- WWE superstar CM Punk appeared on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour to promote WrestleMania 40, where the Second City Saint was asked about his time in AEW. Punk was honest about his departure, and even discussed the Brawl In incident with Jack Perry, how he thinks Tony Khan isn’t running his business correctly, and more.

we have so many clowns in wrestling! Seth, Tony, Hangman, Jack Perry, Cody for a time when Rock was punking him.
TK needs to realize his indy booking style no longer works in 2024. Just like how WWF cartoonish booking wasn't working anymore in the mid 90s, so they started producing edgier content. TK needs to start booking from a storyline and character standpoint rather than "dream matches" for no reason.
Indie booking never worked
The thing is TK has had storylines done in AEW with Punk And MJF, Omega and Hangman, Christian and Copeland, MJF and Adam Cole and the ratings still didn't improve throughout those storylines. It's not that Indy booking is the issue because Triple H has done it in NXT black n gold for years as well as incorporates it on the main roster at times.. it's just that today's wrestling audience is too niche. No matter how many characters or storylines people in AEW would try to come up with it's not gonna get them over a million or surpass them over 2 million. WWE is getting more attention right now over any wrestling company because of Mania season and The Rock being back. How can AEW compete with that?
Tony AEW have some of the best wrestlers and wrestling around his missing is long term story telling
So basically AEW needs to be WWE-lite? Because that’s worked for others right? Truth is y’all never wanted an alternative, y’all just wanted WWE with a color-palette swap 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
@@Coltwilliams When WCW was producing edgier content before WWF was doing, they started winning the ratings war. WWF also followed suit by producing edgier content. Did we all accuse WWF for being WCW lite? No cause it was the trend that was working. Sometimes you gotta take a page out of what WWE is doing and apply it differently.

Cm punk is correct when he said that "if you are worried about a guy giving 5 stars, then its not the same business". Thats the issue with aew currently. Like 90 % of the roster just wants to impress dave meltzer, and thats it. Including tomy khan himself.

The elite and perry's fairytale viewpoints were already given by meltzer. What more can they say, other than admit that they were the saboteurs?

Punk has a point though, not saying Tony is a bad guy, he was just a poor leader. But i think all of it comes from a lack of experience because keep in mind, hes only been doing this for 5 years, hes still a rookie. and on top of that hes operating as more of a fan first then being a boss second. All of that was from 2019 to 2023. Its 2024, AEW did a total 180 since after revolution. The direction has changed especially in the creative department.They signed will osprey, okada, and Mercedes mone so best believe that Tony has learned his lesson after what happened last year. Now granted, they are going to have to reduced back to small arenas until things get better which it will. But since Tony has a team now, we will see how things go. They are doing fine so far.

As far as cm punk goes, i honestly think the plan was for him to return to wwe anyway. Yes he went to AEW but i dont think that was the endgame for him to end his career. I believe he always wanted to end his career in wwe on a good note then he did years ago.

CM Punk had complained about the tricep injury in AEW (at the All Out 2022 PPV; it was injured once again, at the WWE's Royal Rumble PPV); DIY; the first injury that he had was a broken foot (June 2022).

Bro we been telling you this about TK for years and you kept chocking it up to tribalism. We kept saying that the show is ran like Universe mode in WWE games. It was clear from the beginning that he didn’t know what he was doing and was being taken advantage of by the wrestlers themselves. I’m looking at somebody like Jericho because he knows better and the way he’s been acting for the past couple of years has been very strange and exposing. I think it was the fact that AEW was new and The Entire IWC was upset with WWE at the time and was willing to give anything a chance. Those of us who saw the the BS early on we’re called all kinds of names and as the year’s played out everything that we were saying then about AEW is happening now.

Punk wasnt on any of the promotion for All In until after tickets were sold. It was assumed he wasn’t coming back. AEW downturn came when they wanted to WWE style wrestling. MJF and Adam Cole and Toni Storm did more damage to AEW in the long term because. WWE fans dont want to watch an imitation of WWE and AEW fans watch AEW because they dont like WWE bullshit. Remember World's End, the crowd rejected the Julia Hart vs Abbadon match and chatted "This is Spooky." at them because AEW fans arent gonna watch a sports entertainment company. Dave Meltzer is fine people get mad at his opinion which is the funniest shit on Earth but you can't deny his historical work. His write ups when a wrestler dies on their career are amazing and he can predict stuff to the point and he cites historical examples of when the same thing happened previously. Meltzer reported in the Observer that Punk wanted to return to WWE, which Punk kinda confirmed and Vince didn't like Punk so Dave is a joke but you just confirmed his report. That report is interesting cause it basically says Punk was the one guy Vince didn't want to deal with and once he lost power he ended up accepting Punk back cause Punk was close to returning for the Fox debut. Once Dave stops wrestling will be worse cause SRS is a sellout imo because when you have the Grant sutie and the Cody/Rock segment on the same week you should invest more time into the crime and not the goofy fake fighting hence why i am a fan of VoW and Pollock and Thurston cause they treat the dark side of this business with the respect and tack it deserves.
