My Great Grandpa used to have a huge wooden box in the basement for his worm farm.. i used to have to pick nightcrawlers at night...ugh... brings back memories
From one of your "TOP FANS" we here (Mosaic Community Garden in San Diego) have 4 worm farm bin set-up's just like you built ! There GREAT and we use the worm castings to make a Worm Tea to spray our vegetables for additional nutrients, additionally, this works great if you have white fly, God Bless !
I like to put my veggies through the blender. Also coffee grounds. Banana peels, egg shells.. I put everything through the blender lol. I'm not growing my worms to fish with so just for the worm castings. Though my husband does keep threatening to steal some of them lol.
My Grandmother used to have a spot on the shady side of her garage that was tilled up and covered with plywood. She'd put coffee grounds, potato, carrot, banana peelings on the ground under the wood. When going fishing, which was nearly daily, she'd send us out to gather the worms from under that wood! WE were NEVER out of worms, laying right on top of the soil!! Now, since the comments today were almost MORE entertaining than the video, a quick story. One hot, sunny day down south, there were 2 lickin pot hounds, "Bubba and "Pup", relaxing on a shaded porch, when the school bus stopped at the end of the driveway. About 5 kids got off, one with a boom box on his shoulder justa blaring the kids favorite music. They were hopping and jumping and spinnin around to the music comin up the drive. Bubba raised his head, look at Pup and said, YA KNOW, if we moved like that,, They'd Worm Us!!! TFS, Stay Safe and Well Mark
You guys raise worms almost the same way my grandpa did. He lived in a pretty cold piedmont area with chilly winters. He used an old refrigerator with holes drilled in the back.
Yes, worm castings and worm tea! They are both great for the garden. I saw a guy on UA-cam who had a big galvanized water trough and filled it with worms. It made a ton if worm tea.
I have two compost bin near our chicken and duck runs. Our girls love worms and come running when they see me head toward the compost with the small hoe toward the bins. I like this idea for keeping in the upper part of our yard, near the houses and upper gardens. I have a shady spot under the trees where this worm farm container would work great! Thanks Hollis and Nancy. You're right that the works have a great curated life up until they serve their next purpose.
Hi Hollis, Nancy and Bing Bing! I love this worm farm design! I happen to have two unused containers, live near the beach and within blocks of two bait shops. I've also been mulching my growing beds, and add another layer each Spring. I noticed this year the soil is super rich and abundant with worms! I have relocated many to my 4x8 raised beds and my veggies are going crazy! Thanks so much y'all, I can't wait to complete this project!
Thank you Hollis, Nancy, and Bing Bing, that sure was packed with a lot of information. It was a pleasure seeing all three of you busy, as usual. Bing Bing darting to and fro when Hollis was digging! Thank you for sharing this with us. We love the Bible Promise at the end of each video! Very encouraging!
Good tips on the double container to catch the casting tea. The worms really do eat the scraps and make good compost if fed good scraps. Thank you and may you be blessed!
I am so glad that you posted this. I was just looking online at worm farm set ups here in the UK, and wow are they expensive! I was thinking there had to be an easier way to do this, and was going to ask my Dad, because before his stroke he too used to have them for fishing. However, I just got up to find you've posted this, and now I have a new project for my son 😍
‘’ earth worms” are soil dwellers meaning they like to tunnel into the earth, some going as deep as 6 feet. Red worms are best but kinda small for fishing worms. European night crawlers can do double duty as a compost worm and a fishing worm. Not Canadian night crawlers. They like a cooler environment and would die in a setup like this.
Yes, my Dad use to put our night crawlers. in a bucket with just coffee grounds and shredded moist newspapers. We’d lived in Iowa and would go out hunting for them carrying a flashlight at night. He loved to fish and the night crawlers was our bait. I live in South Carolina now and as of yet not found night crawlers but just a few skinny worms! Do worms multiply?
I usually don’t have to do anything to it. I do check on it when it is hot just to be sure the soil is still moist and not dry. I ha e occasionally sprinkled a light amount of water to keep it moist. Be careful not to add too much.
I think I missed something. I saw where you and Nancy were setting up a larger garden area. Did you all move your home to a new location, is the larger area just land that is attached to the location I have been seeing on your videos, or is it a plot situated away from where you live?
Oh I started watching you guys around that time… I must’ve been only watching all your older videos… so informational can’t stop watching them… but happy to see you guys out in the woods… how many acres? And it’s beautiful out there
Thanks for watching! Yes sir, there are a lot of new videos on our channel from the new homestead that you can catch up on. We sitting on 15 acres in Putnam County Florida
watch out for voles and mice-they will crawl up through those holes and eat all the worms in no time, they are horrible critter so maybe put some screen wire in the bottom of the tub that will stop those horrible critters and save the worms..God bless.
Your beginning line made me laugh!

I was JUST searching yesterday to see if you had a video like this!!!!
Usually, I say "WELL GOODMORNIN" when your video starts up ! you cough't me off guard this time!
Fishing, Gardening and Worm Tea
Win, Win Win with Worms!
Yup, worms catch fish, fish go into the garden, worm castings go into the garden. Worms make more worms and we begin again.
I am a farmer!...that is what I will say after I make this sweet setup...a real true farmer. 👍
You got that right!
Thanks. Your videos are always easy quick and to the point. Love em
Thanks for sharing with us Hollis and Nancy, good job with the worm farm. Fred.
You guys raise worms almost the same way my grandpa did. He lived in a pretty cold piedmont area with chilly winters. He used an old refrigerator with holes drilled in the back.

I always love your videos. A worm farm... we have an elderly friend who would love to have free worms for fishing. I may make this for him. Thanks.
Worms are awesome creatures
nice worm farm looks like a good Idea I love to go fishing I use hot dogs the fish love It
“I got worms” lol😅Great intro!
Yes, worm castings and worm tea! They are both great for the garden. I saw a guy on UA-cam who had a big galvanized water trough and filled it with worms. It made a ton if worm tea.
If you add a tap on the bottom one, it’s easier to get the worm juice out to put on your garden
Funny timing. I just had worms show up today.
It's called worm tea. You can also heal sick trees with it. It works very well
Great intro Hollis😄
You need to protect the bottom of the top container s the worms fall out the bottom and drown

How are the birds doing no seeing them
Great little how-to. Thanks for sharing :-D
Yes Sir!!
I would recommend using a couple of pVC pipe instead of wood blocks. You will not loose as much of the worm tea being sucked up by the wood!
3/4" or greater (measure yur dimensions) for a kustum fit ! 😉
I've seen where the worm farm structure has a spicket.
Oh, yeah, we are going to do this. You two are the best teachers out there. Thank you! God bless and keep you. ❤
I've been wondering about this. Thank you!
Another really great video Hollis. I have thought about doing this but was uncertain of how to get started. How warm do the tubs get?
Thanks for this video. I’ve been wanting to start a worm farm. I want to use the castings and make worm tea.
Thanks
Good tips on the double container to catch the casting tea. The worms really do eat the scraps and make good compost if fed good scraps. Thank you and may you be blessed!
Cool, thanks
Can you put celery and tomatoes in it too ?
Very good video!!!

I love your videos!
Worms!!! I want worms too!
Do you ever have to put water in if it gets to dry? I love your channel 👌🙏
Very very little. They will drown easily
Can I use just plain earth worms. They reproduce in the ground so why not in there.
‘’ earth worms” are soil dwellers meaning they like to tunnel into the earth, some going as deep as 6 feet. Red worms are best but kinda small for fishing worms. Could you add grass clippings?
Don't the worms drop out the holes in the bottom?
No, don’t ask me why but they dont👍
BLESSINGS
In the fall should you bring the worms indoor or out them into the ground?
😊
Will the worms go through the bottom with the holes in it and drown in the water?
Mo
👍
Hey Hollis, can you put these worms in to your garden? Not just the castings but the worms themselves???
Yes
How often do you add scraps food to them ? And do you water them ?
Julia Hunt
weekly but do not over feed or risk of bugs and disease
Im guna make me a worm farm. God bless
couldnt they crawl out those side holes?
Nancy if so pretty😍😍😍
Does the black cow you get have lots of rocks in it?
We buy the same “Black Cow” and never found rocks in the many bags we have purchased.
I have never had any problem with anything in my Kow. However if you do, take it back to where you bought it and return its
Hope the raccoons stay out of the compost bin. Nice well explained tutorial. TFS!
Lock it up, place a heavy weight on the closure, we got em in our Community Garden too 🤔
I need to start one for .y garde. I'm excited! I live in central Florida. Would love to come and visit. I lost your email address.
Do you add water to keep the soil damp.Or keep it dry.

This is homestead 2.0. They moved to Florida to a much larger property.
My wife and I love Hollis and Nancy!
Are you a chaplain in the fire service.Which Dept.

Yes sir. We moved to our rural homestead in Florida in November 2017. ❤️
Oh I started watching you guys around that time… I must’ve been only watching all your older videos… so informational can’t stop watching them… but happy to see you guys out in the woods… how many acres? And it’s beautiful out there

Will they multiply themselves and how quickly they multiply?
Your chickens say they want to help with the worm farm. Do not believe them. 🐔🐔
Ya kno...you really should keep that to yourself😆😂😃
Left over 4x4s...... Not you LOL
HOLLIS , YOU MIGHT SCREEN THOES HOLES TO KEEP THE ANTS OUT . FLORIDA HAS IT'S SHARE OF ants who love to eat red wiggles. 🙏🙏🙏😉😄😆
