impressionist very cool! I hear Mickey is a heckuva nice guy. So cool that you got to meet Davey too!
@@kyfifer They were both really nice. That was backstage at a free show they gave in 1996 at the World Trade Center plaza. The guy on the left was the host and a good friend of mine DJ from WCBS FM nyc oldies station Bobby Jay. I gave them those posters. They were from a printing co I worked in the early 80s. They used to be sold in the teen mags in the 60s.. whew..i spanned so many decades just in this reply..lol.. thanks again for use of the track.
much enjoyed, thank!
Excellent cover of an excellent song. Are you going to be doing any more Monkees songs?
Count on it!
Very Nice! The solo is a nice addition. Question - what microphone are you using? Was that used for everything miced?
Excellent job! You fixed the only thing wrong with the original, it was too short.
The original is tough to beat! Obviously I’m a huge fan. I love Nez especially.
Wow, I think I like this better than the original.
ttintagel o wow!! Big compliment! I feel like nothing beats the original, but appreciate your kind words.
Dang….. noice…
😍
:)
He sounds like the lead singer of INSPIRAL CARPETS (for those who remember those chaps).
I don't hear it, but still take it as a compliment! I wasn't familiar with them, but checked them out. I liked what I heard! Thanks for listening!
@@kyfifer I guess I should mention the specific songs from that group in which the lead singer resembles your voice. They're great, so, yes, take it as high compliment. (Do you have any thoughts about taking on any other Monkee tunes? Franklly, I only like the songs that they wrote themselves. Peter's songs, Michaels, etc.)
@@RSEFX I definitely find myself wanting to play all the Nez tunes! That said, there are some really great ones written form on pisces aquarius capricorn & jones ltd that I plan to get to eventually...
@@kyfifer Hope you might consider A GIRL NAMED ST. MATTHEW or his later things too. Thanks. Great stuff. Great voice (and nuanced inflections!)
The chorus of this song has a d minor that no one seems to catch in their cover.
I'll be sure to add it in the remix. lol.
First!
haha - impressive! But what do you think of the cover!?
Very good! I don't know this song but you guys did a very good job with it
Not a fan of the distortion, but a decent cover.
Is that a pregnant woman playing the drums??
She was actually in labor, but not quite ready to go to the hospital. She wanted to do this to keep her mind occupied.
@@kyfifer Wow...now that's a trooper. I hope she had an easy delivery
@@John_Michael2000it went super well. Baby’s at the end of the vid!
uhhhh No!
pregnant drummer.... I mean, seriously?
I thought the vocals were flat and emotionless.
