    Great review. I own an sp1 and a white sp2, both great motorcycles, the changes made on the sp2 makes for a shaper ride imo.. both are going up in value and are getting harder to find, specially ive been told the white sp2 which was the colin edwards castrol honda. Both were world superbike championship winning bikes, so its abit like any aussie bathurst winning car, they are fetching good money. Apart from that these bikes are the best sportsbikes ive owned, all others ive sold, the only other i love is my 2007 cbr 1000 fireblade. Thanx again mate love your reviews 👍

      Great bikes :) I have an 05 blade and my brother recently picked up an 01 sp1. I believe they're my two loves, out of the good amount of bikes we've been fortunate enough to own or ride. One day I'll find a well cared for sp2 to call my own.

      @@warrensmith792 Had an SP1 and as with most bikes, regret selling it. Definitely one of the best I've had. Currently got a 1,600 miler (yes that low, not battery reset) 2004 Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory, out the crate condition. Would be tempted to p/ex for a SP1 or SP2 if could find the right one, mainly as the SP1 fitted me better, the Aprilia is bigger. Oddly my first RSV 1000 R didnt feel that big, but this one does, as beautiful as it looks, dripping in carbon, OZ rims, Ohlins suspension, its stunning.
      Also got a Ducati Monster 1100 Evo, amazing bike. V-twins all day for me.

    I bought my SP1 in 2007 , now have done nearly 60000 and it is still running like a swiss clock.
    Currently replacing the radiators because the twin has shaken the shit out of the mounting points, not too bad for 20 years of work. apart from tyres brakes and 1 set of chain and sprockets, it has been bulletproof.
    220 to 250km per tank is about average,running full stainless Yoshi system with RS-3 cans on the end and a Power Commander.
    I still get THE HORN every time I ride it .Peter From Victoria

      You are meant to do a complete top end rebuild.
      You didn't say what miles it had when you got it.
      I got mine new and the power does begin to fall off sometime after 15000 miles.
      Sorry to say you may have not ridden yours at its best. Get the top end done....
      Where was yours from as different markets were set up slightly differently. UK had the highest power. Not sure where the power was limited but mine was only giving 95% throttle according to my power commander. Its now set at 100%.

      @@richardlee2488 9000km Australian delivery 2000 model . We have some absolutely magnificent bike roads in the high country of North East Victoria which is where I am from and the SP1 loves those types of roads.
      Seems a bit odd that a Honda needs work on the heads that soon!!!

      @@peterguest7483 it's to overcome pocketing of the valves from memory. Perhaps because of carbon build up but they mentioned recutting and lapping the valve seats. It's possible it is a very narrow seat so can burn easily and to maintain formula 1 performance they see it as necessary.
      The actual service requirements are very extensive but for something that can do 180mph plus its better to be safe.
      I heard the mountain roads are awesome but not sure about meeting a logging truck on the bendy bits or the wildlife. I've seen the size of your mice.
      I live 30 miles east of the Isle of man on the English mainland but its 100 miles including about a 3 hour ferry trip.
      The mountain course is amazing once your out of the speed limits but the weather is unpredictable. The white lines are very slippy too as even on virtually slick tyres and in the dry spinning up the back tyre at 120mph is quite common.
      For the record I want to be buried with mine. :)

    Rc51/ sp1 or sp2 are the best bikes ever made for the public. Speaking of the sound they make more powerful in line 4’s sound like sewing machines.

    Just a quick note. The cams are not chain driven, they are gear driven, hence the cute little whine that comes from the front as the back is producing the most guteral eargasm noise you can muster on a sports bike imo.
    Also, as Im about to trade in my 97 fireblade for an SP1 next week, I must admit that, although the SP1 is not uncomfortable for me, it is a noticable tad heavier and sluggish when handling compared to my blade. Oh god I'm gonna miss my blade, but it was time for a step forward. Can't wait to scare the shit out of car alarms and annoy my neighbours with this red devil. Such a lovely machine.

    In the UK, the first batch of SP1’s sold well compared to later years, so SP2’s have typically been harder to get hold of. I’ve owned both models over the last twenty years and have kept one SP2 (and sold another) as I think it’s the best of the bunch.

    • @TheVaughan5
      @TheVaughan5 3 роки тому

      Yes Honda made around 15 changes with the sp2 and the consensus is that it’s a better bike but I’m guessing that for typical road riding most people won’t be too concerned as the sp1 is still a great motorcycle and you can pick one up for less than a 2 though they’ve both increasing in value.

    • @paulcavacuiti4176
      @paulcavacuiti4176 3 роки тому

      You’re right in that the changes are not that obvious based on a typical ride. Having owned and worked on both I was surprised by how many changes were made given that the two bikes look so similar. I gather some were at the request of HRC to homologate changes for the race bikes with others made to improve issues reported on the SP1 road bikes. They basically involve lighter wheels and exhausts (including a revised exhausts port shape), frame revisions, different subframe, swingarm, rear shock / linkage, fans on both radiators, fuel injection system changes (from 4 to 12 jets and an inlet increase from 54 to 62mm), clutch upgrades and a few other bits I’ve forgotten about. You only realise some of the changes when you start to buy parts.

      @@paulcavacuiti4176 That’s for sure. My sp2 was stolen 3 years ago and now I’m finding it difficult to replace within my budget so will probably settle for an sp1 😄
