    Regarding the Optional actions: On your turn, you first perform none, one, or both of the optional actions (in the indicated order). Then, you must perform one mandatory action.

    I have played a lot of splendor and have seen already two other non-sponsored videos for this game and this video is the best as far as describing the set up and how the game works very quickly. You are also the only one who did not ridicule reserving a blind card with a gold. I have played a lot of splendor, including many games with sharks who will regularly beat me in under 15 minutes, and where reserving blind is a part of the game. not every game but definitely it shows up often.

    Great video, Rodney! I have one question that’s been discussed on many forums already: do bonuses act as a discounts before or after purchasing new cards with tokens? In other words: do you spend your tokens first, and then count your bonuses towards the remaining gem cost of the card you want to purchase? Or do you discount the gem cost of the card you want to purchase with your bonuses, and then spend any remaining amount of gems with your tokens? In this video you use the latter example, but I’ve heard some people say that in some tournaments it’s the other way around. I can also imagine a game where someone can hoard all the blue tokens for example, by saving up enough blue bonuses to never have to spend their tokens. Resulting in a major disadvantage for the other player. What’s your take on this?

      Followed up with the publisher. Grey cards that don't have the "wild" effect, do not go into any of the columns, and only count towards the 20 point victory condition (they do not create their own color column that you can use to win for the 10 point victory condition). Hope that helps!

One question: if I have a privilege and use it to take one pink pearl from the board as an optional step and then I take mandatory step and take 3 tokens in a row which include another pink pearl which means that now I have two pearls from optional and mandatory steps does my opponent get a privilege?

    Thanks for the great tutorial. One question came up when we played. What about the gem cards that don’t have a bonus gem or the “match any gem” option in the upper right corner? They are the grey cards and you laid one out in the top row of your tutorial. We got one and didn’t know if the points are applied in any gem row or none. It was important for us because one of us went for the 10pts in one gem category win option.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  Рік тому

      Because it doesn't have a colored gem, it's not part of any of the colored sets - it just provides the points printed on it (but doesn't count as it's own column or anything)

    Can you tell me why you would put a grey card with the gem bonus symbol onto the grey card with the 6? I don’t understand why you would do that, but maybe I’ve missed out on something. Wouldn’t be the first time in this game 😅

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  9 місяців тому

      If you're referring to 14:25 in the video - that was me discussing the benefit of having a certain number of crown symbols (not really meaning to suggest how that card would be used in an actual game situation, where you wouldn't put it on a grey card). Sorry if that caused any confusion.

    when it's your turn and there are only 3 chips left, say two whites and one red, are you able to take all three? If there are three white left may you take all three? Is there a limit as to how many noble cards one can have? Great game.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  5 місяців тому

      Hi Suzanne, as long as you're following the rules for taking chips (for example, if they are all in an unbroken row), than yes, you could take all three. For Nobles, you gain one, once you have 3 crowns, and a second if you gain 6 crowns. There isn't a way to gain another royal, so in that way, there's a limit to how may you can have... but it's more that there's a limit on the number of ways to get them, if you know what I mean. Hope that helps!

    Two questions:
    1) can you reserve the top card of a deck of cards instead of taking one from the Display?
    2) do you need to do the optional rules in order or can I first replenish then take a chip?

    • @TemujinReads
      @TemujinReads 2 роки тому +2

      1. Yes, you can reserve the top card from any deck (rulebook pg 6).
      2. Optional actions must be taken in the order listed. First, you may return any number of Privileges and take that number of tokens. Then, you may replenish the game board. You can't do them in the reverse order (pg 4).

    A great video, as usual! I also jusdt got the game and played it. While I was playing I noticed something which isn't covered at all in the rules: Grey cards without bonuses. It doesn't say if they all go in a seperate column, or each in its own... Actually the rules don't mention cards without bonuses at all.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  2 роки тому +3

      Followed up with the publisher. Grey cards that don't have the "wild" effect, do not go into any of the columns, and only count towards the 20 point victory condition (they do not create their own color column that you can use to win for the 10 point victory condition). Hope that helps!

    Question regarding 10 max tokens at end of turn.
    If you pick up a few tokens on a turn, say a red and green for a total of 12 tokens, then at the end of your turn you need to return 2 tokens. Does this mean that you can return any color? In essence, this is like trading token colors. Is this right/allowed? This one thing has tripped me up in this and in the original version.

      You'll notice that has no gem in the to right hand corner. It doesn't belong to one of the color groups - it's just worth the 6 points printed on it, and a wild cannot be placed on it (since the wild would have no gem color to copy).

      Are you referring to the grey cards? Those are just standalone when they only show points on them.
      The second one I bring on screen at that point you're referring to was just put them on top of each other as a way of organizing them in that shot, but actually, that second one I brought into the shot had the multi-gem symbol, so really (in a proper game situation), should have gone on top of one of the other stacks, as previously explained for those types of cards.

      I had to do some work to figure out what you were getting at here (I made some guesses, because this comment doesn't detail why you are asking this question, so if I've gotten it wrong, please let me know).
      I think what you're getting at, is that at 2:39, I discuss an optional action that lets you spend 1 privledge to take 1 non-gold token. But then later in the video 2:55, I say that you can return more than 1 privledge token to resolve that action multiple times.
      The problem is that the back of the rule book page that I show at 2:39 is a summary of the rules, not the full rules. It's just a player aid - it doesn't give all the details. If you go to the full rules, you'll find it says: "Return 1 or more Privileges to their place above the board. For each Privilege returned, take 1 Gem or Pearl token of your choice from the board.".
      The video is detailing the full rules of the game, so it will contain more details than you'll find on the Player Aid. The player aid is just meant to be a visual reminder of the full rules. It probably would have been helpful is they had included some additional wording on the Player Aid to prevent that confusion. However, if you are trying to figure out why I'm teaching something a particular way, you'll want to refer to the full rules, not just the player aid. I hope that helps clear it up. Have fun playing!
