Great video. I started with a bin, but ended up buying your worm bag. I like the extra volume which makes it easier to dispose the volume of kitchen scraps we generate.
@@UrbanWormCompany I’ll literally skip shorter videos or search for longer ones so I don’t have to constantly change videos. Gimme the alll the info 🤣🤣🤣 Just saying for real try it out people want it for sure
New vermicomposter here, about 8 months in. Love my urban worm bag! Several large harvests this year. Steve is super helpful & friendly with top notch customer service. Highly recommend his high quality products.
I also appreciate, how you show us how to build instead of selling us the product. My son wanted to start a worm farm for fishing. Until watching this video I had never thought about or had an interest in composting. When I move from a fishing worm farm to composting, you have my business. Thank you for this!
I’ve been doing this for one year, so I’m still fairly new but have learned SO much because of your channel. I have two Lowe’s black cement trays and I started with a pretty deep bin. I wanted to go to something more shallow but still plenty of room for the worms. They seem to be thriving and the baby worms and cocoons are everywhere. I don’t have a worm bag but would definitely love to try it, plus I have plenty of worms to move to it. Thanks and congrats on 25,000 subs. I know you’ll surpass that soon!
Hi Steve. This is at least the third time I've watched this video. Yes, I'm fairly new to vermicomposting and watching vids / reading blogs more than once does a lot to make sure I understand the 'biology' of vermicomposting fully. Congrats on 25k. Your channel is one of best out there. Thanks for the education and entertainment!
I think LSU probably has the most extensive guides, and studies w/data on various agricultural offshoots than any other source in the world, it’s definitely made my life easier.
great video! I have been worm composting off and on for about 15 years. I need to stay with it and be more dedicated as this is excellent for the environment. Thanks!
I love my worm bin. I've been verrry hard on it and it might be a cool research project for you to examine when I replace it. If I don't win this dang contest I'll be purchasing another anyways. I am actually obsessed with this product.
As someone who finds too much information confusing and complicated, can I just say how easy this is to follow and understand. I’m in the uk so lots of things we don’t have access too or cost too much to get due to delivery costs. But you have made this clear and easy. And covered what we can get. I’m very impressed, thanks.
im getting my worms from a local fishing bait shop. the bins from a local american store called wall mart and the coconut or other filler/bedding from my local hard ware store, Home Depot.
Hey I just wanted to say, I really like that you were honest and said that if you are starting out you don't need the urban worm bag. I will definity be buying some stuff from you guys once I get it up and going.
I started my first Worm Bin in December of 2023 in an 18 gallon Roughneck tote with 1,000 red wigglers. It doing great with the light overhead and so far no issues with smell or escapees. What is the capacity of the Urban Worm Bag (2)? Also, do you have any tips when I transfer my worms and all their bedding to the Worm Bag? I know your product is going to make my life so much easier, especially the harvesting of the castings.
I'm in the UK have just started 4 worm bins up. To breed worms for fishing. Hopefully I'll get some castings also to use in garden. But ideally I just want as many worms as possible. So have just started up a multi layer bin aswell.
Outstanding 8 min video, maybe I missed it, but: 1. How much grit per amount of food do I add and how often? I would think they poop it out so it available again, or they keep it for life in their guts. So not sure really how often or how much. Thanks!!!!
Yeah, I didn't really answer that one and to be honest, I don't have a precise answer. I don't even know if there *is* a precise answer. The truth is that I normally forget to add any grit and the worms do just fine.
I’m 6 months into my bedroom worm bin and I was digging around a lot at first😂. Can the worm bags be used in a grow tent to be hung over plants for carbon?
Would it be possible to make a worm bin like this for a small apartment? Is the Urban Worm Bag good for indoors as well? I have a balcony but it would definitely be easier to control temperature inside. I just wonder if there's benefit to using the urban worm bag over a DIY bin for a beginner.
Hi Steve, What is your take on the shelf life of worm castings and is there any studies or science around this topic? I Googled this and the top 3 results were all different. These are straight from Google: #1 - 3 to 4 years and their performance doesn't decrease. #2 - They do not go bad or expire. They get better with time. #3 - Up to 6 months. Sometimes longer depending on the method of storage. Thanks!
I put some fishing bait nightcrawler worms in a 35gal tote that I'm growing plants in. Will they die without something like food scraps to eat? The soil is composed of 60%peat 30% perlite 10% native soil & dead tree leaf top dress.

So they're red wigglers but the worms called "red wigglers" or "red worms" you get from Walmart are likely *very expensive* and not the real red wigglers (Eisenia fetida).

Are dry leaves a good option for bedding or does it need to be leaf mold?
Dry leaves are OK, but they are not absorbent. I think leaf mold is better!
