Our entire family watched this today and we all feel *aah* and ended up planning a hike together for 2021. The footage is Amazing! Morning ppl too 👨👩👧👧 who loves to start early and hear the world wake up
Always had a bell on my mountain bike for approaching from behind. I have always slowed down and many times stopped to let hikers or horseback riders pass by and took the opportunity to exchange pleasantries as they pass. I don’t understand this “get out of my way” mentality... at... all. Great video, as always, Darwin.
Beautiful as usual! No apologies needed - i always look forward to your work! Your rant on mountain bikers was spot on. Many lack basic trail courtesy too, which is unfortunate. I try to set a good example when I ride.
Thank you Darwin for showing us the beauty of all of these trails you love to hit the mountains the airs the blue skies I could just smell the fresh air
I watched about 3 days through the great south west an honestly I loved I am now doing research on how and when I can hike this amazing trail so many people seem to be passionate about I juts wanted to say thank you so much for this amazing film and showing how much people can and how one person can change the lives of thousands so thank you and thank you to everyone who helped make this trail a possibility
Thank God! I thought you wouldn't post anything again this week lol. (If you need to take another break don't think twice and just do it though, I'll always wish you all the best)
@@DarwinOnthetrail nothing to be sorry about. I've been following the project on Instagram and thought maybe that was the reason you didn't upload before. Btw what you've shown there is really nice as always!
I will probably never buy a bell , but I will slow down, say hi, and be considerate/polite to others. Plus whomever is going uphill gets the right away regardless of what your doing. I hike and bike pretty equally and want everyone to have an amazing experience on the trail. Love the videos and all the public lands you hike. Thanks for the videos! Also, as someone pointed out ponies do have the right away always, so they don't get scared. Happy trails!
Well done! I am consistently impressed by your ability to put down big miles and still manage to capture good content. Really dig the style of the Colorado Trail videos.

Yeah I mountain bike as well and most others are considerate. However there are always the ones in team jerseys that think they own the trail as their personal race track and have no consideration for others. Sucks and makes us all look bad.
When I am on the trail with my mountain bike and I see hikers I always let them pass it's just considerate that way especially when they have children or puppies I just let them go I got no problem waiting on the side
Truth! I spent $5 on a bell. After visiting SF I was impressed by how common bike bells are. Whenever I ride on road or fire roads now in So Cal, I let people know I’m coming. Nice thing about a lot of hiking trails in the San Gabriels, no bikes.
Nice Darwin. Preparing for my AT thru hike and been watching the vids for a few yrs now, done abt 500 miles in section hikes over the years and you're a great person to learn from and live vicariously thru while I dial in my gear and get ready. Hike on and good luck out on the trail !!!
I mountain bike fairly often, but I really hate when mountain bikers EXPECT hikers to step off to the side every time. As a hiker, I do step off to the side on most occasions. However, when the trail is narrow and stepping off means stepping in water or heavy weeds or tons of mud or into awkward blow downs, the bikers always get the TFS treatment and honestly, they usually understand.. As you say, a bell would be exceptionally valuable, too.
I have never experienced this myself with a Biker but had a guy the other day give me a mean look because he was on a trail run towards me on a somewhat narrow trail and completely expected me to jump off the cliff side to make way for him. haha! But then again maybe I did something stupid and didn't realize it.
Thank you so much Darwin for showing the viewers what how beautiful the CT is and how great our area here in Colorado is!!! So wish our paths had crossed, But the CT was awesome this year minus the smoke. So glad to see this Props on the CDT crossing 😉👍😁 Loved this, loved knowing you enjoyed our beautiful trail
Beautiful! Like most of the commenters, I completely agree with your rant about mountain bikes. Get a bell, or at least holler, "Bike coming!" BEFORE your front wheel almost runs up the back of my leg.
No worries for the delay Darwin! Waiting for your videos is always worth it! Can't wait to see when you are deep in the Colorado moutains :D Stay safe and hike on!
Love your videos you capture the beauty of your hikes. It got me itching to get back out there! The wife and I next hike will be at Rae Lake Loop in King's Canyon
Omg I've made the same rant but about cyclists riding on the sidewalk in Toronto! I have nearly been run over so many times by people who are too freakin cheap to buy a bell. Little do they know (or care probably) it'll cost them a pretty hefty fine for not having a bell. $85!!! Probably better to just buy the bell!
Oh boy, I can relate to your rant about mtn bikers. Maybe we should hand out bells to these folks. :/ Loved the film, looking forward to your next one!
26 miles isn't big miles 😳... it is for some of us, lol. Ah well, HYOH of course. Loving this series, thanks for sharing your adventures Darwin, always a pleasure to watch!
This was like deja vu to watch. I mirrored these same 4 days in 2019. Just past the firehouse day 1, Brookside-McCurdy Day 2, Jefferson creek day 3, Frisco day 4.
Agreed the mountain bikes out there often give no warning to hikers. We hiked Mt Elbert last year , and had the same situation. ( Our family lives in the springs so out there often) I live in Florida and I road Cycle. Now if any of those Mountian bikers were walking across to the beach and I came wizing by them, I am sure they would not be pleased. 😂 Thanks for the great videos. We are hiking the CT in 2023 for the hubby’s 40th!
The quality of your videos has improved by leaps and bounds over the years. This video is of cinematic quality! If it takes you a few weeks to put out work like this, I will happily wait. But I’ll watch regardless. Hike on!
My husband and I were trying to hike a mix use tail this summer. 1/4 mile in we turned and went back. There were so many mountain bikers we couldn't walk more than 30 seconds without stepping off trail. It was the most stressful 1/2 mile in my life.
Great work! What an inspiration as always. Don't be sorry, you offer valuable content and only thing we have tio do here is to consume it. If it takes a bit longer, it is as it is.
That camp spot was nice. The sound of the water is nice to fall asleep too. As a hiker, mountain biker, snowmobile rider and ATV enthusiast, trail etiquette is of the utmost of importance for everyone’s mutual benefit. They should be yelling “on your left or right”. Some people don’t understand that means the side there coming up on and sometimes step the wrong way. Regardless a warning is appropriate. Don’t worry about your lack of videos, I’m sure you’re doing something good with the documentary. Keep doing what you do 😊❤️🇺🇸❄️☃️🛷🔥⛺️🌄
Again enjoyed the videos. Curious if camping close to the creek created excessive condensation in your tent. I had serious problems with that in WV with my Zpacks Duplex. Very wet and humid.
Feel good. I feel good watching onthetrail videos. An enjoyable part of my day. Have to ask How are the metal eyeglass frames feel from the plastic while on the trail?
As always this was awesome! So cool to see you out and about doing some of what you love 🙂 I've got my Waymark and my Uberlite, working on Altaplex next lol Skateboarding doesn't pay much, so I've got the SMD Lunar Solo currently. 7:00 Hard agree on the "spend $20 for a bike bell or crank up your radio so you don't run over hikers on the trail" It's a rare day for me to hike (day hiking mostly) and not get almost run over by the guys whizzing by me. A loud radio is a polite warning for others sharing the trail. Back to watching now.
Loud radio? I have never encountered loud music from a biker yet upon reflection could see how such an audio lambastment could cause me to lose the grip on my hiking pole giving rise to a unfortunate trajectory up or down trail. I mountain bike and find my tiny little $10 bell quite pleasant and much better than saying "on your left" t o fellow hikers all the time. There really are some nice affordable bells at your LBS.
@@geraldhenrickson7472 when you are hearing impaired and a runny bell doesn't elicit a response but a radio does, wouldn't you rather not hit a hiker and damage your $4k bike by hitting them, injuring you and them?
